Issue 200710Behold the Goodness and the Severity of God
"Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? Shall there be evil in a city, and the Lord hath not done it?" Amos 3:6
The prophet Amos asked, "Shall a trumpet be blown in the city and the people not be afraid?" The trumpet represents the prophetic voice. The prophets have warned and continue to warn the people of this nation to repent and turn back to God. The United States is the great city, Mystery Babylon, the Great Whore in Revelation eighteen. This prophet, and many others, have been writing for many years saying what will happen to this nation if it does not repent.
Amos asked, "Shall there be evil in the city and the Lord hath not done it?" As we witness disaster upon disaster, we wonder why people continue to resist God's warnings of even greater judgments if they continue on the same path. The recent disaster of the bridge collapse in Minneapolis is only one of the disasters that is happening to this nation. And yet a minister emailed this ministry stating God could not be blamed for this bridge collapsing. He stated God is a good God and would never do such a thing. Have we gotten so far away from God's Word to think God has lost all control and influence on planet earth? This was also said of Hurricane Katrina. The prophet Jeremiah declares:
"Behold, a whirlwind of the Lord is gone forth in fury, even a grievous whirlwind: it shall fall grievously upon the head of the wicked." Jeremiah 23:19
Most in the church system have been taught the devil does such things. Why do they think the devil has so much power? There is no power on earth, except God. We know this by the words of Jesus:
"And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto Me in heaven and in earth." Matthew 28:18
If those who have taken the name of Christ truly believe in the one they are supposed to represent, then they would know the evil that comes upon the city is the Lord's doing. Nothing happens on earth that surprises our God, or that He is not in charge of. We must look at the inspired words of Isaiah:
"I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil. I the Lord do all these things." Isaiah 45:7
To reject God's Word is to reject God. Paul warned us and the church at Rome:
"Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in His goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off." Romans 11:22
All the church talks about is the goodness of God. When you mention judgment or severity, they will deny God's power and blame the devil. Again we must look at God's Word. The prophet Amos warns:
"The Lord is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: the Lord hath His way in the whirlwind and in the storm; and the clouds are the dust of His feet." Nahum 1:3
God is slow to anger, but what happens when His anger is stirred and the people take no notice? They neither repent, nor do they recognize it is God trying to get their attention. God warned through the pen of Moses:
"If I whet my glittering sword, and mine hand take hold on judgment; I will render vengeance to Mine enemies, and will reward them that hate Me." Deuteronomy 32:41
We need to know and recognize God truly has His way in the whirlwind and in the storm. He also has His way in the drought that has caused over one million acres to burn in the West. He also has His way in the floods in this nation, Europe, and Asia. He has His way in the new diseases we read about, of which there are no cures for - - - and the old diseases we thought had been eradicated. Yes! He even has His way in corrupt governments and collapsed bridges. The prophet Isaiah also informs us:
"For the Lord of hosts hath purposed, and who shall disannul it? And His hand is stretched out, and who shall turn it back?" Isaiah 14:27
No man can change what God has purposed. We need to consider the words of Amos:
"Surely the Lord will do nothing, but He revealeth His secret unto His servants the prophets." Amos 3:7
We need to read His Word and listen to His informed prophets. We may think things have been rough, but rougher days are ahead.

Our summer in Maine has been beautiful. The mail list is growing and we have more people supporting our efforts. To all who receive our mailings, we pray God's abundant blessings, and we pray you are heeding the words of these vital words for the body.
