                                                          A  Day of Darkness

The prophet Joel explains the day in which we live:

"A day of darkness and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness, as the morning spread upon the mountains: a great people and a strong; there hath not been ever the like, neither shall be any more after it, even to the years of many generations." Joel 2:2

Today is truly a day of darkness and gloominess for those who are losing their jobs, their homes, and their hope. All we hear today is "Bail Out! Bail Out! Bail Out! The government bailed out the banks. Yet they are still failing by the dozens. The government bailed out the auto industry. Yet two of the three giant car manufacturers have, or are going, to file for bankruptcy. Chrysler is closing one-fourth of their car dealerships. What will these dealers do with their Chrysler inventory? The government bailed out some insurance companies. Yet, now they need more bail out money. The newspapers are closing one after another. They, too, are crying, "Bail Out!" Half of the states are broke, and crying, "Bail Out!" There is talk among some states about seceding from the United States of America. Some areas are printing their own money, no longer using the green back dollar.

When we hear the phrase `bail out' we think of those in a boat frantically bailing out water to keep the boat afloat. But when they bail out the boat, they are only adding to that which will eventually swamp their boat. This nation should learn what every household knows. You cannot spend or borrow your way out of debt. You cannot live high until your credit cards are maxed out, and you cannot borrow from the banks or use local credit. Because there comes a point when you can no longer use your credit cards. And the banks will have to say, `No more." And local creditors will say, `Sorry Charlie!' Then what? This is where this nation has come to. They are wearing out the printing presses, trying to keep up with their bail out obligations. But the foreign nations are about to say, `Sorry, Uncle Sam!' - - - and then what? The government scum in Washington has no answers - - - and by the way, scum is what you scrape from the bottom of the barrel.

But, all is not lost. God is still in control of planet earth. And He has a people. Joel describes this people as ". . . the morning spread upon the mountain . . ." The morning describes a new day, a new hope, a new way. Joel calls this people a great and strong people. There has never been a people like this on the earth, and never will be again for many generations. This is God's overcoming army. These are not wringing their hands, nor are they looking to government to bail them out. They are looking to God for their supply. These are preparing now for the coming day of adversity. These have wisely removed their money and investments from the failed economy. These have prepared instead to have a supply of food, water, and necessary needs for survival. These no longer put their trust in their investments, but have invested in the Kingdom. These do not trust their future to those who have squandered their future and the future of their children. It is time to get your finances in your own hands. This is wisdom. Yes, the bail out is about to swamp this nation's boat. Be wise and get out of anything the government controls, or you will go down with the ship, because the captain of the ship does not know what he is doing, or where he is going. You may feel like the rats who flee the drowning ship. But just remember, the rats survive. Joel continues to give instruction to the people of God:

"Therefore also now, saith the Lord, turn ye even to Me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning: and rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the Lord your God: for He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth Him of the evil." Joel 2:12-13

God is our only hope. We need to turn to Him with our whole heart, with weeping, and with mourning. We serve a great and wonderful God who cares for His people. Will you not heed His voice?
