Dear Body,                                                               No Free Salvation                                                                    April 1, 2008

Once upon a time a king, in order to help his people, commanded the wise of his kingdom to write down all the knowledge of the world. After ten years, the wise men brought ten, beautifully bound volumes containing all the knowledge of the world before the king. The king said, "This is much too long. People will never read it." So the wise men returned to work, and after five years, they had reduced the twelve volumes into one volume. Again, the king said, This, too, is too long. People will not read it." So again, the wise men labored another year, reducing all the knowledge of the world to one page. Again the king rejected their work because he though the people would not take time to read the full page. Finally the wise men put their heads together and came up with one sentence that encompassed all the knowledge of the world. Their end conclusion was, "There ain't no free lunch." This statement the king accepted.

The same is true of God's salvation plan. There is no free salvation. God's plan of salvation will cost you everything. First, it will cost you your family. Jesus informed the multitude:

"If any man come to Me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple." Luke 14:26

The word hate means "to have an indifference and relative disregard for anyone in comparison with our attitude toward God." We are not to esteem anyone above our relationship with our God. If this is not our attitude, we cannot be his disciple. Jesus continues,

"So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple," Luke 14:33.

If we are to be His disciples, we must forsake all. If we hold anything back, this then becomes our god. But if we give everything back to God, He will restore all things to us which we need. Many fail to give up family ties - - - and in order to keep peace in the family, they go along with, and become partakers of their family's ungodly ways. Through the pen of Matthew, Jesus informs us:

"He that loveth father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me." Matthew 10:37

If we love father and mother more than we love God, then we are not worthy of Him. The word worthy means "things of like value." Many today have fallen away from God because they allow their families to influence them in where they go to church, insistent on how they worship, God, dress codes, and what precepts and doctrines they must follow. God has made wonderful promises to those who have broken the ties to their earthly families: "And everyone that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for My name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life. Matthew 1929. When we give it all to God, He gives it back an hundredfold, and we will inherit eternal life.

What else must we give up if we are to be part of God's plan of salvation? We must give up our own life. Matthew recorded Jesus' words:

"For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for My sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it." Mark 8:35.

If we try to save our carnal life, we will end up losing our Spiritual life in Christ. We cannot have both. We must choose one or the other. Jesus informed, and John records:

"He that loveth His life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal," John 12:25.

If we love the life we now live, then we will lose it. But if we hate the life we are now living in this world, then God will give us His eternal life. Luke recorded Jesus' words:

"And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after Me, cannot be My disciple," Luke 14:27.

If we do not bear our cross, we cannot be His disciple. Why do we need a cross? It is because, we must die daily upon it. What else must we give up?

"Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal," Matthew :19-20.

Our treasures must be laid up in heaven (in the Spiritual realm). We must give up all to keep anything. We are reminded of the rich, young ruler who had much, but lost everything when he would not sell all and follow Christ. The love of money has become the god of too many of God's people, but Jesus warned us that we cannot serve God and mammon, Matthew 6:24. The Spirit moved James to write:

"Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days," James 5:3.

Those who have laid up treasures for the last days not only will lose them, but will lose their eternal life.

The church system has watered down God's plan of salvation to where it is no longer recognizable. When we compare it to God's Word, there is no free salvation. God's gifts are free, but His gifts are to bring us into the suffering realm to overcome all the things God does not want in our lives. Few have the Spiritual gift of `longsuffering'. This is the main gift we need to get us through the days ahead. Praise the Lord!

As always in Christ
