                                               The Trumpet's Uncertain Sound

Paul wrote to the Corinthians and explained: "For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to battle?" I Corinthians 14:8. Well, the day of the trumpet giving an uncertain sound is over. The trumpet is the prophetic voice. The prophetic voice for years has declared God's coming judgment. There is a battle directly ahead for God's people. And what is that battle? When Jesus was on the Mount of Olives, His disciples came to Him, " . . . privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? And what shall be the sign of Thy coming, and of the end of the world?" Matthew 24:3b

Jesus' disciples asked Him three questions. The first question was, "Tell us when shall these things be? The second question was, "What shall be the sign of Thy coming?" And the third question was, "When shall the end of the world come?" The word world should have been translated age. Jesus proceeded to answer their questions. But first He warned them: "And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you." Matthew 24:4. Men have deceived God's people for years with many uncertain sounds, but Jesus has given us many signs to look for. The first sign is: "For many shall come in My name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many." Matthew 24:5. Today, around the world, there are over fifteen hundred individuals who claim they are the Messiah. These have deceived many of God's people. Then Jesus told us we shall hear of wars and rumors of war. This is all we hear today. There are wars all over the earth, and there are certainly rumors of war everywhere. Another sign is nations rising against nations. Nations are peoples. Today there is constant trouble in families, especially when one or more become Christians, and try to convert the family to Christianity. Then Jesus informed us that kingdom would be against kingdom. This battle is beginning to rage. When the kingdom of satan is threatened by the Kingdom of God, the kingdom of satan begins to rage. We find this true with the Moslems and other false religions. The fourth sign is famines. There are famines all over the world, the United States included. There are pestilences (diseases). New diseases are cropping up all the time. Many have no cures, and some of the diseases we thought were eradicated have resurfaced. Another sign is earthquakes. Earthquakes and aftershocks happen somewhere daily. Many places have hundreds of small quakes daily, all adding up to the big one. But this is not the end. When we see all these things happening, Jesus explains: "All these are the beginning of sorrows." Matthew 24:8 . When we look at all these signs, we ask the question, "How can it get worse than this?"

Jesus continues His revelation of the times to come: "Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for My name's sake." Matthew 24:9. What is next on the agenda for God's people? Jesus declared, "Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you." The word afflicted means "tribulation and persecution." Christians will be hated of all nations for God's sake. "And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another." Matthew 24:10. When the heathen come after the Christian, even those who are closest to us will betray us to the heathen. And many will come to hate those of their own family and friends. "And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many." Matthew 24:11. The false prophets are truly on the rise, and they are gathering many followers. "And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold." Matthew 24:12. One of the greatest loves there is, is the mother's love for her child. But we hear of mothers doing terrible things to their children. And the love children have for their parents has waxed cold. The love the husband had for his wife has waxed cold, and the same is true for the wife.

As Paul related, "If the trumpet give an uncertain sound, how are people going to prepare for the battle ahead of them?" The message for today is, "Prepare! Prepare! Prepare! First we must be prepared Spiritually. We need to know God's Word as to what we are to expect. We need to be prayed up so we can hear God's voice. We are also to be prepared physically. All who can hear with their ears and see with their eyes need to know what is coming upon this nation and the world. We need to know the economy is going to fail. We can expect terror attacks, marshal law, and chaos. The stores will have no food. In minutes every modern convenience will fail. Each individual will be alone, to survive with their family. We need to ask ourselves, "Have we prepared for these coming events?" If not, why not? We must take heed to the Bible and God's prophetic voice. Jesus warned: "But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved." Matthew 24:13. I pray God will put it in your heart to get prepared, both spiritually and physically, for the days ahead.
