Should We Pray For America?

There was a group who wanted to get everyone together on the 11th of November to pray for America. But the question arises, "How and why should we pray for America?" Should we pray for God to bless America? Or should we pray for God to deal with America's gross sin? Let's check a few facts as given us in God's Word.

"For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and His ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil." I Peter 3:12

This nation now has a homosexual agenda. Some states have passed laws to allow homosexuals to teach their perverted ways to our children in the public school systems down to the second grade level. They stand these Sodomite abominations of God before our children, wear the uniform of our armed services, march in our streets, hold public office, and yes, even stand in the pulpits. In ancient times those who practiced these vile deeds were stoned so they would not allure others to their perversion. Should we pray for America, knowing this abomination is present?

Through the justice system, this nation has legally killed over fifty million of our unborn through abortion. Should we pray for America, knowing God declared in the time of Manasseh, He would never forgive the shedding of innocent blood? Hitler only killed six million. Would those who wish to pray for America have prayed for God to bless Hitler in his vile acts? God will never forgive these abominations. Why, then, should we pray for God's blessing on such a nation as this?

This nation legislated to remove prayer from the public school system as the law of the land. Should we pray for God to bless America in spite of this travesty? There have been millions upon millions of children who have been taught it is against this nations' laws to pray, hold Bible studies, or even mention the name of our God in the schools. Should we pray for America, even though she has spoken these abominable things into being? Yet, witchcraft can be taught, and every false religion can have their input. Some schools even provide prayer mats for the Moslem children. Should we pray for America, knowing these facts?

Our founding fathers believed in freedom of religion, and their idea of religion was the worship of the one, true God, Jesus Christ. But this nation has turned completely away from the Godly foundations our founding fathers intended. Should we pray for America who has turned away from their firm foundation?

The Bible tells us, ". . .As it was in the days of Noah. . ." Did Noah pray for the saving of the world when God said He was going to destroy it because of its wickedness, of its violence, and its turning away from God? The Bible tells us Noah prayed for the saving of his household. God's people should do the same, and let God do what He must do because He is a just God, and will fulfill His Word. God emphatically states in His Word:

"If I whet My glittering sword, and Mine hand take hold on judgment: I will render vengeance to Mine enemies, and will reward them that hate Me." Deuteronomy 32:41

What God has promised, He will do. His glittering sword has been whet (sharpened) against this nation. His glittering sword is upon its treasures and her financial collapse is eminent. Should we pray for God to put His sword back in His scabbard? Or should we listen to God's Word? Jeremiah was called the weeping prophet. His heart was broken because of the sins of Israel. But there came a day when God informed Jeremiah three times:

"Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them, neither make intercession to Me: for I will not hear thee." Jeremiah 7:16

"Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up a cry or prayer for them: for I will not hear them in the time that they cry unto Me for their trouble." Jeremiah 11:14

"Then said the Lord unto me, Pray not for this people for their good." Jeremiah 14:11

America's sin is much greater than Israel's ever was. The message God spoke to Jeremiah is for God's people today. If we pray, we must pray in God's will. Should we follow God's Word or should we follow the voice of those who do not want to lose this way of life? If we are going to pray for America, how should we pray? Should we pray for God to save America so she can corrupt another generation of children, kill more young men in a useless war, or so she can shed more innocent blood? Or should our prayers be to let God have His way and bring the needed judgment upon this perverse, godless land?

As always in Christ,
