Sound Forth The Trumpet In The Day of Battle

In Psalm 78:7-10 we read: “That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep His commandments. And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation. A generation that sets not their heart aright. And whose spirit was not steadfast with God.  The children of Ephraim being armed, and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle. They kept not the covenant of God, and refused to walk in His law.”

Verse 8 talks about a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation that sets not their heart aright, and whose spirit is not steadfast with God.  All through history, God has seen the stubbornness and rebellious hearts in His people.  In the book of Proverbs we find:

“There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness.”  Proverbs 30:12

We need to let God look deeply into our soul, and let Him proclaim us pure in His eyes.  In the book of Ephesians, Paul tells us:

“That He might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the Word. That He might present it to Himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing, but that it should be holy and without blemish.”  Ephesians 5:26-27

To whom is God going to present to Himself?  It will only be those that are washed from their filthiness.  These will be the ones whom He will call His glorious church. No man, no member, no pastor, no prophet, no teacher, no individual is going to present himself into God’s presence unless it is glorious. Beloved, it is only those who have been washed from all unrighteousness who will enter into the joy of the Lord. We need to set our hearts aright, we need to let our spirit stay steadfast with God, and we need to let the washing of the Word have an affect in our hearts.  We need to read His Word, Study His Word, and do His Word with all our heart.

Verse 9 of Psalm 78, tells us that the children of Ephraim being armed, and carrying bows turned back in the day of battle. Matthew tells us:

“Many will say to Me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Thy name? And in Thy name have cast out devils? And in Thy name done many wonderful works?  Matthew 7:22.

We may be armed and carrying bows, but what do we do when we face our battles?  There is a big battle in the near future, and it is called the Day of Wrath in the Bible. But we face many battles everyday in our walk, and that battle is dealing with the old man nature that is in us.  Matthew continues:

“And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you. Depart from Me, ye that work iniquity.”  Matthew 7:23

These are the one’s that call Him, Lord, Lord. They are armed and carrying bows, but they have never dealt with the iniquities in their lives.

We are to be sounding forth the certain trumpet.

“For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound who shall prepare himself to the battle?”  I Corinthians 14:8

What uncertain trumpet sounds are going forth today?  A few of these are the rapture teaching, the teaching of once saved, always saved, the ultimate reconciliation teaching, the prosperity message, and many more.

We encourage you to come out from among this stubborn and rebellious generation.  It is time to prepare for the battle by making the needed changes in your life.

“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nations, a peculiar people, that ye should shew forth the praises of Him who hath called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.”  I Peter 2:9

Come out of the darkness into God’s marvelous light.  His Word is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path.
