Know the truth, and the truth will set you free. The anti-christ spirit is not some individual man who will come upon the scene in the end of days. The anti-christ spirit is in the hearts of all men who reject Christ.

Does the Bible teach there is one man who is the great antichrist?

Who is the man of sin?

Who is the son of perdition?

As God's people we need to seek for the answers to these questions.

The word antichrist only appears four times in the Bible - - - three times in First John and once in Second John. The word antichrist is made up of two Greek words: anti and christ. The prefix anti means "adversary or opponent." This prefix also means "to deny the existence of Christ as the true God." Two other names given to the antichrist are the man of sin and the son of perdition. John declares:

"Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time" I John 2:18.

John warns us that as we draw near the end of the age, this antichrist spirit will become very prevalent in the world. John continues:

"Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son" I John 2:22.

This antichrist spirit denies the existence of the one true God.

"And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world" I John 4:3.

This antchrist spirit denies that Jesus has come into the world to forgive mankind their sins. John goes on to describe this antichrist spirit:

"For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist, II John 1:7.

Paul also writes:

"Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;" II Thessalonians 2:3.

Paul proclaimed that before the day of Christ comes, there will be a great apostasy, a great falling away from the things of God. We certainly see this today, not only in the world, but in the church also. Paul continues,

"Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God" II Thessalonians 2:4.

God is revealing the antichrist spirit, the man of sin which is resident in each of us. If we are to deal with the man of sin, we must first recognize who he is. As stated before, the word anti means "against". The man of sin which dwells in each of us is against any changes Christ desires to bring in our life.

As Paul revealed, "The man of sin opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or is worshiped as God". The word worshiped means "that which is religiously honored". Whatever we honor has taken preeminence in our life, and has become our god. We either honor the dictates of the man of sin, the old Adam nature, or we honor the desires and directions of the Holy Spirit anointing. As Paul proclaimed to the church at Rome:

"Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?" Romans 6:16

Paul makes it very clear, if we serve the man of sin in our life we can expect death. Where is the enemy sitting? That man of sin is sitting in our temple, the place that is to be reserved for God alone. Yet many have allowed the antichrist spirit residence in their minds, showing that he is their god. The word sitteth means "to have a fixed place." To the Corinthians, Paul declares:

"What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? I Corinthians 6:19.

Are you allowing the antichrist spirit, the man of sin to take up residence in your temple? Have you given him access  - - -or given him a fixed place in your mind?

Remember, beloved, it is only the overcomers who are going to rule and reign in God's Kingdom. Come out from among the kingdoms of men.

"To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with Me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with My Father in His throne." Revelation 3:21

The only way this man of sin can be overcome is by the overcoming process of overcoming the old, Adam nature we were all born with. Will ye not turn from this antichrist spirit and return the King to His throne? [see "Return the King to His Throne" by George Kirkpatrick]

Paul proclaimed before the day of Christ comes, a great apostasy is going to come whereby many will fall away from the ways and things of God. The day of Christ is when the anti-christ, also called the man of sin is going to be revealed. This is going to be a time when the whole world will seem to fall away from the faith once proclaimed by our fathers.

How has this happened in the last hundred years? We need to realize that the antichrist spirit becomes more and more creative as time goes by, adapting itself to what is accepted and tolerated, then pushing it just a little further to yet another level of acceptance and tolerance, here a little, there a little, until all of a sudden, one no longer recognizes where they came from, or what they have believed! Paul understood how this can happen:

"Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things? And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time." II Thessalonians 2:5-6

Paul reminded the Thessalonians he had told them how the antichrist, the man of sin, or the old sin nature was hindering their walk in God. Paul related, "Now ye know what withholdeth". The word withholdeth means "to hinder the course of progress". How does the enemy hinder our progress in the ways of God? Again I emphatically state here again that we must know our enemy. We need to be aware of his tactics, knowing that this antichrist spirit adapts itself to what is accepted and tolerated, then pushes it just a little further to yet another level of acceptance and tolerance, here a little, there a little.

How does the enemy come in? He is very subtle. This happens so gradually, many do not recognize their falling away. An example of this is the "Prosperity Message". Today God's people believe if they are prospering, it is a blessing from God. If they get a better job, a bigger house, a newer car, then they are being blessed by God - - - when in reality, many times these are the very things that draw them away from God. We must realize if these are the things we desire most, God will allow us to have them. God knows our hearts, and if our total desire is not toward Him, then He will allow us to have our desires. The Psalmist wrote of Israel when they were in the wilderness experience:

"And He gave them their request; but sent leanness into their soul." Psalm 106:15

God may give us our request, but He will send leanness into our soul. Many times we, too, trek through our wilderness experience searching for and seeking the things of God, yet desiring the things of the flesh. Too often we are willing to settle for a full wallet, a full belly, and a full tank of gas. The only problem is our soul is impoverished before God. We need to ask, "Have we chosen to believe a lie, giving the man of sin total dominion in our lives?"

Paul states, ". . .that he might be revealed in his time". We are living in the day when sin has come to the full. The anti-christ is coming out of the closet, and blatantly declaring, "I am and none else besides me!" Who is he that will be revealed in his time? He is the man of sin. We must recognize the man of sin in our life and allow the Holy Spirit to change our minds. Paul explained this as he continued to reveal the man of sin:

"For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way." II Thessalonians 2:7

Paul explains, "The mystery of iniquity doth already work. . .". This statement reveals how the antichrist spirit works, pushing just a little further, here a little, there a little.

The man of sin will hinder our course of progress in coming into the image and likeness of our Creator. The man of sin must be taken out of the way, removed, dealt with, put down, and overcome - - - however we choose to describe our victory.

God is bringing to the forefront the most important question we may have to answer, "Are we desiring the things of this life more than we are a relationship with Him?"

Many have put off this battle with the man of sin because they are looking for the great anti-christ to appear. Beloved, we need to know that the antichrist spirit is at work in each of us. We need to recognize the enemy. Then, and only then, can we do battle and overcome him. But our battle with the man of sin is spiritual. We must submit to the Holy Spirit and His direction if we are to be successful in this battle.

The man of sin is also called the son of perdition. The word perdition means "destruction, waste, and to perish." Those who refuse to deal with the man of sin who has taken up residence in their temple will suffer destruction and loss of spiritual life. The word perdition is the Greek word APOLEIA. Peter uses this same word to explain:

"And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of" II Peter 2:2.

The word pernicious is the same Greek word as perdition (APOLEIA). Those who follow their pernicious ways are those who are the sons of perdition. This antichrist spirit is rampant in the earth today. Many can no longer distinguish between good and evil, calling evil good, and good evil. These refuse to deal with the antichrist spirit, the man of sin sitting in their temple.

The following examples reveal this man of sin. Those who have not dealt with the man of sin walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness. Their lives are polluted with the things of the world. Their robes of righteousness are spotted by the flesh, Jude verse 23. These despise any form of authority and refuse to submit to anyone or anything. Their motto is

"If it feels good, do it!"

"But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities." II Peter 2:10

These are presumptuous and self-willed.  Since they refuse to be in subjection, they listen to no one, doing only what they desire. They care less who agrees or disagrees with them.

They speak evil of dignities. The word dignities is translated 155 times as the word glory in God's Word. These speak evil of God's glory. These have no respect for God, the things of God, or God's people. The old sin nature has so overtaken them, they have no fear of God. We not only see this in the lives of those in the world, the government, and the court systems, but also in the midst of the church.

Peter continues, " . . . these as natural brute beasts are made to be taken and destroyed. . ." The word destroyed means "being morally debase". Those who refuse to deal with the antichrist spirit, the man of sin will perish in their corruption. There will be no eternal life for those who refuse to deal with their beast nature. Peter continues:

"And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you." II Peter 2:13

Those who refuse to recognize the anti-christ spirit, the man of sin will receive the reward of unrighteousness because they count it pleasure to riot in the daytime. The word riot means "to be feeble in mind and body because of indulgence". It also means "softness because of luxurious living". This truly describes the majority of those who call themselves by God's name in the United States. These are spots and blemishes upon God's good name.

"Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children:" II Peter 2:14

Today adultery is not mentioned in the church because they would lose much of their congregation. Those who refuse to recognize and deal with the man of sin are unstable souls who cannot cease from sin. Peter calls these cursed children. Adultery and fornication run rampant in the church, and in its youth. They simply call it being "sexually active". Those who are sexually active are called whores and whoremongers in the Bible. Labeling this sin - - - being sexually active - - - sounds better and is more palatable then calling them fornicators.

The same is true when homosexuality is glossed over by calling them "gay". Another modern phrase used for homosexuality is they are "exercising their alternate life style". That sounds better than saying they are flaunting their sin in God's face. Those who run greedily after their sexual sin will perish. God will not be mocked. His ways and His truths are the only ways acceptable in His sight.  James gives us the solution to this problem:

"Draw nigh to God, and He will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded." James 4:8

The answer is that we must draw nigh to God and He will draw nigh to us. If we will cleanse our hands and purify our hearts, then we will be healed of our double mindedness.

Do not look for the man of sin in some future time. Look inside! He is dwelling with you today.

Yes, the man of sin is the antichrist. Every thought and emotion that does not line up with the Word of God is antichrist. As John declared:

"Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time." I John 2:18

Those who allow the man of sin to rule their lives are anti-christ. These need to not only recognize the man of sin, but deal with him and allow the new creation man to come forth.

The new creation man is being formed in the hearts of those who are allowing God to cleanse their consciences. Beloved, we are in the last time. Today is the day of our salvation. God is bringing forth His new creation man. These are the overcomers. Jesus gave us insight into His plans for the overcomers:

"He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be My son." Revelation 21:7

Take special notice here. It is only the overcomers who will inherit all things. It is the overcomers who will become God's manifested sons. The overcomers are those who have made Him the God of their lives. It is God who occupies the throne of their temple. These are those who will inherit all things because they have Him as their God. God has searched for this people since the Garden of Eden, and He will bring them forth in our day. Praise God!
