God Desires Truth In His
by George Kirkpatrick
Proclaiming the Everlasting Gospel of the Kingdom
In my many years of writing it has been my policy not to write about personal experiences or how God reveals His truths to me. I am going to break that policy to tell you how this book came about. I was dreaming that God wanted me to go to a foreign county (not sure of the country) to begin a church. But first He wanted me to write a letter to lay down God's truths He desired taught in the church.
As I began to write, God showed me these truths are to be in all churches if we are to invoke God's blessings. If the church does not keep God's truths as He has set them down in His Word, they cannot expect God's blessings.
If the church does not keep God's all important truths, then what can they expect? God's judgment on a disobedient children. Paul wrote of these children of disobedience:
"Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:" Ephesians 2:2
Paul stated the children of disobedience walked according to the course of this world. The word course is the Greek word AION and means "the age or time we live in." Many proclaim we are in the twenty-first century so the Bible could not apply to our time. This error has crept into the church and has become an established policy so the people can continue to live like the world. While they confess to be obedient to God's Word, they serve the prince of the power of the air.
The word power means "the liberty to do as one pleases." The princes of the power of the air are the rulers of this world. The word air is the Greek word AER and means "the lower, denser air - - - or the atmosphere in which we live so we can breathe." Paul is saying God's people serve the rulers of this world so they can do and act as they please. This self-serving spirit works in the children of disobedience.
Paul continued his revelation to the church at Ephesus, explaining what God expects of His children:
"And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given Himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savour." Ephesians 5:2
We are to walk in love. We are to walk as Christ walked, not the way the world walks. Paul explains how the world walks:
"But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks. For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God." Ephesians 5:3-5
Paul warned against the things God does not want in His church. His church is to be without spot or wrinkle, holy and without blame, yet the fornicators, adulterers, and whoremongers sit in the church and are never dealt with. Their sin is accepted because they fill a pew and help with the enormous debt of the church. Their uncleanness (moral impurity), their filthiness (obscenity), and their uncleanness never become an issue in the church. Paul warns all who will listen:
"Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience." Ephesians 5:6
God considers the partakers of all the above to be children of disobedience. What can the children of disobedience expect? They can expect the wrath of God. God spoke to ancient Israel:
"I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:" Deuteronomy 30:19
These same choices have been set before the church - - - life and blessing - - - or death and cursing. Every person who makes up the church has a choice to make. No matter what a church teaches or what their policies are, they do not override the Word of God. We are informed by Paul:
"Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling." Philippians 2:12
Every individual is responsible for their own salvation before God. If we choose God's life and His blessings, then we are admonished to get what is expected of us as God's people out of His Word, not from other writings, nor what comes from the pulpit. Paul warns God's people of the things God does not want in His church:
Paul told the church at Ephesus not to be deceived by vain (worthless) words. It is because of these things the wrath of God will come upon the children of disobedience. Then Paul admonished them:
"Be not ye therefore partakers with them." Ephesians 5:7
Paul also warned us against those denominational systems who have turned away from God's Word and justify their actions in the church:
"Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away." II Timothy 3:5
Those who seem to be religious, but deny the power of the Holy Spirit to work in their lives are the children of disobedience. Paul admonishes to turn away from these children of wrath, and be not partakers with them.
What are the truths God desires to be put back into the church?
What is one of the basic truths that has been neglected in the church system today? Tithes, offerings, and alms giving. The people have been taught to support programs, building funds, and missionary causes - - - but very little, if anything, is said about tithing, offerings, and alms giving. It has been stated by some that nothing is said about tithing in the New Testament. Jesus spoke of tithing when He addressed the Pharisees:
"But woe unto you, Pharisees! For ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone." Luke 11:42
Jesus did not admonish the Pharisees for paying tithes, He admonished them for not teaching the judgment and love of God. How like the church system of today. Those who stand in the pulpits are afraid to mention God's judgment upon a sinful world and nation. And they certainly would not mention God's judgment upon a lukewarm, sinful church. The only love of God that is spoken of is God's love toward them. Nothing is said about the people's love toward God.
Jesus told the Pharisees they should pay tithe on mint, rue, and all herbs. These were the simplest things in their lives. Jesus was commanding them to pay tithes on everything in their lives, even the simplest things - - - but not to leave out the weightier matters of judgment and their love towards God.
Tithing is a universal law of God. The first mention of tithing was when Abraham paid tithe to Melchizedec when he returned from the battle of the kings. As we consider who this Melchizedec was, then we will know who we are to pay tithe to. Paul, in his letter to the Hebrews, explains:
"Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an High Priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec. For this Melchisedec, King of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him; to whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace; without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually." Hebrews 6:20 & 7:1-3
Christ Jesus is our forerunner. He was the beginning and is the continuation of the Melchisedec priesthood. He is the King of Salem (peace). He is the priest of the most high God. He is the King of all righteousness. He is without father, without mother, without descent. He had no beginning of days, nor did He have end of life.
We know this could not be speaking of Jesus while He walked the earth. Paul was writing of Christ Jesus in His all-glorious position as the Father of lights who left His glory and was clothed in human flesh (made like unto the Son of God), but now in His Spiritual realm, abideth a priest continually (eternally). Paul goes on to explain:
"Now consider how great this man was, unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils. And verily they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is, of their brethren, though they come out of the loins of Abraham: But He whose descent is not counted from them received tithes of Abraham, and blessed him that had the promises. And without all contradiction the less is blessed of the better." Hebrews 7:4-7
The church teaches only of Jesus in the flesh. They fail to teach Christ Jesus. Paul declared in his second letter to Timothy:
"Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began," II Timothy 1:9
Our plan of salvation was preordained in Christ Jesus before the world began. Christ Jesus is the risen, all-glorious Father of lights who is without father, mother and descent, without beginning of days or end of life. It was He who blessed Abraham because He was greater than our father, Abraham.
"And here men that die receive tithes; but there He receiveth them, of whom it is witnessed that He liveth." Hebrews 7:8
So when we pay tithes, we are paying them to the priest of the most high God, Christ Jesus. The prophet Malachi asked:
"Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed Me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed Thee? In tithes and offerings." Malachi 3:8
When the church fails to teach tithing, they are teaching the people to rob God. Not only are they robbing God in tithes, but also in offerings. Malachi admonishes the people:
"Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in Mine house, and prove Me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it." Malachi 3:10
The storehouse is where you are being fed. Malachi speaks of there being meat in God's house. Unfortunately there is not much meat in His house anymore. What is taught in the church today cannot be considered meat. It is only warmed over milk, Sunday after Sunday.
The church's failure to teach the basic truths has brought reproach and disgrace upon what was supposed to be blessed of God. Malachi gives hope in our God:
"Even from the days of your fathers ye are gone away from Mine ordinances, and have not kept them. Return unto Me, and I will return unto you, saith the Lord of hosts. But ye said, Wherein shall we return?" Malachi 3:7
If the church repents and returns to God, then He will return unto them, and the church can again become strong, and be a light in a darkened world.
Malachi related the church has robbed God in offerings. Offerings are what you give beyond the tithe. This is a freewill offering unto God, not to support a program or building fund, but to fulfill what God has laid on your heart to do - - - not to be seen of men, but to only be seen of God.
The third area of our giving is alms giving. Alms giving is giving to the poor. Jesus informed us:
"For the poor always ye have with you; but Me ye have not always." John 12:8
Jesus stated the poor will always be with us. So there is always opportunity to minister to the poor in alms giving. Most churches have a program where at Christmas they give baskets to the poor. This is commendable, but what do the poor do for the other three hundred and sixty-four days of the year?
If we are to be pleasing to God, then we must become rivers, where God and all that concerns Him can flow through us. Unfortunately, the church system has become a sea, where there is only inflow and nothing flows out, becoming stagnant and a stink to the high heaven. The church is no longer a sweet savour unto God. All He smells is the stink of their religious stagnation.
As we search for the truths in God's Word to learn what He wants taught in His church we need to look at what God hates in those who are called by His name. The all-wise Solomon gives us a list of what God hates:
"These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto Him:
A proud look
A lying tongue
Hands that shed innocent blood
An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations
Feet that be swift in running to mischief
A false witness that speaketh lies
And he that soweth discord among brethren. Proverbs 6:16-19
As we consider these one at a time, then we can understand that what God hates is the exact opposite of His truth.
A Proud Look - not only has to do with one's facial appearance, it includes how one acts and reacts in every situation. The prophet Isaiah puts this in very meaningful terms:
"Moreover the Lord saith, Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, and walk with stretched forth necks and wanton eyes, walking and mincing as they go, and making a tinkling with their feet:" Isaiah 3:16
When we see the word daughters in the Old Testament, it refers to the church in the New Testament. So Isaiah was saying the church is haughty, exalted, arrogant, and high and lifted up in self. They walk with stretched forth necks. The phrase stretched forth means "inclined" - - - or they walk with their heads tipped back, not seeing the needs around them. They believe they are above all others and cannot concern themselves with a lost world.
These prosperity teachers teach the people to prosper in worldly things, while their souls are destitute of Christ.
A proud look has to do with pride in the heart of the church. The Psalmist David puts it very plainly:
"Whoso privily slandereth his neighbour, him will I cut off: him that hath an high look and a proud heart will not I suffer." Psalm 101:5
David made it very clear that God will not allow (suffer) an high look and a proud heart. Again David wrote:
" Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me." Psalm 131:1
Even though David was king, he knew God would not honor a haughty heart and lofty eyes. David knew God hated these things in God's people. Yet, God's people today have so much pride in the things they own, the car they drive, the clothes they wear, and even in the denomination they belong to. They lift these things up, and yet Christ is not evident in their lives.
David stated he did not exercise himself in great matters or things to high for him. David knew there were things in God's realm only God could take care of, and he would take care of the things God had given him to do. The church system today wants to be involved in civic affairs, politics, and many other things, of which Jesus gave no attention too. Isaiah spoke of the day we are very quickly coming to:
"The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the Lord alone shall be exalted in that day." Isaiah 2:11
Isaiah prophesied that the lofty looks and the haughtiness of man shall be humbled in that day. Only the Lord will be exalted in the days ahead. The all-wise Solomon wrote of our day:
"There is a generation, O how lofty are their eyes! And their eyelids are lifted up." Proverbs 30:13
Solomon spoke of a generation, which is the last generation, the generation in which we live. He bemoans their lofty eyes and how their eyelids are lifted up. All they see is their pride. Their vision of Christ has been so altered, they no longer seek God's grace and mercy. They truly have become the Laodicean church in need of nothing. Jesus reveals the truth of this luke-warm, church system in the earth today:
"And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God; I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of My mouth. Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:" Revelation 3:14-17
Jesus states those today who are depending on their prosperity teaching are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked. They are naked because the Spirit of God has departed from their false teachings. Truly, God has removed His candlestick from their midst. By Jesus words we know:
"And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted." Matthew 23:12
God will abase those who exalt themselves. The apostle James understood this principle when he proclaimed:
"Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He shall lift you up." James 4:10
We are to humble ourselves in God's sight. When we do this, then we have His promise He will lift (exalt) us up. Peter, who was given the keys to the Kingdom, declared:
"Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time:" I Peter 5:6
When we humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God, then He will exalt us in due time. It will be in His time. Self-exaltation is a proud look, and God truly hates this. And He will deal with a proud look in His way and in His time.
A Lying Tongue
The next thing God hates is a lying tongue. Lying has become fashionable and is accepted as a form of communication. One of the most popular Presidents of this nation has stated, "Lying is an accepted part of politics." During the 1960's the youth of this nation were taught to say whatever the adults wanted to hear. Lying and deception have become an art form used in advertising, politics, and even in the church to fleece the flock.
In reality, deception is the lowest form of lying. The word deceive means "to lead away into error and sin." The all-wise Solomon informed all who would hear:
"Lying lips are abomination to the Lord: but they that deal truly are His delight." Proverbs 12:22
Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord. Those who believe they can lie, yet be blessed by the Lord have deceived themselves. Only those who deal truly and truthfully are His delight. Solomon continues because he knew how much God hates lying:
"A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies." Proverbs 14:5
Solomon stated a faithful witness will not lie. Some of the last words Jesus spoke on earth were:
"But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto Me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth." Acts 1:8
We are to be God's witnesses unto the uttermost parts of the earth. We cannot be faithful witnesses if we lie. There are many ways to lie. We not only lie with our mouths, but with our intentions. The beloved John gave us another way we can lie:
"He that saith, I know Him, and keepeth not His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him." I John 2:4
If we do not keep God's commandments (His Word), then we are liars, and the truths of God's Word is not in us. As Solomon stated we become false witnesses of what God called us to be. Solomon also informs us:
"A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin." Proverbs 26:28
A lying tongue hates those who are afflicted by it. The word afflicted means "crushed or oppressed." When someone is lied to or lied about, they truly are crushed and oppressed. Many lives have been ruined by the lying tongue. This is true also in today's church. Many have fallen away from God by what was said about them in the church.
A flattering mouth is also a deceiver. Today many so-called prophets build up people's hopes of a great ministry or great wealth because that is what the people want to hear. Some even go so far as to type out these lies so people can hang them on their walls. Those who believe these lies fail to go on with God because they have put their walk with God in the hands of these false, lying prophets.
The prayers of an unknown Psalmist should be our prayer:
"Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue." Psalm 120:2
Deliver me from lying lips and deceitful tongues. This Psalmist knew the damage and danger of lying lips and the deceitful tongue. Timothy gives us a list which includes liars:
"Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, for whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine." I Timothy 1:9-10
All these in Timothy's list are contrary to sound doctrine. The next time it would seem convenient or expedient to tell a little white lie, perhaps one should consider the list one is included in. One should also note God does not differentiate between a little white lie and a great big black one. A little white lie makes you just as guilty before God as any other lie.
Timothy includes liars with those who murder their father and mother. He also includes liars in the list with whoremongers, homosexuals, kidnappers, and those who would lie to God.
Many who call themselves by the name of Christ continue to lie because they do not believe God's Word. In essence, they are calling God a liar. When Jesus confronted the religious system of His day, He told them who they were serving:
"Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it." John 8:44
Those who lie are serving the same father the Pharisees were serving. Jesus informed the best known religious system of His day they were serving their father the devil. How little things have changed since Jesus left the earth. Today the religious systems are more afraid of the devil then they are of God. The devil is given place in every one of their services. The people are told they must constantly fight the devil. God's Word tells us if we resist the devil, he will flee from us, James 4:7.
The religious system is serving the devil and they are not even aware of who their true Father is. They give lip service to Jesus on Sunday and lie on Monday and the rest of the week. When someone wants a day off from work, they think nothing of calling in sick. When a neighbor or brother or sister ask for a helping hand and we say we are busy, when, in reality, we have nothing to do, it is a lie. The list of how we can lie and justify the lie before God is endless. But we serve a just God who judges righteously. God judges by His Word and His Word states:
"But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death." Revelation 21:8
Again, we see most of the list Timothy listed, but Jesus added fearful, unbelieving, abominable, sorcerers (witchcraft) and idol worshipers.
So what are the truths God wants in His church? It is very simple, it is truth itself.
Hands That Shed Innocent Blood
Solomon continued with the things God hates - - - hands that shed innocent blood, Proverbs 6:17. We live in the day when murder and violence have pervaded the land. Murder is so common . If only one or two are killed, it hardly makes the evening news. Mass murders are common. This was unheard of fifty years ago. To take another's life was considered horrible. This only happened in the big cities - - - in New York City, in Chicago, San Francisco, etc - - - then only in gang warfare. Now teenage gangs roam the streets, preying on the innocent and killing with no reason.
This murder scourge has reached to every small town and hamlet in this nation. Children kill their classmates. Schools must have armed police officers patrolling their hallways and bath rooms. Violence, sex, drugs, and alcohol appear on every channel of the television. Movies have become more violent and the macho maniacs run rampant with a machine gun in each hand, Then we wonder why our youth have become so violent, and seeking glory by how many they have killed, and how much mayhem and carnage they have caused.
Yet the church sits quietly while even the youth in the church display this violence and their causes on their tee-shirts and jackets. This has truly become a violent nation. The prophet Ezekiel spoke of what this nation has become:
"Make a chain: for the land is full of bloody crimes, and the city is full of violence." Ezekiel 7:23
The big cities have become so bad that there are even areas the armed police are afraid to go into. Truly the land is full of bloody crimes, and our cities have become the dwelling place of degenerate criminals. The Lord Jesus informed us that as it was in the days of Noah. . . Matthew 24:37. How was it in the days of Noah? We read in Genesis:
"The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence." Genesis 6:11
The earth was corrupt before God and filled with violence. Jesus spoke of the earth being just like it was before He destroyed it with the flood. In Matthew 24:37 He tells us this is the way the earth will be before His second coming. But by His Word, we know His second coming will be after He judges the corrupt, violent, evil world. Truly His judgment cannot be far off, as corrupt and violent that the earth has become.
We must realize the most heinous crime against mankind is killing our unborn young. Yet it is commonly accepted by many church leaders who state that abortion is OK if the mother's life is in danger. Mothers' lives have been in danger since women have been giving birth. For centuries this was an accepted fact, but in our modern society most believe we have the right to choose who will live and who must die. The Psalmist David understood:
"He that is our God is the God of salvation; and unto God the Lord belong the issues from death." Psalm 68:20
The issues of death are in God's hands. When man decides who can live and who must die, he is playing God. Our God is a jealous God and His hand will be upon those who want to take His place. God gives us a revelation in II Kings. When Manasseh was King of Israel he killed the innocent:
"And also for the innocent blood that he shed: for he filled Jerusalem with innocent blood; which the Lord would not pardon." II Kings 24:4
God will not pardon (forgive) those who participate in this crime against the unborn - - - parents who allow it, the court systems who have OK'd it, and the doctors who perform it. God's law reads:
"Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made He man." Genesis 9:6
There is a growing issue in this nation against capital punishment. There would be no issue if those who opposed this issue would read and believe the Word of God. Yet many who call themselves by the name of Christ will be part of all-night vigils to protest the shedding of blood of those who have broke one of God's foremost laws of killing another person.
King David was called a bloody man because he fought in many wars. David misused the power of the sword when he had Uriah, Bathsheba's husband killed. David's soul was tormented by this act, and he cried out to God:
"Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness." Psalm 51:14
David knew God hated the shedding of innocent blood even in wartime, and he repented and God forgave him. David did not try to hide his crime. David had a repentant heart. God looks upon a repentant heart - - - but where there is no repentance, then God must judge the vile acts of violence. The prophet Isaiah proclaimed:
"And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide Mine eyes from you: yea, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear: your hands are full of blood." Isaiah 1:15
When our hands are full of blood, God has promised He will not hear our prayers. When this nation is guilty of shedding innocent blood the prayers offered up for this nation will not be heard by God. The all-wise Solomon wrote:
"He shall redeem their soul from deceit and violence: and precious shall their blood be in His sight." Psalm 72:14
All life is precious in the sight of God - - - born and unborn. Those who participate in the shedding of innocent blood or agree with it are an affront to God, and God hates their actions.
These are truths that need to be in the church.
An Heart That Deviseth Wicked Imaginations
The word deviseth means "to desire or to plan or conceive." Those who plan and conceive wickedness in their imagination and do evil to others often accomplish this by word or deed. In his letter to the Hebrews, Paul warned:
"Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God." Hebrews 3:12
Those who believe they can defile God's Word without any retribution have departed from the living God in unbelief. They have allowed their evil imaginations to cost them their salvation. Solomon disclosed:
"He that deviseth to do evil shall be called a mischievous person." Proverbs 24:8
When we think of the word mischievous we think of the acts of a child. But what Solomon spoke has nothing to with the acts of a child. The way Solomon used the word mischievous means "evil, deceitful, and wickedness." Those who devise evil and are deceitful have wicked imaginations which God hates. The prophet Micah related:
"Woe to them that devise iniquity, and work evil upon their beds! When the morning is light, they practice it, because it is in the power of their hand." Micah 2:1
The word woe is a feeling of dread. Micah states woe or dread to them who devise iniquity and work evil upon their beds. Then they put their evil works into action when morning comes. Micah relates they do this because it is power in their hands. The word power means "god-like or mighty-one." Those who practice evil believe they have power in their hands to do evil with no retribution for their acts. They have lied and deceived themselves, believing God will not judge their evil deeds. By the Holy Spirit anointing Zechariah writes:
"And let none of you imagine evil in your hearts against his neighbour; and love no false oath: for all these are things that I hate, saith the Lord." Zechariah 8:17
Zechariah also records that God hates those who imagine evil against their neighbor and love false oaths. The word oath means "attesting or testifying to declaring one's innocency." Zechariah is referring to those who attest or swear to someone's innocence when they know they are guilty. Those who do these things are a thorn in God's side. This is why God destroyed the earth with a flood in the book of Genesis:
"And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually." Genesis 6:5
God's judgment came because of man's wickedness and the evil thoughts in man's hearts. As we look at the world today with all of its evil, violence, and complete irreverence for God, can His judgment be far off? Jeremiah spoke of our day when he declared:
"They say still unto them that despise Me, The Lord hath said, ye shall have peace; and they say unto every one that walketh after the imagination of his own heart, No evil shall come upon you." Jeremiah 23:17
The false prophets declare to them who despise God, "You shall have peace and no evil shall come upon those who walk after the imagination of their own heart."
"No evil shall come upon you"
This is taught to the luke-warm church of which God is going to vomit out of His mouth. The message of "No Judgment" has pervaded the church. The teaching of a phony rapture and once-saved, always-saved is the false prophet's assurance to their followers that no evil will come upon them. Those who are held captive by their denominational orders are reassured Sunday after Sunday that God loves you. You are His children, and He will do you no harm. They forget the words of Paul:
"Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in His goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off." Romans 11:22
This is the message the church has shunned because it is not popular. The church has accepted the evil thoughts and wicked imaginations in their midst with no conviction coming from the pulpit of God's judgment on such acts. Paul related to the church at Rome:
"Because that, when they knew God, they glorified Him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened." Romans 1:21
Today the church system glorifies their denominations more than they glorify God. They cannot as much as bow their head and thank God for their food. Their vain imaginations have darkened their foolish hearts, and because they are told from the pulpit that God loves them right where they are, there is no need for change. Their foolish hearts (minds) remain in ignorance that God's judgment is coming upon the church. Peter declared:
"For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?" I Peter 4:17
God will judge His church before He judges the world. His judgment is coming upon those who have not dealt with the wicked imaginations and their evil heart. An unknown Psalmist wrote:
"Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful." Psalm 1:1
These are the truths God wants in His church, not the nonsense of no judgment, the rapture, and once-saved, always-saved. Another error that has taken the church by storm is the teaching of ultimate and universal reconciliation. This is the most damnable teaching that has ever been brought forth as truth since the world began. They teach all, including satan, will ultimately be saved. Then one must ask the question, "If all are going to be saved, why did God send His Son to be beaten and suffer a cruel death to save us from our sin?"
Their only answer to this is God is love and Jesus paid the ultimate sacrifice so we could live. This is true, but He also told us to pick up our cross and follow Him, Matthew 16:24. We need to pick up our cross so we can die daily to the old man.
Those who teach the damnable heresy of ultimate reconciliation assure people no matter how they live, they will ultimately be saved. These have made a mockery of what Jesus died for. Yet much of the church continues in their ignorance instead of searching for God's truths in His glorious Word.
God Hates Feet That Are Swift In Running To Mischief
Solomon discloses the fifth thing God hates:
". . . feet that are swift in running to mischief. . ." Proverbs 6:18
We have already looked at the word mischief as being evil and wickedness. Solomon particularly mentions those who are quick and hasten to become part of another's evil and wickedness. Asaph the Psalmist writes:
"But unto the wicked God saith, What hast thou to do to declare My statutes, or that thou shouldest take My covenant in thy mouth? Seeing thou hatest instruction, and castest My words behind thee. When thou sawest a thief, then thou consentedst with him, and hast been partaker with adulterers. Thou givest thy mouth to evil, and thy tongue frameth deceit." Psalm 50:16-19
Asaph, the Psalmist, was writing to those who hate wise counsel and turn their back on God's Word. He states when this one sees a thief, he consents with the thief. Today more attention is paid to the thief to assure his rights are protected then there is to the victim who's property has been taken away. God hates this when the innocent are punished and the guilty go free.
Asaph also states they have been partakers with adulterers. Today the worldly women wear only enough to barely cover their nakedness. The TV, magazines and news racks are filled with sex, violence, drugs, drinking, and every other vile thing they can print. When one feast's their eyes on such things then they are partakers with the adulterers, whoremongers, and every other vile thing God hates. Jesus declared:
"But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart." Matthew 5:28
Every sexual act begins in the mind. The eyes are the window of the soul. When we allow our eyes to dwell upon corruptness, then our righteous soul is wounded. Job declared:
"I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?" Job 31:1
Job knew if he allowed his eyes to dwell upon a woman he would think about her. So he made a covenant not to be guilty of the lust of the flesh, and only to desire his own wife.
Asaph continues, "Thou givest thy mouth to evil and wickedness." Those who are swift to run to evil and wickedness not only talk of the evil they allow, but there deceit is in their mouths. With their mouths they use treachery and lies to cover up their sins. In his letter to the church at Rome, Paul speaks of these who are swift in running to mischief:
"Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful. Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them." Romans 1:29-32
Those who are swift to run to mischief know the judgment. They may not be well-versed in the Bible, but all have heard of the flood of Noah and the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. So they are not ignorant of God's judgment.
They not only do the things that are worthy of death, but they take pleasure in those who commit the same. The old saying is "Birds of a feather flock together" is sure true in those who are swift to run to mischief. In this same letter to the Romans, Paul writes of those who have an evil and wicked heart:
"And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;" Romans 1:28
Those who refuse to retain God in their hearts, He has turned them over to a reprobate mind. A reprobate mind is one who has rejected God, and this is why they do those things which are not convenient (acceptable to God). Those who fail to heed the words Paul wrote to the church at Rome will not escape God's judgment.
"For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;" Romans 1:18
These are the truths God wants in His church.
God Hates a False Witness That Speaketh Lies
The word false means "to deceive, fraud, and vain." One of the Ten Commandments is:
"Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh His name in vain." Exodus 20:7
The only ones who can take the name of the Lord in vain are those who are called by His name, yet do not live His life. Truly these are false witnesses for Christ. We know God will not hold them guiltless who take His name in vain. When one calls him or herself by the name of Christ and lives like the world, then their life becomes a lie in the sight of God. These will be judged more harshly by God, than those who have not taken His name.
Those who are false witnesses for Christ are those who use His name, yet do not live by the dictates of His Word. Titus addressed these false witnesses:
"Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled. They profess that they know God; but in works they deny Him, being abominable and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate." Titus 1:15-16
The false witnesses for Christ are those who profess to know God, but their works and their ways deny Him. Jesus informed us:
"But whosoever shall deny Me before men, him will I also deny before My Father which is in heaven." Matthew 10:33
If our works and our ways deny God before men, then Jesus will deny we are one of His before the Father. Jesus informed us how we deny Him:
"Then said Jesus unto His disciples, If any man will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me." Matthew 16:24
One denies Christ when they refuse to deny self, their selfish ways, their self-rule, and refuse to lift up Christ instead of self. Those who will not take up their own cross to die daily will never see God because they are not pure in heart before Him. Jesus informed us in His Sermon on the Mount:
"Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God." Matthew 5:8
Only the pure in heart will see God. Those who have taken His name but are not pure in heart are false witnesses, and will suffer God's judgment and wrath. Jesus stated we were to take up our cross and follow Him. Peter informed us:
"For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow His steps:" I Peter 2:21
If we do not follow in His steps and walk as He walked, then we become false witnesses which God hates.
These are the truths God wants back in His church. He desires a separated people unto Him who will become His glory in the earth. Many today are secret Christians. The only time anyone knows they profess Christ is when they see their car in front of the church. God knows their hearts. Luke recorded Jesus words:
"For whosoever shall be ashamed of Me and of My words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when He shall come in His own glory, and in His Father's and of the holy angels." Luke 9:26
If one is ashamed of God's Word, then He is ashamed of them because they are false witnesses of His will and of His ways. Luke continues:
"But he that denieth Me before men shall be denied before the angels of God." Luke 12:9
Even the angels know who the false witnesses are. When these false witnesses stand before God, what can they expect? Jesus reveals:
"Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in Thy presence, and Thou hast taught in our streets. But He shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from Me, all ye workers of iniquity." Luke 13:26-27
They may have taken His communion. They may have even taught Christ in the streets, but they never knew Him. All they had was a religious experience, but no relationship with the Father. Jesus called them workers of iniquity (unrighteous), violating the law (the Word of God) in their lives.
Solomon gives us insight as to what these false witnesses for Christ can expect:
"A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall not escape." Proverbs 19:5
Truly God's judgment will begin at the house of God on all who have taken His name in vain and have become false witnesses of the example He has set before us to follow, I Peter 4:17.
God Hates Those Who Sow Discord Among the Brethren
Solomon listed six things God hates, but he also mentioned the seventh thing which goes beyond what God hates:
"These six things doth the Lord hate: yea seven are an abomination unto Him:
". . . He that soweth discord among brethren." Proverbs 6:16 & 19b
Sowing discord among the brethren is an abomination unto the Lord. The word abomination means "to loathe and detest". The word abomination goes beyond the word hate. Actually the word hate means "to become one's enemy." When we do those things God hates we become enemies of God. But when we cause discord, strife, and contention among the brethren, then God loathes and detests these actions. When Paul faced Elymas, the sorcerer, he spoke harshly to him because he was sowing discord in what Paul was doing:
"And said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?" Acts 13:10
Elymas' real name was Barjesus which means son of Jesus. Today there are still many who call themselves sons of Jesus, yet are sowing discord and hindering what God is doing in His body. The word Elymus means "wise and learned." There are many Elymus's (those who are wise and learned) today who stand in the pulpits of what is called church and pervert the righteous way of our God. Paul declared these are the children of the devil.
Many do not even realize this is who they are serving. They are doing what their denominations have taught them. They are learned and wise, but they are not Spirit led. They are looking for those who will follow them, instead of conducting their lives by the dictates of Christ. These are an abomination to our God. In his letter to the Thessalonians, Paul writes:
"Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more." I Thessalonians 4:1
When our walk pleases God we will abound more and more in the things of God.
"For ye know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus. For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication." I Thessalonians 4:2-3
When we are sanctified (set apart and consecrated) to our God, then we are to abstain from fornication. Yet unmarried couples living together sit in the church and nothing is said about their fornication. Paul continues:
"That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour; Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God:" I Thessalonians 4:4-5
The word concupiscence is a word we no longer use in our vocabulary. It means "to desire, a craving for those things that are forbidden by God's Word." The church of today craves and desires the same things as the Gentiles who know not God do. Paul continues:
"That no man go beyond and defraud his brother in any matter: because that the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and testified." I Thessalonians 4:6
Paul warned against defrauding (taking advantage of) a brother. This causes strife, contention, mistrust, and division. If one does these things, then the Lord will avenge (exact the penalty) on those who commit such things.
"For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness. He therefore that despiseth, despiseth not man, but God, who hath also given unto us His Holy Spirit." I Thessalonians 4:7-8
God has called us to holiness. When we walk contrary to God's Word, Paul declares it is because we despise God.
God has given us the Holy Spirit, and if we submit to His direction, we can overcome all these things God hates and despises, and our walk before Him will become more holy and righteous.
Today there are many divisions in the church because each denomination teaches they are the only ones walking with God. This attitude causes strife, contention, and division. All claim to be part of the body of Christ, yet their actions and attitudes are in direct contradiction to the Word of God.
Paul asked the church at Colossi, "Is Christ divided?" Many times Paul warned against the division seen in the church system today. Paul begged the church:
"Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment." I Corinthians 1:10
Paul admonished the church at Corinth to all speak the same thing (the Word of God). If they were to do this, there would be no division among them. All would have the same mind and judgment. We need to ask ourselves, "What would Paul think of the church system today?" To the church at Rome, Paul wrote:
"Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them." Romans 16:17
We are to mark them who cause division, and avoid them. When they speak we are not to hear their complaint. These are workers of satan causing separation and division of what God is trying to do in His body. Paul related what God wants in His church:
"That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another." I Corinthians 12:25
There is to be no schism (division) in the body of Christ. All members of His body should have the same care, one for another. Yet His church (body) is torn and fragmented because of man-made doctrines and creeds. Each church goes about sowing discord with other churches, never realizing they are an abomination to God. By the Spirit, James informs us:
"For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work." James 3:16
Those who cause envy and strife become part of every evil work that has divided God's body. This evil work continues today. This is why the church has become weak, divided, and an affront to God.
Peter, who holds the keys to the Kingdom, summed it all up as to what God desires in His church:
"Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous: Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing. For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it. For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and His ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil." I Peter 3:8-12
These are the seven things God hates:
A proud look
A lying tongue
Hands that shed innocent blood
An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations
Feet that be swift in running to mischief
A false witness that speaketh lies
And he that soweth discord among brethren.
But what are the things God desires in His church?
a people who will walk in righteousness and true holiness in his Spirit
This is all that is acceptable to God. Everything else He hates. Everything else is an abomination to Him.
May God's people look up and catch a glimpse of the path God has set before them to walk into. If we will wait upon His promises, then truly we will abound more and more unto His new day, the Kingdom of God. We need to become what God desires in His church.
