Death In The
by George Kirkpatrick
Vital Words to the Body of Christ
Freely We Have Received, Freely We Give
Years ago when this author and his wife were on the road, we traveled through the Louisiana Cajun country, we were invited to a gumbo supper, where everyone brought in something, and it was put in a huge pot to cook. Some brought whole, dressed chickens. They were put in the pot, bones and all. Others brought sausage, others beans, rice, vegetables, various kinds of beef and pork, and all this was cooked together, then seasonings and spices were added. This was all cooked together in their own juices until time for serving. The finished product was absolutely delicious. In other parts of the country, they have `hobo stew suppers' where the same thing is done. No one is quite sure what the final outcome will be, but generally it turns out OK.
The Bible is somewhat like filet gumbo or hobo stew. Everyone who comes along, puts in what they believe, which includes their own ideas, their man-made doctrines, precepts, doctrines, and creeds, until no one knows what final result will come out of the pot. This is why there are so many denominations and religions, until we end up with a gumbo mix or hobo stew as to what to believe or what is right.
There is so much false teaching that has crept into the church that people do not know what to believe anymore. There is an instance in the Bible that displays what has happened to the church. The book of Second Kings reveals the time when Elisha came to Gilgal:
"And Elisha came again to Gilgal: and there was a dearth in the land; and the sons of the prophets were sitting before him: and he said unto his servant, Set on the great pot, and seethe pottage for the sons of the prophets." II Kings 4:38
When Elisha came to Gilgal there was a dearth in the land. The word dearth is the Hebrew word RAAB and means "famine." When Elisha came to Gilgal the land was suffering from great famine, and all the sons of the prophets were sitting before Elisha, and Elisha directed his servants to put a great pot on the fire and cook some pottage for the sons of the prophets.
As we look at the symbolism of what the Lord is showing us here, we first need to look at the famine that is in the church today. The prophet Amos spoke of this famine:
"Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:" Amos 8:11
This is the day Amos was referring to. There is a great famine of the Word of God in the earth today. In the days of Elisha, he told his servants to set on a great pot. This great pot is the church system of our day, and the sons of the prophets are the true followers of Christ's teachings, and they are to be fed from the great pot.
"And one went out into the field to gather herbs, and found a wild vine, and gathered thereof wild gourds his lap full, and came and shred them into the pot of pottage: for they knew them not." II Kings 4:39
One went out to gather herbs. The word herbs is the Hebrew word OWRAH and means "light, the light of joy and happiness." When the church began, the people went out with the light of the Word in their hands. They were not filled with the doctrines of the church system. They only knew what the Word had to say. And because of this True Word, they were filled with the light of joy and happiness. These true followers of Christ's teachings spread the gospel to every land.
But some went out and found a wild vine. Those who added the fruit of the wild vine to the great pot are those who have brought their own ideas, precepts, and doctrines into the church.
"These rejected the teachings of the true vine. Jesus is the true vine. When Jesus was speaking to His disciples, He revealed: "I am the true vine, and My Father is the husbandman." John 15:1
As we continue in Second Kings we discover:
". . . and gathered thereof wild gourds his lap full, and came and shred them into the pot of pottage: for they knew them not." II Kings 4:39b
Those who found the wild vine added wild gourds to the pot. These wild gourds represent the false doctrines that have crept into the church. Those who found these wild gourds did not add the wild gourds whole into the pot. They shred them into very small, bite size pieces, so they would not be recognized as false doctrines. These false, man-made doctrines still remain in the "Pot" (the church system).
Today these false doctrines include the rapture teaching, once-saved, always-saved teaching, ultimate and universal reconciliation, Christian Science, Seventh day Adventist, and Jehovah Witness, to name a few. The church system that is full of these wild gourd teachings is the Catholic church.
There are many false teachings in the Catholic church. They call their priest, "Father." Jesus warns:
"And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven." Matthew 23:9
These priests are to remain celibant, or they are to restrain their natural reproduction urge God has put in every man. The same restraint is placed upon the nuns. The result of this religious restraint on the leaders of the Catholic church has been abortion of the unwanted children fathered by the priest and the nuns. This restraint has also caused child abuse of young men and girls by the homosexual priests and nuns. There has been much scandal in the Catholic church because of these travesties. It has cost the Catholic church millions of dollars to protect these abusers of the youth.
For centuries, Catholics could not eat meat on Friday. Now, evidently, God has changed His mind. Now they can eat meat. They overlook the Scripture:
"Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever." Hebrews 13:8
In the Old Testament, we find this same message:
"For I am the Lord, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed." Malachi 3:6
The Catholics have their beads which they count and repeat `Hail Mary' over and over again. This is supposed to be offered up as prayers. Jesus warns against this also:
"But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking." Matthew 6:7
These are just some of the wild gourds that have been shredded into the church system pot.
Looking again at this wild vine, we discover it has its roots deep in the earth. We also discover the wild vine is only a branch of this earth bound root. Thus, the only connection this wild vine has is to the earth.
We see the application of this earth bound root in the wild olive tree. In his letter to the Romans, Paul wrote about the wild olive tree. Paul explains the difference between the wild vine and the wild olive tree:
"For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches. And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree:" Romans 11:16-17
Paul writes about God's holy people being `a lump'. This refers to the act of making bread where all the ingredients are mixed and kneaded together into one loaf. Jesus explained how He is going to make up His lump. To the religious system of His day, Jesus proclaimed:
"And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder." Matthew 21:44
Anyone who falls upon this stone, or the Cornerstone which is Jesus Christ, will be broken. When we are called to repentance, we are broken. This causes us to confess our sin and ask forgiveness of our sin. This is a humbling and broken experience.
But, when the Headstone or Christ Jesus falls upon us, it grinds us to powder or flour. This is when God deals with the old, adam nature in all of us who are called to be His. When this work is complete there is nothing left of the old sin nature. We will have become God's new creation man who is created in righteousness and true holiness.
Paul explains God's two Israels. First, he explains about the branches that were broken off. This is ancient or natural Israel.
The second Israel is the wild olive tree which are the Gentile nations, who come by the way of the cross and are ground to powder (flour). This is Spiritual Israel.
As we observe, this wild olive tree is grafted into the root of the olive tree. The root of the olive tree is Christ Jesus. Praise the Lord, now the wild olive tree is no longer part of root bound to the earth. Their stem now draws its life from the root of Christ. Paul continues:
"Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee. Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be graffed in. Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear:" Romans 11:18-20
As Paul proclaims, ancient or natural Israel were broken off from the root because of their unbelief. Ancient, or natural Israel have the same opportunity as the Gentile nations, to once again be grafted back into their natural root, by coming by the way of the cross. Paul explains this to the church at Rome:
"For if the casting away of them be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving of them be, but life from the dead?" Romans 11:15
Natural Israel is dead because they have rejected Christ. But the branches that were broken off can again receive life by recognizing Christ as their Messiah.
As we look again at the pot Elisha set on the fire to feed the sons of the prophets, we observe:
"So they poured out for the men to eat. And it came to pass, as they were eating of the pottage, that they cried out, and said, O thou man of God, there is death in the pot. And they could not eat thereof." II Kings 4:40
When the church puts out their watered-down, tainted sermons with their precepts and man-made false doctrines, then the sons of the prophets, who have Spiritual direction in their lives, cannot partake of this religious mess. They cry out, "There is death in the pot!"
Those who have Spiritual understanding of the Word of God are able to recognize the false teachings of the shredded pieces of gourd that have been added to the pot, and the sons of the prophets are coming out of the church system by the droves.
They know if they partake of these false doctrines and teachings, it will bring forth their Spiritual death. And, indeed, many in the church system today are starving for the true Word of God. If these do not come out from among these false teachings they too, as natural Israel, will be broken off from the root that produces life. Anything that does not produce life will bring forth Spiritual death. The prophet Jeremiah prophesied what has happened to the church:
"For the pastors are become brutish, and have not sought the Lord: therefore they shall not prosper, and all their flocks shall be scattered." Jeremiah 10:21
The pastors of the religious system have become brutish. The word brutish means "stupid, dull hearted, and unreceptive." They have not sought the Lord. They get their messages from the Christian book store or by mail order. And because of this, their flocks are scattered. The people are leaving the churches by droves, and all wonder why. Jeremiah explains:
"Many pastors have destroyed My vineyard, they have trodden My portion under foot, they have made My pleasant portion a desolate wilderness." Jeremiah 12:10
These pastors who do not seek the Lord have made the church a desolate wilderness because they have placed themselves and their needs above the needs of the flock, and have trodden down the people. Jeremiah goes on to explain:
"Woe be unto the pastors that destroy and scatter the sheep of My pasture! Saith the Lord. Therefore thus saith the Lord God of Israel against the pastors that feed My people; Ye have scattered My flock, and driven them away, and have not visited them: behold, I will visit upon you the evil of your doings, saith the Lord." Jeremiah 23:1-2
God has not turned a blind eye to these pastors. He will deal with them very harshly.
But, praise the Lord, Jeremiah gives God's elect hope:
"And I will give you pastors according to Mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding." Jeremiah 3:15
God has promised to give His people pastors who are after His own heart, pastors that are filled with knowledge and understanding of His Word, who serve God and His people with their whole heart. These pastors will have the Spirit of wisdom and understanding. These pastors will have walked through the fire of being tried and tested, having been proved to be steadfast to the true teachings of the Word of life.
Elisha observed the sons of the prophets, who stated:
". . . there is death (poison) in the pot."
Yes, praise God, there are true prophets and pastors today proclaiming , "There is death in the pot!"
Elisha called out to his servants with the answer:
". . . bring meal. And he cast it into the pot; and he said, Pour out for the people, that they may eat. And there was no harm in the pot." II Kings 4:41
Elisha told his servants to bring meal. The word meal in this verse means "flour." Where would Elisha's servants find this flour that will heal the poison in the pot? There is only one group that can heal the poison of false teaching and man-made doctrines in the church. These are those who have allowed the headstone to fall upon them and grind them to a fine flour. These are the pastors God is raising up in the wilderness, who have been hidden, and rejected by the church system. These have been called many names: kooks, Bible thumpers, alarmists, doomsday prophets, and many other names because they have warned the people to prepare their lives for the coming day of judgment.
In the mean time, those who have been ground to powder (flour) are continually filling themselves with the Word, and living their lives by the direction of the Holy Spirit.
When Elisha's servants poured the meal flour into the pot, he then told them:
". . . pour out for the people, that they may eat. And there was no harm in the pot." II Kings 4:41b
When God's pastors which He is preparing in the wilderness pour out the true Word of God, there will no longer be any death in the pot, and there will no longer be any famine. Amos declared:
"And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the Word of the Lord, and shall not find it." Amos 8:12
This is what is happening today. God's people are going from church to church looking for the true Word of God, and they cannot find it. But all this will change when God's judgments are in the earth. We have God's promise from the pen of Isaiah:
"With my soul have I desired Thee in the night; yea, with my spirit within me will I seek Thee early: for when Thy judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness." Isaiah 26:9
God's judgments are on the horizon. His judgments will fall upon this wicked nation, and its people. The world believes they are getting away with their sin, their mocking God, their lust, their greed, and their crooked ways, but God's judgment will change all that. The big mega churches will sit empty. Their pastors will weep and mourn and gnash their teeth when they realize they have robbed God's people of their eternal inheritance. It is then they will realize there was death in the messages they tickled the ears of the people with.
But God will raise up righteous leaders, who as Josiah, will cleanse God's temple and set up righteousness in the land. Josiah was only eight years old when he was made king over Israel. Josiah was the grandson of Manasseh, and the son of Amon. Josiah's name means "he will be sustained by God." When Josiah was eighteen years old, he began to repair the temple.
In the years of Manasseh's and Amon's reign, the temple had fallen into disrepair, and was filled with great abominations against God. So Josiah set out to cleanse the temple, and restore it to its original state. When one of the high priests, Hilkiah, was cleansing the temple he declared unto Shaphan the scribe:
". . . I have found the book of the law in the house of the Lord. And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, and he read it." II Kings 22:8
In the days of Manasseh and Amon, the Word of the law was completely lost to the people of Israel. This sounds like the church system of our day. When the pastors get up to teach, they read a Scripture, and then they proceed to talk about everything else.
When Hilkiah found the book of the law, he gave it to Shaphan, and Shaphan read it. Reading the book is the first step in the restoration of the the temple of the living God, whose temple we are.
"And Shaphan the scribe shewed the king, saying, Hilkiah the priest hath delivered me a book. And Shaphan read it before the king." II Kings 22:10
Shaphan the scribe was so excited about what he read in the book of the law, that he took it directly before King Josiah, and read it to him.
"And it came to pass, when the king had heard the words of the book of the law, that he rent his clothes." II Kings 22:11
In the Old Testament, when one rent or tore his clothes, it was a sign of repentance. Josiah knew his heart was not right before God. Yes, he was attempting to do God a favor by repairing His temple, but Josiah knew his heart was not right before His God.
Too many of his father Amon's ideas and ways were still in Josiah's heart. Josiah knew all the old ideas and ways of his father had to be dealt with before he could have a pure heart toward God. What did Josiah learn from the book of the law? He informed Shaphan:
"Go ye, enquire of the Lord for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found: for great is the wrath of the Lord that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not hearkened unto the words of this book, to do according unto all that which is written concerning us." II Kings 22:13
Josiah did what was proper. He sent Shaphan to inquire of the Lord. Josiah knew the wrath of God was about to be poured out upon the people because their fathers had not listened to the words of the book. They had gone their own way, did their own thing, and now God's wrath was about to be poured out upon their way.
How like today! The leaders of this nation, as in the days of Manasseh and Amon have turned their backs upon God, and have cheated and lied to the people for so long they believe they are above the people and above God Himself. And if they do not repent, then they, too, will be dealt with - - - without mercy.
The Word of the Lord came back to Josiah:
"Thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, and upon the inhabitants thereof, even all the words of the book which the king of Judah hath read:" II Kings 22:16
There have been many prophets who have spoken this same message to this nation and to the world. God is going to send His judgment because they have rejected God and His Word. The word of the Lord was:
"Because they have forsaken Me, and have burned incense unto other gods, that they might provoke Me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore My wrath shall be kindled against this place, and shall not be quenched." II Kings 22:17
When a nation and a people turn their backs on God, and offer their worship and praise to the gods of the flesh, and worship the works of their own hands, God's wrath will be kindled against that country and its people; and it will not be quenched or extinguished. God warned His ancient people, Israel:
"If I whet My glittering sword, and Mine hand take hold on judgment; I will render vengeance to Mine enemies, and will reward them that hate Me." Deuteronomy 32:41
God has not changed. When people turn their back on Him, mock Him, and degrade His Word, there is no turning back God's anger.
When Josiah heard the words Hilkiah and his party brought to him, he rent his clothes, and wept before the Lord. God made Josiah a promise:
"Because thine heart was tender, and thou hast humbled thyself before the Lord, when thou heardest what I spake against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and hast rent thy clothes, and wept before Me; I also have heard them, saith the Lord. Behold therefore, I will gather thee unto thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered into thy grave in peace; and thine eyes shall not see all the evil which I will bring upon this place. And they brought the king word again." II Kings 22:19-20
God makes this same promise today to all those who are repentant before the Lord because of the sins of this nation and their people. This is God's promise to those who have a repentant heart:
"Therefore thus saith the Lord God, Behold, My servants shall eat, but ye shall be hungry: behold, My servants shall drink, but ye shall be thirsty: behold, My servants shall rejoice, but ye shall be ashamed: Behold, My servants shall sing for joy of heart, but ye shall cry for sorrow of heart, and shall howl for vexation of spirit. And ye shall leave your name for a curse unto My chosen: for the Lord God shall slay thee, and call His servants by another name:" Isaiah 65:13-15
What a promise to God's faithful. God will take care of His own, no matter what He brings upon the earth. It is the wicked who will suffer God's wrath, not His people.
Josiah wanted all the people to hear the words of the book:
"And the king went up into the house of the Lord, and all the men of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem with him, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the people; both small and great: and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant which was found in the house of the Lord." II Kings 23:2
We know this was the churches' job to teach the people God's Word, but the church has failed to do this. Instead, they have told the people pretty stories to keep them coming and giving.
Josiah was one of the few good kings, Israel had:
"And the king stood by a pillar, and made a covenant before the Lord, to walk after the Lord, and to keep His commandments and His testimonies and His statutes with all their heart and all their soul, to perform the words of this covenant that were written in this book. And all the people stood to the covenant." II Kings 23:3
Josiah and the people made a covenant with God to keep His commandments, His testimonies, and all His statutes with all their hearts, and to perform all the words of the covenant God made with His people. So Josiah began to cleanse the nation of all the idolatrous things which had kept them in sin. And he started with the temple of God:
"And the king commanded Hilkiah the high priest, and the priests of the second order, and the keepers of the door, to bring forth out of the temple of the Lord all the vessels that were made for Baal, and for the grove, and for all the host of heaven: and he burned them without Jerusalem in the fields of Kidron, and carried the ashes of them unto Bethel." II Kings 23:4
Josiah had Hilkiah bring all the vessels for the worship of Baal out of the temple, and destroy them in the fields of Kidron.
You may say, the church does not worship Baal today. Baal was the god of increase. Today the prosperity message is taught as the way God blesses His people. Prosperity is nothing more than the worship of Baal. Josiah knew, that if God's hand of judgment was to be stayed, then the worship of Baal had to be removed from God's temple.
The same is true today. Those who want the world's prosperity need to repent. Josiah took all these things of the worship of Baal outside of Jerusalem, and burnt them to ashes. Josiah had only begun:
"And he put down the idolatrous priests, whom the kings of Judah had ordained to burn incense in the high places in the cities of Judah, and in the places round about Jerusalem; them also that burned incense unto Baal, to the sun, and to the moon, and to the planets, and to all the host of heaven." II Kings 23:5
Josiah dealt with the idolatrous priests who had been ordained by the former kings to burn incense in the high places. These priests were the main force to worship Israel's false gods. They had set groves, not only in Jerusalem, but all around Jerusalem. These groves were set up to worship different gods. There were priests appointed to worship each of these false gods.
You may say this is not in the church today. But it is the pastors who have their pet false doctrines. They have made concerted efforts to get as many people believing these false doctrines as they can. This is all they teach.
Josiah stated these idolatrous priests burned incense to Baal, to the sun, the moon, the planets, and all the host of heaven. Burning incense represents worship. These idolatrous priests not only worshiped Baal, but they were involved in astrology. Many in the church system today follow their astrology charts, while they worship the gods of prosperity.
Josiah continued his cleansing of the land of the abominations before His God:
"And he brake down the houses of the sodomites, that were by the house of the Lord, where the women wove hangings for the grove." II Kings 23:7
Ancient Israel reminds us so much of the United States. Israel had a problem with the sodomites. The leaders of Israel failed to deal with this abomination before God. Sodomites choose to be called `gay' or `homosexual'. Whatever they are called, it is still sin in the eyes of God.
The Roman Empire had this same problem. Most of the leadership were sodomites. This was one of the main curses that caused the fall of the Roman Empire. When Paul wrote to the church at Rome, he addressed this sin:
"For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;" Romans 1:18
God's wrath will be poured out upon all unrighteousness and ungodliness. We can be assured of that fact. Paul continues:
"Because that, when they knew God, they glorified Him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became, fools, Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:" Romans 1:21-24
By God's Word, we know sodomites dishonor their own bodies between themselves. Those who practice this ungodly lifestyle profess themselves to be wise. But as Paul writes, they have become fools, and their foolish hearts (minds) have become darkened.
"For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:" Romans 1:26
The natural use of a woman's body was to procreate, or have children. Lesbianism cannot produce children. They can only enjoy their sensual, sexual experience.
"And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet." Romans 1:27
Sodomites have left the natural use of the woman, and burned in their lust with other sodomites. But God has promised they will receive recompense for the error of their ways:
"And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;" Romans 1:28
God turned the sodomites, lesbians, transvestites, and all others who engage in homosexual activities over to reprobate minds. Josiah broke down the sodomite houses. And we can be assured it was made clear to the sodomites they were no longer welcome in Israel. Today in Washington D.C. many of those who are elected to high office are sodomites. If they are not sodomites themselves, they give place to this most abominable sin.
Josiah cleaned house, beginning with the temple of God. He cut down the groves, and broke down the sodomites' houses. What this nation, and all the world needs is leaders like Josiah who will make a covenant with God to rule in righteousness, instead of greed, lust, and corruption, who live their lives and rule by the Word of God. Of course this will not happen until God's judgment is complete and He reestablishes His Kingdom on earth. Jesus foretold this day in His revelation to John:
"And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of His Christ; and He shall reign for ever and ever." Revelation 11:15
His Christ (His anointed) are those who have dealt with their old flesh nature, and live their lives by the Word of God, and by the direction of the Holy Spirit. These are those who will rule and reign with Him in the coming one thousand year millennium. These will reign in righteousness.
In his letter to the Ephesians, Paul writes about Christ's expectations for His church. He informs the husbands:
"Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave Himself for it. That He might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the Word, that He might present it to Himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish." Ephesians 5:25-27
The church is to cleanse itself with the water of the Word. We are all aware of the power of water to cleanse. Israel learned this lesson in their wilderness journey.
"So Moses brought Israel from the Red Sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness, and found no water. And when they came to Marah, they could not drink of the waters of Marah, for they were bitter: therefore the name of it was called Marah." Exodus 15:22-23
When Israel came to the waters of Marah, they could not drink of this water because it was bitter. We need to note, the water was not poisoned, it was only bitter to the taste of the people. How like the words of the Bible are to many today. When God speaks of the changes required in their lives to serve Him, they simply state, "We cannot drink of this water. It is bitter to our fleshly way of life. And they refuse to drink of the water of the words of life. When Israel murmured and complained to Moses:
". . . He cried unto the Lord; and the Lord shewed him a tree, which when he had cast into the waters, the waters were made sweet: there he made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there he proved them." Exodus 15:25
When Moses cried unto the Lord, the Lord showed Moses a tree. And when Moses cast this tree into the water, the water was made sweet. What was this tree Moses cast into the water?
"And out of the ground made the Lord God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil." Genesis 2:9
God caused every tree that was pleasant to His sight to grow in the garden, the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. These two trees grow in every life of the believers today. Which tree do we choose to eat from? One will make the water of the Word sweet in our lives. The other is what makes the water bitter. Adam and Eve chose the wrong one, and it brought forth death. The same is true today. The tree God showed Moses was The Tree of Life. This is the same tree God showed John on the Isle of Patmos:
"He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God." Revelation 2:7
Those who are listening to what the Spirit is saying to the churches will be given the right to eat of the tree of life which is in the midst of the paradise of God. Man will be given the same chance that was given to Adam and Eve. They can eat of the tree of life and live, or they can eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and die spiritually. But when man partakes of the knowledge of good and evil, it is mixed fruit. This is what is in the church system today, a gumbo or hobo stew mixture. This is why there is death in the pot.
But, praise the Lord, when God's people partake of the tree of life, then the river of life will flow through them. Jesus related:
"In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations." Revelation 22:2
The tree of life will produce twelve fruits in our life. These twelve fruits are: love, joy, peace, longsuffering, temperance, gentleness, goodness, faith meekness, patience, lowliness and righteousness. These are produced every month in our lives. And the leaves are what the tree of life produces for the healing of the nations.
When Israel partook of the waters made sweet by the tree, God made a statute and an ordinance for them, and there He proved them, Exodus 15:25c. God made statutes (decrees) and ordinances (judgments) to prove (test) Israel. And God informed Israel what they should do:
"And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God, and wilt do that which is right in His sight, and wilt give ear to His commandments, and keep all His statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the Lord that healeth thee." Exodus 15:26
Israel was to hearken to the voice of the Lord their God, and do what was right in His sight, and hear His commandments, and keep all His statutes (decrees). Then God's promises were that Israel would not suffer the diseases of Egypt (the world). What promises God has made to His people if they will only listen! Jesus revealed this same message to John:
"Blessed are they that do His commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city." Revelation 22:14
Those who obey His commandments have their right to the Tree of Life. Is Jesus speaking of the Ten Commandments only? No, He is speaking of all His commandments in His Word. Jesus spoke through the pen of John:
"If ye keep My commandments, ye shall abide in My love; even as I have kept My Father's commandments, and abide in His love. Ye are My friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you." John 15:10 & 14
We can become the friend of God by keeping all His commandments. Then we will not suffer the diseases of the world, and the twelve fruit of the Spirit will be evident in our lives. The all-wise Solomon understood these truths. He proclaimed:
"The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise." Proverbs 11:30
When we have the fruit of righteousness in our life, then we, too, can become a tree of life. Solomon also wrote:
"A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit." Proverbs 15:4
Our tongue can be a tree of life, but our tongue can also speak death, sickness, and tragedy. Solomon also declared:
"Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof." Proverbs 18:21
We will eat the fruit of what our tongue speaks. We can speak life, or we can speak death. We can partake of the tree of life, or eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, the mixed fruit. What pot are you eating from? Are you eating of the pot where the meal (flour) has been added or the pot that contains death, where the mixed fruit is all thrown together with false teachings and false doctrines? As God's people were admonished by Joshua:
"And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." Joshua 24:15
Choose you this day who you are going to serve. Joshua chose to serve the Lord for his whole household. Today, men need to once again become the head of their households, and become an example to us, as to what God intends him to be. God is looking for a people who will follow His voice and keep His commandments, so He can call us, Friend.
The prophet Zechariah spoke of the day that is directly ahead of us:
"Yea, every pot in Jerusalem and in Judah shall be holiness unto the Lord of hosts: and all they that sacrifice shall come and take of them, and seethe therein: and in that day there shall be no more the Canaanite in the house of the Lord of hosts." Zechariah 14:21
Every person needs to decide which pot they are going to eat from:
from the pot that is filled with death
or the pot that contains life.
We are promised by God in that day the Canaanite will no longer be in the church. The word Canaanite means "trafficker or merchant." God will rid His church of those who have made merchandise of His people. The prosperity message and all other false doctrines will no longer be taught in the church.
Once the meal (flour) is cast into the pot, only the True Word of God will be taught and accepted. Praise the Lord!
