                                                  Let Us Not Be Ashamed

There are many today we refer to as `Closet Christians'. These show no outward sign of being a Christian except on Sunday morning if we see their car outside the local church. They do not display their Christianity in the work place, in their every day dealings, or in their language. We wander when we look at Paul's revelation to the Hebrews if Christ is ashamed to call them brothers?

"For both He that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause He is not ashamed to call them brethren," Hebrews 2:11.

The one who sanctifieth is Christ, and the ones who are sanctified are Christians. The word sanctified means "to purify internally by the renewing of the soul." In other terms, they have had a change of heart (mind). Those who have had a change in their thinking cannot help but display Christ in their life. We wander Christ is ashamed of those who do not display Christ in their everyday life? We know by Jesus' words, what His feeling will be to those who are ashamed of Him in their every day life.

"For whosoever shall be ashamed of Me and of My words, of Him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when He shall come in His glory, and in His Father's, and of the holy angels," Luke 9:26.

If we are ashamed of Him, and ashamed to express His word to others, then He will be ashamed of us when He returns to receive His own unto Himself.

"And now little children, abide in Him; that, when He shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before Him at His coming," I John 2:28.

Yes, Jesus is coming again for all those who have been cleansed by His refining fire and by His fuller's soap, Malachi 3:2.

Again, we look at the warnings of Jesus:

"Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of Me and of My words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when He cometh in the glory of His Father with the holy angels," Mark 8:38.

When Jesus speaks something once, we need to hear its truth. When He speaks the same admonition twice, we need to pay very close attention. We truly live in an adulterous and sinful generation. Jesus spoke of this as the day God's people need to display His life and His word more than ever. Are you a light in this darkened world? Today there is a price to pay to stand up for what is right. When the world craves the evil and wicked things they continually see on the television, in the smut newspapers, by their sport's stars, and in the movies - - - who is going to show them a different way, if not us?

Paul made His stand for Christ wherever He went:

"For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek," Romans 1:16.

Paul knew the price was high to serve Christ, but in all things he was not ashamed of His walk in the Lord. Paul explained to the Corinthians the price he paid,

"Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes, save one. Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep; In journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren; in weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness," II Corinthians 11:24-27.

Today when God's `Closet Christians' are confronted because of their stand for Christ, many cower and run, afraid of being embarrassed for the Lord. Paul explained to all who are called by His name, what they should do to exemplify the name of Christ:

"Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of truth," II Timothy 2:15.

How do we rightly divide the Word of truth? We can only do this by the anointing of the Holy Spirit. It is only by the anointing of the Holy Spirit that we discern truth from error. If we are led of the Holy Spirit anointing, He will lead us into all truth. As Paul declared to the Hebrews:

"But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for He hath prepared for them a city," Hebrews 11:16.

Those who are not ashamed of their God will be partakers of His Holy City, New Jerusalem. Jesus told His disciples He went before them to prepare a place, and that He would return for all those who are not ashamed, and He will call them His brethren.

Praise the Lord!
