Consider Your Ways

“Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, This people say, The time is not come, the time that the LORD'S house should be built. Then came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet, saying, Is it time for you, O ye, to dwell in your cieled houses, and this house lie waste?” Haggai 1:2-4

Today we live in a time where man is more desirous of himself, than he is of God. You might say, “Yes, that is the worldly, heathen man. But that is just an easy cop out, becaue God’s Word was not written for the heathen, but for His people; so we may grow and change into His image and likeness.  Haggai asks us in verse 4: “Is it time for you, O ye, to dwell in your cieled houses, and this house lie waste?   What house is Haggai talking about?  This house is our Spiritual house.  It is time to concentrate on building God’s Spiritual house in us. Haggai says in verse 5: “ Now therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways.”

It is time for each of us to consider our ways.  We must take a good look in the mirror and see what changes we need to make to build our Spiritual house in God. Haggai goes on to tell us: “Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes. Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways.” Haggai 1:6-7

Does it seem like no matter how hard you try, that you can never get ahead. Does it always seem like something or someone else is always getting your money and your time?  If we are experiencing these things, we need to realize there is no blessing in our lives. When there is no blessing, we need to consider our ways. Haggai begins to tell us the solution: “Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith the LORD,”  Haggai 1:8.  We need to go up to the mountain of the Lord, the high place in God, to get our Spiritual materials to build His house in us, that He might be glorified.

Haggai then gives us the following warning:  “ Ye looked for much, and, lo, it came to little; and when ye brought it home, I did blow upon it.  Why? saith the LORD of hosts. Because of mine house that is waste, and ye run every man unto his own house. Therefore the heaven over you is stayed from dew, and the earth is stayed from her fruit. And I called for a drought upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the corn, and upon the new wine, and upon the oil, and upon that which the ground bringeth forth, and upon men, and upon cattle, and upon all the labour of the hands,” Haggai 1:9-11.  God is about to blow upon our house.  God has been giving warning after warning with today’s weather. God’s mighty winds are coming in gale-like forces in this hour with tornadoes and hurricanes - - - not to mention earthquakes, flooding, drought, volcanic eruptions, and devastating tsunamis. Yet man will not open his eyes and consider his ways.  Many say God would not bring these disasters. Those have to come from satan.  But we need to realize that God is the Master of the Wind, and that satan has no authority in our lives. Remember Job:  “Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought?  Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land,” Job 1:9-10.  God placed a hedge about Job, and satan had no authority until God gave it to him. So God is in control, and His warnings are getting stronger and louder. It is high time to consider our ways.

“And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.” Romans 13:11-12

Over the years man has let himself be lulled to sleep with the sins of the world - - - until now everyone just accepts their sins as a way of life, instead of making the necessary changes to become overcomers.  Paul is giving us a very stiff warning. We don’t have much time. God’s judgment hand is about to be poured out on His church and the world.

“For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?” I Peter 4:17

Beloved there is hope in God. “Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel? For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord GOD: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye,” Ezekiel 18:31-32.  God is wanting us to cast away our transgressions. We need to pray to the Holy Spirit to cleanse us and put a new spirit in us.  God is looking for a sanctified, set apart people who will go all the way for Him - - - not those who must endure the wrath. Paul tells us: “. . .be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” Romans 12:2.

“Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.” Matthew 25:13

I encourage everyone to look inward and “Consider Your Ways.” May God bless as you press toward the mark of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
