Prepare to Become a Living Sacrifice

“Thou shalt daily prepare a burnt offering unto the LORD of a lamb of the first year without blemish: thou shalt prepare it every morning.  And thou shalt prepare a meat offering for it every morning, the sixth part of an ephah, and the third part of an hin of oil, to temper with the fine flour; a meat offering continually by a perpetual ordinance unto the LORD.”   Ezekiel 46:13 - 14

Just as they prepared a burnt offering daily, we must prepare an offering unto the Lord every day.  You may ask, “What kind of offering do I need to offer?”  We must give of ourselves for an offering unto the Lord, not one or twice a week, but daily.

Verse 13 of Ezekiel 46 tells us, “. . . Thou shalt prepare it every morning. . .” What is the preparation we must make every day when we offer ourselves before the Lord?  Paul tells us that our lives are to be a living sacrifice:

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.” Romans 12:1

What preparations do we need to make to become an acceptable, living sacrifice to our God?
Paul again tells us how this is accomplished in our walk

“That He might present it to Himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.” Ephesians 5:27

We need to come before the Lord without spot, wrinkle, or blemish. To do this we must come before the Lord without the things of the flesh on our minds - - - like what we have to do today - - - or where we have to go - - - or what does this person think about me - - - or our jobs - - - our kids - - - our car - - - a television program, etc., etc., etc. So many things fill our minds and take away from our time with the Lord.  Our time with God is precious. We need to lay all these spots, wrinkles, and blemishes on God’s altar so that we can become His living sacrifice.  This is a daily preparation in our walk with God.

Verse 14 of Ezekiel 46 tells us “. . . thou shalt prepare a meat offering every morning. . .”  We must spend time in the meat of the Word.

Verse 14 also tells us “ . . . the third part of an hin of oil . . .”.  We must also have the Holy Spirit anointing in our lives on a daily basis.  Why is this so important?  It is only with the Holy Spirit anointing that we can have Spiritual understanding of His Word.  This offering is to be continually offered up before the Lord, not only each morning, but all through our day, every day. We are shown this acceptable offering by Moses:

“And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,  Command the children of Israel, and say unto them, My offering, and my bread for my sacrifices made by fire, for a sweet savour unto me, shall ye observe to offer unto me in their due season.  And thou shalt say unto them, This is the offering made by fire which ye shall offer unto the LORD; two lambs of the first year without spot day by day, for a continual burnt offering. {day by day} The one lamb shalt thou offer in the morning, and the other lamb shalt thou offer at even; {at even} And a tenth part of an ephah of flour for a meat offering, mingled with the fourth part of an hin of beaten oil. It is a continual burnt offering, which was ordained in mount Sinai for a sweet savour, a sacrifice made by fire unto the LORD.” Numbers 28:1 - 6

These Scriptures tell us that two lambs were offered, one in the morning, and one in the evening.  We are called the sheep of God’s pasture. We need to sacrifice of ourselves, our time, our giving, our friendship, our praise, and our worship to His glory. Amen!

As Paul, we need to ask ourselves:

“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long;  we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.  Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us.   For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:35 - 39

What is it that can separate us from the love of Christ?  Verse 36 says, “ . . . we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter . . .”.  We must die to the old, fleshly man nature.  But this is going to take tribulations, distress, persecutions, famine, nakedness, peril, and the sword to strengthen us to become overcomers.  If we do these things, then we can be more than conquerors through Christ Jesus.

We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair;  Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body. For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus’ sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh. So then death worketh in us, but life in you.” II Corinthians 4:8 - 12

Paul tells us we are always delivered unto death for Jesus’ sake. Each day we must die to self for Jesus sake, so that we may be made alive in Him. God is looking for a people willing to die to self daily, and fill themselves with His Word, so that we may bring forth the fruits of the Spirit in our lives, and may inherit eternal life.

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.” John 12:24-25

“Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God.  Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.” Revelation 3:2-3

We have not yet come to perfection in our lives.  There is always a going on in God.  We must keep our Spiritual eyes open, watching and praying that we are not caught unawares.  Time is near, and we must prepare ourselves to become a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto God without blemish.

May the peace of God be with you in the days ahead.     Robert Bixler
