To The Youth: What Is Wrong With Our Country?
To The Children: Double Hindrances
Many today believe only in a "goody, goody" God. All good comes from God and all hindrances comes from satan. They give God no credit for the correction that He is trying to bring in their lives. In their way of thinking, God is so good and satan is so mean. They willfully overlook the scripture, [see "Pulling the Lions Teeth" by G. Kirkpatrick]
"Behold the goodness and severity of God..." *** Romans 11:22
The word severity is APOTOMIA. APO means "away" and TOME means "to cut." So the word severity means "to cut away." God needs to cut away those things in our lives that are not pleasing in His sight.
In Deuteronomy 28, God spoke of blessings and cursings. The word blessing means "prosperity." He will bring prosperity upon those who follow all His commandments. This does not necessarily mean to prosper financially, but rather, to be prosperous in our walk with God. The only way to receive His blessing is to be obedient to all His commandments.
He then pronounces His cursings. Unfortunately, the only understanding we have of cursings comes from the satanic realm, when an evil person uses curses to bring harm upon someone. But the word curse, as used in *** Deuteronomy 28, means "the absence or reversal of a blessing, falling from our rightful state, and being lowered into a lesser state." It is the opposite of sacred and means "to be separated." In other words, we are no longer in a place where God can bless us because we have separated ourselves from God through disobedience to His Word.
In the first thirteen verses of *** Deuteronomy 28, there are 32 promised blessings given to us if we follow all God's commandments. We need not seek God for these blessings, for they are automatic if we are obedient. Moses wrote:
"And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God." *** Deuteronomy 28:2
God's hand will move to accomplish all these blessings in our lives so that He may establish unto Himself an holy people in the earth. This He has promised if we keep His commandments and walk in His ways, *** Deuteronomy 28:9.
A further promise is given to us. All the people of the earth shall see that we are called by the name of the Lord, and they shall be afraid of us, *** Deuteronomy 28:10. God is establishing His people in the earth so He can pour out all His blessings upon them. These blessed ones have kept all His commandments and have destroyed all the idols in their lives.
Idols in the Bible were made of wood, stone, and brass --- and were referred to as molten or graven images. A molten image is anything made from materials that must be heated and shaped. These could be cars, boats, airplanes, bowling balls, etc. Graven images are fabricated from natural materials and constructed into gods. These images could also be houses, golf clubs, baseballs, etc.
There is another group of idols called teraphims. The word teraphim is the Hebrew word TERAPHIYM and means "a family idol, images." Teraphims are household gods which include anything that takes our time and our money. Teraphims are those things around the house that tie us to the world --- such as TV, stereos, video recorders, etc. Teraphims are the objects that keep us tied to the world --- the objects that take our hearts away from God. Our God is a jealous God.
". . . For the Lord whose name is JEALOUS is a Jealous God." *** Exodus 34:14
When we do all God's commandments, He promises we will be the head, and not the tail.
"And the Lord shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only; and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the Lord thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them:" *** Deuteronomy 28:13
This is living the overcoming life. It only took fourteen verses, *** Deuteronomy 28:1-14, to explain our blessings when we are obedient to God and observe and do all His commands. It took fifty-four verses to proclaim His cursings that will come upon us if we do not hearken unto the voice (not Moses' law) of the Lord our God;
". . .To observe and do all His commandments and His statutes which I command thee this day..." *** Deuteronomy 28:15
God promised that those who refused to follow His voice would be cursed in the city, in the field (cultivated land), in their basket (the gathering of food), cursed in their store (kneading troughs, food preparation), fruit of their body (children), fruit of their land, increase in kine (cattle), also the flocks of sheep (sheep and goats), *** Deuteronomy 28:16-18.
God promised those who do not keep His commandments will live in a lower realm in every aspect of their lives, without the blessings of God.
God also promises the children of disobedience that they will be cursed when they come in, and cursed when they go out, *** Deuteronomy 28:19. Every aspect of their lives and all the activities they partake of will be cursed, which is the reversal of a blessing. They will have fallen from the place of God's wonderful blessings to being separated from Him.
When one becomes sensual in their thinking, they accept the cursings that God brings. They believe that living on this lower realm is the normal way of life, and they can expect nothing else. When someone accepts this as fact, they have fallen into disease. Sickness will begin to overtake their bodies. Every disease known to man is listed in *** Deuteronomy 28.
The first disease listed is vexation. This is the Hebrew word MEHUWMAH and means "confusion, disturbance, mental turmoil, and trouble." Paul informed us that God is not of confusion but of peace, *** I Corinthians 14:33. When we are in confusion and mental turmoil, we are not listening to the voice of our God, but listening to the voice of confusion. In ages past we would have said these people were vexed. When they put themselves in this place, they open themselves up to demonic activity.
The second disease is rebuke, *** Deuteronomy 28:20. This is the Hebrew word MIGERETH and means "frustration caused by a fruitless conclusion of an activity." When they are unable to accomplish or finish a task, they end up frustrated and defeated, falling into self-condemnation. Self-condemnation leads to failed marriages, loss of employment and friends. Many people will draw into themselves and become reclusive and morose. These become subject to the spirit of suicide. This vexation and rebuke is:
". . .In all that thou settest thine hand unto for to do, until thou be destroyed and until thou perish quickly; because of the wickedness of thy doing, whereby thou hast forsaken Me." *** Deuteronomy 28:20
If rebuke (frustration) is a problem, all we need to do is return to God, repent of the wickedness and take heed to His still small voice.
The next disease is pestilence, *** Deuteronomy 28:21. This is the Hebrew word DEBER and means "sickness and plagues that cause death." Examples of pestilence are the Bubonic Plague, which destroyed thousands in Europe; syphilis and gonorrhea plagues, which are sexual transmitted diseases; the Cholera Epidemic, which arose early in this century; and Legionaries Disease, which recently surfaced as a killer.
The next curse God will put on those who refuse to follow His commandments is consumption, *** Deuteronomy 28:22. This is the Hebrew word SHACHEPHETH and means "a disease that causes the body to waste away." This is God's promise of Aids, Cancer, Leprosy, Tuberculosis, Muscular Dystrophy, Lupus, and Parkinson's Disease --- to list a few. All these ultimately cause death.
Then comes inflammation and fever, *** Deuteronomy 28:22. These are the Hebrew words GADDACHATH and DALLEGETH meaning "a disease that produces a fever" such as Scarlet Fever, Yellow Fever, Measles, Malaria, Rheumatic Fever, and Diphtheria. Although some of the fever diseases do not cause death, they incapacitate the victim.
The seventh is extreme burning, *** Deuteronomy 28:22. This is the Hebrew word CHARCHUR and means "disfigurement." The diseases that disfigure the body include Smallpox, Chicken Pox, Measles, Polio, Palsy, Venereal diseases, Muscular Dystrophy, and Multiple Sclerosis. They may or may not cause death, but they leave enduring evidence of their presence.
The next disease is emerods, *** Deuteronomy 28:27. Emerods are hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoids are generally caused by too much sitting, straining the body, or lifting heavy loads the body was not designed to lift. These are extremes of God's intended use of the body. When proper judgment is not used and there is not a balance of activity and rest, many times, hemorrhoids are the result. God has given us commandments on how we are to use the body. When we violate these commandments, then we suffer disease.
Another disease is the scab, *** Deuteronomy 28:27. This is the Hebrew word GARAB and means "to scratch." Scabs are skin diseases that affect the body from head to foot --- from dandruff to athletes feet. Incurable skin diseases are prevalent throughout the earth today. These may cause burning or extreme itching. People spend millions each year trying to control skin diseases that are part of the curse of the scab.
The next curse is the itch. This is the Hebrew word CHEREC and means "an eruptive disease." There are many forms of skin diseases caused by these parasitic insects --- scurvy and hives are but two. These diseases have plagued mankind from the beginning and are very much a part of the curse realm. All because man will not obey the commandments of God!
Then comes madness, *** Deuteronomy 28:28. This is the Hebrew word SHIGGAOWN and means "insanity caused by mental stress." Today mental institutions are full. Psychologists and psychiatrists are paid high prices to deal with mental stress. Although these professions never healed anyone, they formulate a way the person can live in his or her stressful situation. They show them avenues of accepting the problem and living with the problem, instead of solving the problem. These avenues are developed so the mentally ill can cope with the stress that is of their own making, because they have violated the commandments of God.
Next is blindness, *** Deuteronomy 28:27. This is the Hebrew word AVVERETH and means "astonishment." The word astonishment means "confusion of mind from fear and surprise at unexpected events." Fear does not come from God. We are informed in *** II Timothy 1:7 that God has not given us the spirit of fear. When we do not follow the Lord's commandments, we give place to the spirit of fear, which is satan. Fear has gripped our nation and the world. Three generations of children have grown up with the threat of nuclear annihilation hanging over their heads, not knowing where to turn. Jesus said in our day, men's hearts would fail them for fear and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth, *** Luke 21:26.
Those who are keeping God's commandments and following His Word are not allowing fear to reign in their lives. They are not astonished at what is coming upon the earth. They have understanding of the coming events that are foretold in God's Word. Fear not only causes mental anguish, but can cause physical illness also.
Sore sickness is the next disease, *** Deuteronomy 28:59. This is the Hebrew word RA and means "malady, anxiety, calamity, grief." This is commonly recognized as depression. Manic depression is rampant. Depression is being in the lowest parts of the earth. Depression causes us to sink into melancholy that totally saps our strength and dims our outlook, causing us to slide into a state of hopelessness. Depression is the opposite of the joy of the Lord, and we fall into a lower state of existence because we have not followed the commandments of God.
God says He will smite us in the knees and in the legs with a sore botch that cannot be healed from the soles of our feet unto the top of our heads, *** Deuteronomy 28:35. The word botch is the Hebrew word SHEKIN and means "boils and inflamed spots." Boils can be caused by germs, dirt, or diet. It is one of the curses from God that comes upon us because we have violated His commandments and His Word.
All of these curses affect our body and our total existence. There are other curses God has promised if we do not do all His commandments. God's curses are not only on the human body, but upon every facet of our lives.
It is upon the agriculture that produces our food. God promises,
"Curses will be in the field." He states that if we do not follow all His commandments, He will curse our agriculture.
Not only will He curse the growing of our crops, He will also curse the gathering and the storage of our crops, "our basket and store," *** Deuteronomy 28:17.
God reveals we are to keep all His commandments. One of the main commandments man has violated over the centuries is letting the land rest one year in seven. Moses recorded:
"But in the seventh year shall be a sabbath of rest unto the land, a sabbath for the Lord: thou shalt neither sow thy field, nor prune thy vineyard. That which groweth of its own accord of thy harvest thou shalt not reap, neither gather the grapes of thy vine undressed: for it is a year of rest unto the land." *** Leviticus 25:4 & 5
Man has violated this and other commandments concerning God's land, and because of this God has pronounced curses.
"And thy heaven that is over thy head shall be brass, and the earth that is under thee shall be iron. The Lord shall make the rain of thy land powder and dust: from heaven shall it come down upon thee, until thou be destroyed." *** Deuteronomy 28:23-24
The heavens over their head would be brass. The word brass means "heat and rainlessness." Many parts of our nation and the world have suffered heat and drought --- some for five years or longer. The water table has dropped dramatically in the west, midwest, and the south. Crop failures are rampant. The food supply of corn, wheat, and many of the world's staple crops have dropped to an all-time low of only a 30 day supply. There is already famine in many parts of the world. Countries that, in the past were crop exporting nations, are suffering starvation because they have turned their backs on God.
Moses records, "...the earth under thee shall be iron..." We have witnessed this curse in the past few generations. Agriculturists have turned from tried and true agricultural practices of crop rotation, to heavy application of chemicals in fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides. The soil has lost its pliability. The soil structure has been altered and the bio life destroyed. In the last 40 years, larger equipment has had to be used in plowing because the earth is like iron. To prepare seed beds, special heavier equipment must be used which further compacts the soils and ruins soil structure.
In verse 23, both iron and brass are used as descriptive terms to describe the soil. Iron and brass relate to judgment.
In verse 24 Moses said, "The rain of thy land would be powder and dust." This describes the curse of drought. When the land dries up, the top soil blows away, the land becomes unfertile, and crops are unable to grow.
Deuteronomy 28:38 states, "Thou shalt carry much seed out into the field and shalt gather in little. . ." The germination rate of chemically grown seed is much lower. More seed must be sown to produce the same crop. Other contributing factors are drought and flood. Areas not suffering drought are experiencing flooding.
God has promised to give us rain in due season, *** Leviticus 26:4, but when we violate God's commandments concerning the use of His earth, the curse is applied, and we can no longer partake of the goodness and mercy of God. When the food producing ability of the earth fails, the result is famine.
Another curse on the land is blasting, *** Deuteronomy 28:22. Blasting is a species of locust. It is also translated "grasshopper." Locusts are crop destroying insects. Today, the list of crop destroying insects is at an all-time high. Science proclaims they have lost the battle with these insects. Yet, we continue to pour billions of dollars of man-made poisons on the life-bearing and life-giving soil to no avail.
God also promised the curse of mildew in *** Deuteronomy 28:22. This is the Hebrew word YERAQOWN and means "paleness and loss of vibrancy." In crops, this is recognized as weak, watery, unhealthy plants caused by drought, infertility, and insects. Because of the use of chemicals, the plant no longer has the ability to receive nutrition from the soil as God intended.
Man is no longer being nourished from the life giving earth. The soil is only used as a holding agent and is nourished by chemicals applied in huge doses as plant stimulants. The plants seem to grow, but the nutritional value is practically nil. The medical profession has proclaimed that we are starving on full stomachs because our food has no nutritional value.
The weak, watery, unhealthy plants we are growing are giving a smorgasbord to the destroying insects. The heavy applications of pesticides destroy the good insects that God created to keep the destroying insects under control. (God created one insect in ten to destroy the weak, watery plants, but the use of chemical pesticides has destroyed these nine good insects.) Also the use of chemicals has destroyed the birds that help control insects, and today even whole bee colonies are in extreme danger, which could be devastating to food production.
"Thou shalt plant vineyards, and dress them, but shalt neither drink of the wine, nor gather the grapes; for the worms shall eat them." *** Deuteronomy 28:39
"All thy trees and fruit of thy land shall the locust consume." *** Deuteronomy 28:42
The god of greed has blinded the eyes of those who have the responsibility over the soil. Our bodies are made up of the same elements that are in the soil. This is because God created us from the earth. He gave us herbs to maintain our bodies. As long as the soil is healthy, our bodies will be healthy. But when the health of the soil is depleted, our health is severely affected. It all reverts back to the violation of God's commandments. Man believes himself to be god and he has the right to violate God's order. Therefore the blessings of God have been removed, and we witness the results.
We are informed the olive tree would cast its fruit, *** Deuteronomy 28:40. The olive was Israel's main commodity. It was used for food, oil, and building materials. God has forewarned us that our main foods will fail to bear fruit when chemicals are used.
Chemically grown fruit has a tendency to drop its fruit before it matures. Knowing the end from the beginning, God knew the whole world would get caught up in this chemical hell that we live in today. As we witness our hospitals full of children with cancer and other diseases, we need to learn that we have violated God's commandments and have destroyed the life giving quality of His earth. Jesus proclaimed to John on the Isle of Patmos:
". . . And shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth." *** Revelation 11:18
Until we turn from our wicked ways, God will not heal the land.
The curse that disobedience brings, not only affects the health of the people and the land, but it affects the nation itself. As you read this book you may decide that God intended these curses for Israel only. Paul revealed the things that came upon Israel are only examples, and are written for our admonition, (bringing to remembrance) upon whom the ends of the world (age) have come. *** I Corinthians 10:11
God proclaims, "I change not. I am the same yesterday, today, and forever." If God judged Israel for their sin, He will judge the United States for their sin also --- and He will do it speedily.
As we study *** Deuteronomy 28, it is easily discovered that these precise judgments are already upon this nation. God foretold of other judgments that are also coming. God proclaims:
"Cursed shalt thou be in the cities..." *** Deuteronomy 28:16. We wonder why our cities have become murder capitals, and lawlessness is out of control; why crime in our major cities increases every year; why rape, bank robberies, and burglaries are at an all time high. Cities such as Detroit, Michigan; Miami, Florida; Washington D.C. and New York City have areas that are totally given over to the criminal elements. The curse on our cities is because we have not heeded God's commandments. Cities have become armed camps, ready to explode in violence. Teen gangs and organized crime are out of control. Today, 95% of crime is drug related. Brutal crimes, such as beating the old, and child abuse are unparalleled in our time. Sexual abuse of children is rampant, not only in the cities but in the suburbs and countryside. When man forsakes the ways of God, as this nation has, and depends on his old beast nature, then the curse of God becomes evident in their lives.
God promises that He will "send upon thee cursing, vexation (confusion) and rebuke in all that thou setteth thine hand to do. Until thou be destroyed and until thou perish quickly because of the wickedness of thy doings, whereby thou hast forsaken Me." *** Deuteronomy 28:20
God will set His hand against a nation who rejects His counsel. He will bring cursing and vexation to that nation. This nation has become a system of confusion. This describes the workings of our Senate, House of Representatives, and Supreme Court. They have become a system of confusion and compromise. Every decision they make is against God. The end result of their actions will be anguish and torment. God's judgment hand is set against this nation because it has violated His commandments, and His curses are ever present.
One of the curses upon a nation which violates God's commandments is that it will be smitten before their enemies. "We shall go out one way against them, and flee seven ways," *** Deuteronomy 28:25. Since the end of World War II, we have not come out victorious in any conflict, unless we count Grenada and Panama victories, where we attacked these small defenseless nations. We backed out of Korea, crawled out of Viet Nam, ran out of Beirut, failed at the Bay of Pigs, and cowered in our holes while Iran held our government officials for 444 days. Since World War II we have truly fled before our enemies seven ways.
Another curse spoken by God is that strangers within shall get up above thee very high, and thou shalt come down very low, *** Deuteronomy 28:43. The word stranger is GER and means "alien or sojourner." This refers to those who are not native to a nation, nonetheless enjoy the rights of that nation.
Many who are not natural citizens have been brought to the United States for various reasons such as refugees from the Korean, Viet Nam, Cambodian, and Laotian Wars; the Cuban boat lift; as well as the Columbian refugees which number in the millions, who have become discontent with their lot in the cities. Seeking for the American way of life, they have become disillusioned because of the lack of jobs and high cost of living, and have suffered a meager existence in the cities. Many of these have bound themselves in cultic groups, arming themselves to overthrow the government so they may have a better way of life. Many of these groups have mafia connections and are armed and financed by these connections. Many are being trained in terrorist activities. The strangers in our midst will raise themselves up very high.
Another aspect of strangers in our midst is the purchasing power of the oil rich nations such as Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Iran, Libya, United Arab Emirates, and others. Other highly industrialized nations, such as Japan and Germany, have been allowed to purchase large quantities of lands (farming and industrial), banks, office buildings, and manufacturing facilities --- all purchased by strangers in our land. This curse has come upon our land because we have violated the commandments of our God.
Another curse God has pronounced upon this nation is the curse in our finances. Moses recorded that the strangers who come upon the land shall lend to thee and thou shalt not lend to him. He shall be the head and thou shalt be the tail, *** Deuteronomy 28:44.
In the ten short years of the 80's, this nation went from the richest, to the greatest debtor nation on earth. In the recent past we loaned and gave away multi-billions of dollars and did not need to borrow. Today, we still give much away, but we are borrowing from foreign nations at the rate of 100 billion dollars a year. Truly, we have become the tail and not the head.
Our national debt stands at 8.3 trillion dollars, not counting what we owe the Federal Reserve Board which is not part of our government, but is a privately held corporation that coins our monies and regulates the cash flow of the nation. This nation can no longer claim the promises that God made to those who obey His commandments.
". . .The Lord shall make thee plenteous in goods, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy ground, in the land which the Lord sware unto thy fathers to give thee. The Lord shall open unto thee His good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in His season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow." *** Deuteronomy 28:11-12
The idea that debt is healthy and good for big business has not only enticed big business into many paper, multi-billion dollar mergers, which are falling by the wayside in bankruptcy court, but it has enslaved the farmer who produces our food. Foreclosures on farms are at an all time record high because God's commandments were violated.
"Thine ox shall be slain before thine eyes, and thou shalt not eat thereof: thine ass shall be violently taken away from before thy face, and shall not be restored to thee: thy sheep shall be given unto thine enemies, and thou shalt have none to rescue them." *** Deuteronomy 28:31
Sheriff and courthouse sales have become commonplace where farms and operating equipment have been sold at public auctions. Truly, the farmer's goods were taken away violently. No resistance could be mustered because of debt. How far have we fallen, having forsaken the commandments of God?
The last area where the curse of God has fallen is on the American family. Moses writes:
"Thou shalt beget sons and daughters, but thou shalt not enjoy them; for they shall go into captivity." *** Deuteronomy 28:41
The American family is no longer a blissful unit. Rather it is a battleground between the parents and children; even in their preteen years. Since the childrens' rights movement in the early "80's", sex education in the public school system, coupled with the access to drugs and alcohol, coupled with the fact that the rod of correction has been taken from the parent's hand by the government, where if the family corrects their children, they can be taken away (Department of Human Services or Children Services), truly, the parents can no longer enjoy their children. The children have gone into captivity --- captivity to drugs, alcohol, sex, and rebellion.
The home has further been invaded by rock and roll, acid rock, heavy metal, and other satanic forms of godless activities. The children are allowed to display godless, satanic images in their rooms. These satanic images are portrayed on the children's walls in the form of star posters of this perversion. Many of these children go into witchcraft and crime to support their new found lifestyle. They become a thorn in the parent's soul.
"Thy sons and thy daughters shall be given unto another people, and thine eyes shall look, and fail with longing for them all the day long: and there shall be no might in thine hand." *** Deuteronomy 28:32
This is because we have forsaken God and His commandments. He is no longer the head of the home. The American home has been rocked to the foundation. Divorce is over 50% and the number of unmarried living together has never been higher. Will we not turn back to God? [see "Set A Standard in the Land" by George Kirkpatrick]
Every aspect of life is plagued by these curses: our personal health, the agriculture community that produces our food, industry that maintains this way of life, the financial structure of the nation, and the family unit itself - - - all are cursed with a curse.
"Moreover He will bring upon thee all the diseases of Egypt, which thou wast afraid of; and they shall cleave unto thee. Also every sickness, and every plague, which is not written in the book of this law, them will the Lord bring upon thee, until thou be destroyed." *** Deuteronomy 28:60-61
Will our disease problems get better? Does medical science have the answers? Can this nation work their way out of their financial mess? Can the industrial community survive? And can the American home return as the foundational structure of the nation? I believe the answer is in Deuteronomy:
"Moreover all these curses shall come upon thee, and shall pursue thee, and overtake thee, till thou be destroyed; because thou hearkenedst not unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to keep His commandments and His statutes which He commanded thee: Because thou servedst not the Lord thy God with joyfulness, and with gladness of heart, for the abundance of all things." *** Deuteronomy 28:45 &47
This nation will not turn back to God.
God has given us, His Body, the key in His Word as to how we can break the chain of sickness, disease, and decay. We can reverse the curse in our own lives if we hear His voice and turn from our evil ways and become a praise unto God in the earth. Then, and only then, can we expect the blessings of God to begin to flow to us.
