The Day of Great Whoredoms
Take heed what the prophet Hosea foretells of the day in which we live:
"The beginning of the word of the Lord by Hosea. And the Lord said to Hosea, Go, take unto thee a wife of whoredoms and children of whoredoms: for the land hath committed great whoredom, departing from the Lord." Hosea 1:2
Today the land (the world and even some of God's people) have committed great whoredoms. Sadly to say, we live in a society where marriages don't last. People marry multiple times. Many times they just move in with someone so they don't have to go through the divorce - - - or maybe they can get more money from the government if they stay single.
Many today have no morals to do what is right. It has become normal for people to have slept with multiple partners of the opposite and/or same sex. People don't look to God for their needs anymore. They depend upon themselves or the government. They have departed from the Lord.
"And the Lord said unto him, Call his name Jezreel, for yet a little while, and I will avenge the blood of Jezreel upon the house of Jehu, and will cause to cease the kingdom of the house of Israel. And it shall come to pass at that day, that I will break the bow of Israel in the valley of Jezreel." Hosea 1:4-5
The name Jezreel means "God sows or scatters." Jezreel's father, Hosea predicted their would be a great slaughter in his son's day. Listen to Jeremiah's warnings to the land and its inhabitants of the coming day of God's wrath:
"Who is the wise man, that may understand this? and who is he to whom the mouth of the LORD hath spoken, that he may declare it, for what the land perisheth and is burned up like a wilderness, that none passeth through?
Why is God's wrath falling upon the land today?
"And the LORD saith, Because they have forsaken my law which I set before them, and have not obeyed my voice, neither walked therein; but have walked after the imagination of their own heart, and after Baalim, which their fathers taught them: therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel;
Behold, I will feed them, even this people, with wormwood, and give them water of gall to drink. I will scatter them also among the heathen, whom neither they nor their fathers have known: and I will send a sword after them, till I have consumed them." Jeremiah 9:12-16
Hosea continues God's pronouncement upon the whole house of Israel:
"And she conceived again, and bare a daughter. And God said unto him, Call her name Loruhamah: for I will no more have mercy upon the house of Israel; but I will utterly take them away." Hosea 1:6
The name Loruhamah in verse 6 means "no mercy, not pitied." This is a type of Jehovah rejecting His people. Beloved, we need to know that God is through having mercy upon this nation, the world, and the apostate church system.
We have seen numerous disaster's around the world as warning signs of God's coming judgment, but not very many people are heeding the signs. Every day we see God's mercy being removed more and more, and His hand of judgment being put on this nation and on this world. We see tsunamis, hurricanes, floods - - and even at this hour we are seeing many devastating tornados.
But praise the Lord, because we know God is in control. It is about time we wake up from our Adam sleep and begin to praise the Lord. Hosea then gives the following hope:
"But I will have mercy upon the house of Judah, and will save them by the Lord their God, and will not save them by bow, nor by sword, nor by battle, by horses, nor by horsemen." Hosea 1:7
The name Judah means "praise, giving of thanks, and to confess". We must become a people of Praise. We should be thankful for all His supply, His love, and His mercy on us. The time is short, we need to confess our sins, that we may be that house of Judah. If we confess our sins, and turn from our unrighteous ways, then God will, indeed, have mercy upon us. This is the promise of God. God is desiring a people today who believe that He is a rewarder of those that diligently seek Him. We need to begin to seek Him with our whole heart and soul.
Hosea tells us that God will save us - - - but not with bow, nor by sword, nor by battle, by horses, nor by horsemen. We must become an overcoming people who trust completely on the Lord - - - and not on guns and swords to protect us in the days ahead. Yes, praise the Lord, there are true Israelites. These are those who are distinguished for piety (who act reverently before God) and retain virtue (moral goodness). But for the most part, this nation, the world, and even those in the church system today no longer act reverently before God, and few have moral goodness.
Many today use their busy, hectic, everyday lives as an excuse for not drawing near to God, reading His Word, and quietly searching for His direction. We must take time for God. If we are faithful to do these things, then He will bless our time for everything else we need to do. Robert Bixler, Pcwoodworking@aol.com, New Foundations Ministries
