Upon Whom Are You Putting Your Trust?
“Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the LORD!  Yet he also is wise, and will bring evil, and will not call back His words: but will arise against the house of the evildoers, and against the help of them that work iniquity.  Now the Egyptians are men, and not God; and their horses flesh, and not spirit. When the LORD shall stretch out his hand, both he that helpeth shall fall, and he that is holpen shall fall down, and they all shall fail together.” Isaiah 31:1-3

Most people today are not putting their trust in God. Instead, they are looking to Egypt which represents the world. When one trusts in Egypt they are trusting in false trusts, and in the refuge of man.  There are many instances in God’s Word which talk about going down to Egypt. We need to, instead, go up to the high places in God.

When things got tough for the children of Israel, they wanted to go back to Egypt, even though they were greatly oppressed in Egypt.  This is so much like God’s people today who cannot fully put their trust in what God is doing in their lives.  Instead, many desire to go back to being enslaved by the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life.  They desire to go back to the ways of ‘no accountability’, just do as your told, and follow the multitudes. Isaiah also gives warning:

“Woe to the rebellious children, saith the LORD, that take counsel, but not of Me; and that cover with a covering, but not of My spirit, that they may add sin to sin:  That walk to go down into Egypt, and have not asked at My mouth; to strengthen themselves in the strength of Pharaoh, and to trust in the shadow of Egypt! Therefore shall the strength of Pharaoh be your shame, and the trust in the shadow of Egypt your confusion. For the Egyptians shall help in vain, and to no purpose: therefore have I cried concerning this, Their strength is to sit still.” Isaiah 30:1 -3, & verse 7

Rebellious children are those who call themselves Christians, but put their trust in man, the armor of flesh, and the government, instead of putting their trust in God. These have covered themselves with a fleshly covering instead of God’s Holy Spirit covering. Jeremiah also warns:

“Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.” Jeremiah 17:5

Instead, we need to put our total trust and hope in God:

“Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is.” Jeremiah 17:7

If we put our trust and hope in God, not living in fear or unbelief, then God’s Spiritual blessing will be upon us. He will then give us His Spiritual understanding of His Word.

“Hath a nation changed their gods, which are yet no gods? But My people have changed their glory for that which doth not profit.  Be astonished, O ye heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid, be ye very desolate, saith the LORD. For My people have committed two evils; they have forsaken Me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.” Jeremiah 2:11 - 13

Many of God’s people, today, have committed two evils: they have forsaken (departed, abandoned, neglected) God’s Word; and hewn them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.  God’s Word is life-giving, living water. Yet many have forsaken God’s Word and are trusting in broken cisterns which can hold no water.  When we trust in cisterns we have hewn out, they will surely break, and will be unable to hold the water of God’s Word. If we cannot hold the water of God’s Word, then we cannot grow in God’s ways and produce fruit in our lives.  David makes the proclamation:

“Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God.” Psalm 20:7

People of God, leave the chariots and horses of Egypt. Begin to put your total trust and hope in the name of the Lord your God.  We encourage you to go up to the high places in God.  Never look back!  Begin to cry out as Paul:

“Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:13 - 14

Our prayer here at New Foundations Ministries, is that God continue to mold us and shape us into His image and likeness so that we may become useful vessels in the coming day of His Kingdom. May God bless and keep you in Christ.  Robert Bixler
