It Is Time To Awake Out Of Our Adam Sleep!
“And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;” Genesis 2:21
God caused a deep sleep to come upon Adam, and he slept. But the Word does not declare God ever woke Adam up from this sleep. God’s creation man has been in this deep sleep ever since. Down through the centuries few men have aroused out of their deep sleep to do mighty works for God. Even when one awakes out of sleep, we still have what is called ‘sleep in our eyes’. So our vision is blurred, and we cannot see clearly. Another thing that goes to sleep is our hearing, and only a sharp noise will disturb this sleep. Jesus explained this condition man has fallen into:
“For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.” Matthew 13:15
Paul addressed this Adam sleep in most of his letters. To the Corinthians, Paul declared:
“When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.” I Corinthians 13:11-12
As Paul stated, now mankind only sees through a glass darkly. The glass Paul is speaking of is a mirror. When we look in the mirror, everything is reversed. We never really see ourselves as others see us or as God sees us. This is because our eyes are still clouded by our Adam sleep. But when our eyes clear, then we will see God face to face. As Paul related, we now only know in part - - - or just a portion of the total truth God has for us.
In Matthew, Chapter 25, ten virgins went forth to meet the bridegroom. “While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.” Matthew 25:5
Notice all ten virgins were asleep, and that they all had oil in their lamps. But the five foolish virgins remained in their Adam sleep. Those who are asleep are dull of hearing. Their ears and eyes are closed to everything around them. They have not heeded all the warning signs they have been given and they continue to sleep on in their false hope and false security.
In contrast, the five wise virgins are those who are awakening out of their Adam sleep. These are those who have prepared themselves with the extra vessel of the oil of preparedness.
God has promised as we awake out of our sleep, He will give us light. The word light means “Christ will pour upon you the divine truth as the sun gives light to men aroused from sleep.” The writer of Hebrews exhorts us:
“See that ye refuse not Him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from Him that speaketh from heaven: Whose voice then shook the earth: but now He hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven.” Hebrews 12:25-26
There is a violent shaking coming. God is going to shake our earth realm (our physical realm), and He is going to shake our heavenly realm, (our spiritual realm). So the result will be
“. . . those things which cannot be shaken may remain.” Hebrews 12:27b
God is going to violently shake our whole existence, trying to awaken His people out of their Adam sleep state.
Paul, by the anointing of the Holy Spirit, promised God would wake the true church from their dead condition, and give them light.
“While he yet spake, there cometh one from the ruler of the synagogue’s house, saying to him, Thy daughter is dead; trouble not the Master. But when Jesus heard it, He answered him, saying, Fear not: believe only, and she shall be made whole. And when He came into the house, He suffered no man to go in, save Peter, and James, and John, and the father and the mother of the maiden. And all wept, and bewailed her: but He said, Weep not: she is not dead, but sleepeth. And He put them all out and took her by the hand, and called, saying, Maid arise.” Luke 8:49 - 52 & v54
Notice, only those who were mature were allowed to remain in the room; Peter, James, John, and the father and mother - - - those who were weeping and wailing for the daughter (the church). Jesus declared, “She is not dead, but only sleepeth.”
Jesus has many fathers and mothers who have left all to follow Him into the Kingdom. To these He says, “You alone may remain to see My glory and My miracle.” To these, He will show them the secret things from the beginning of time.
Those who remain in their Adam sleep have no idea what God has planned for those who will follow Him with their whole heart. Paul quoted the Old Testament when he disclosed to the Corinthians:
“But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him.” I Corinthians 2:9
Those whose eyes are filled with sleep cannot see, and those who have not awakened out of their sleep state have not heard, nor can their clouded minds imagine the things God has planned for those who love Him more than the things of this life. Paul explains this to the church at Corinth:
“But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.” II Corinthians 3:18
Again, we are looking into a glass (mirror). The mirror we are looking into is the Word of God, and what is reflecting back to us is the glory of God that we are to become. The more the glory of God is reflected back to us, the more we are changed into the image we see of the Father and the Son in the Word. The more we read, and God begins to wipe the sleep from our eyes, the more we are changed into the image we see in the Word, and we go from glory to glory, and we are gradually changed into His image by the Spirit of God. The Psalmist David understood this:
“As for me, I will behold Thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with Thy likeness.” Psalm 17:15
David also realized man was in his sleep state. David recognized when man awakes, he will be in the likeness of God. What God has promised throughout His Word is that He is going to bring us back to our created place in Him, praise the Lord! When we come into this place, He will return us to His paradise here on earth. The prophet Isaiah gives us insight as to the days ahead:
“Arise, shine: for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee.” Isaiah 60:1
We hear from people across the earth, that there is a Spiritual awakening in God’s people, to those who are being shaken awake by the completion of God’s Word in their lives. As some are being Spiritually awakened, most of the church continues in their Adam sleep in their comfortable pews, and their apathetic way of life. The prophet Isaiah spoke of those who will be awakened from their Adam sleep:
“Awake! Awake! Put on thy strength, O Zion; Put on thy beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city: for henceforth there shall no more come into thee the uncircumcised and the unclean. Shake thy self from the dust arise, and sit down, O Jerusalem: loose thyself from the bands of thy neck, O captive daughter of Zion.” Isaiah 52:1-2
God is about to bring a shaking upon the earth, of which no man can imagine to awake those who sleep in the dust of the earth. The unprepared virgins who remain asleep in their earthly existence will not enter into the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. Yes, God is truly bringing a shaking into His body today, trying to awaken His virgins out of their Adam sleep. God’s anointed voice in the earth today continues to cry, “Prepare ye the way of the Lord in your life.” Unfortunately many simply fold their hands and return to their slumber.
“Wherefore He saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall thee light.” Ephesians 5:14
