The Foundation of God Standeth Sure

As we witness the calamities and the mess the government has gotten this nation into, it would be easy to get disheartened. But we have God's word and His assurance that no matter what happens, we are in His hands, and He will take care of His own. In his letter to Timothy, Paul gives us assurance:

"Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are His. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity." II Timothy 2:19

God's foundation in the earth is made upof those who have dedicated their lives to serving their God. As Paul declared, "The Lord knoweth them that are His."

All those who name the name of Christ need to depart from iniquity. The word iniquity is the Greek word ADIKIA and means "unrighteousness; violating the law of God and His justice." God has given us many assurances in His Word. Paul wrote to the Hebrews:

"Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee." Hebrews 13:5

Our life is to be without covetousness. This is difficult, because we live in a corrupt, greedy world, and it is hard not to get caught up in the greed of the world. But this is what makes us different. When we become content with the things we have, them peace and contentment become part of our lives. We have God's assurance He will never leave us or forsake us, even in the difficult times we are facing. The Psalmist David gives us God's guarantee:

"For the Lord loveth judgment, and forsaketh not His saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off." Psalm 37:28

God will never forsake His saints. They will be preserved forever. But the wicked will be cut off. A famous man said, "Every tyrant has his day, but they all come to a violent end." God tells us in His Word that judgment is not far off. The prophet Isaiah tells us:

"Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of My righteousness." Isaiah 41:10

God will always be there if we are faithful to His Word and His commandments. We have God's promise. One of the most promising Psalms is Psalm Ninety-One. This was written by an unknown Psalmist:

"He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty." Psalm 91:1

The question most would ask is, "Where is the secret place of the Most High God?" It is in the Father's hand. We know by the words of Jesus:

"My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of My hand. My Father, which gave them Me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of My Father's hand." John 10:27-29

If we are in God's protected place, then nothing can touch us. We will be in His total care:

"I will say of the Lord, He is My refuge and My fortress: My God; in Him will I trust." Psalm 91:2

To remain in God's secret place, we must have our total trust in Him in every aspect of our lives. When our trust is in Him, "Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;" Psalm 91:5. We will not be afraid in the night that is coming. Terrorist attacks will be the least of our worries. The arrow referred to here is probably ICBM Missiles, which have threatened this nation for the last fifty years. But these are no problem to those who are in the secret place of the Most high God. "Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday," Psalm 91:6. We will not fear the pestilence (diseases) or plagues. We can live without fear of disease or destruction. "A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee," Psalm 91:7. If terror attacks come, whether they be nuclear or biological, we have nothing to fear. When the thousands around us are taken in these attacks, God assures those who are His, it will not come night them. "Because thou hast made the Lord, which is My refuge, even the Most high, thy habitation. There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For He shall give His angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways." Psalm 91:9-11. We can live in peace and contentment, without fear, without concern - - - because we know our God, and He knows those who are His. David the Psalmist writes: "I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor His seed begging bread." Psalm 37:25.

As always in Christ
