The Divine Disturber
Excerps from an artilce by Wade Taylor
The Lord has many names and fills many roles. One of these being "The Divine Disturber". Many times and in unique ways, the Lord disturbs us to attract our attention in order to turn our hearts toward Him. I have often seen the Lord at work in this role within my life, and at times misread it. When I finally caught on to what was taking place and turned to the Lord, He was there, as the Divine Disturber.
"For whom the Lord loveth He chasteneth" Hebrews 12:6a
"I love them that love Me: and those that seek Me early shall find Me. . . that I may cause those that love Me to inherit substance; and I will fill their treasures". Proverbs 8:17,21
Part of the work of the Divine Disturber is to draw our attention away from the temporal to the eternal. This is true of Isaiah, who had found fulfillment in the throne of Uzziah.
"In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and His train filled the temple. Above it stood the seraphim's: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly. And one cried unto another and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts: the whole earth is full of His glory." Isaiah 6:1-3
The Lord had been active in the life and ministry of Isaiah before this event. The first five chapters of Isaiah contain profound revelations. But the Lord desired to be singularly at the center of the life and interest of Isaiah. Therefore through intervention, He brought him from the good to the best. Had the Lord not intervened in Isaiah's life, he would have remained in a lesser realm; and we might have been deprived of the depth of revelation that he received, especially Isaiah 53. He had to turn from the things upon which he had relied and trusted, that he might be stirred to seek the Lord. Each one of us depends upon many things and therein are satisfied. But when this arrangement is disturbed, we begin to seek the Lord. It is not that the Lord is dealing harshly with us, but rather, He disturbs us only to the extent that His purpose will be accomplished.
"Doth the plowman plow all day to sow? Doth he open and break the clods of his ground? When he hath made plain the face thereof, doth he not cast abroad the fitches, and scatter the cummin, and cast in the principal wheat and the appointed barley and the rie in their place?" Isaiah 28:24-25
As the Divine Disturber, the Lord only "plows" in our lives until we are ready to receive the greater thing. His chastenings and dealings are for a purpose, and they end when that purpose is accomplished. There are those whom the Lord would like to disturb, but is unable to do so because they are not ready to trust Him.
"For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them." Ephesians 2:10
A problem cannot be dealt with until it is exposed. The Lord is the Master workman who is perfecting us. When the Lord took Uzziah out of Isaiah's life, the earthly throne became vacant. In this time of loss, Isaiah looked up and swaw the Lord upon a higher Throne. He had been looking to Uzziah, which was good, but the Lord had something better. Many of us are so satisfied with the good, that the Lord must intervene in order to cause us to seek the better. We settle for the good, rather than push beyond to the best.
The Lord, as a Disturber, will come into our life and create a circumstance in which we suddenly realize our need. The Lord is the workman who ever arranges these situations. The Seraphim are the messengers who will accomplish the outworking of this higher purpose. The six wings speak of the activity on various levels, to bring up up into the place where the Lord will have us.
"With twain they covered their head"
Christ Jesus is the head, and we are to submit every thought to Him.
"With twain they covered their feet"
We are to submit our walk to Him, and begin to walk in the Spirit
"And with twain they did fly"
Now we are ready to come up into His higher purpose for us.
"They cried one to another and said, "Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Lord of hosts, the whole earth is full of His glory."
As they worshiped, the house was filled with His glory (smoke). In the reflection of this glory, Isaiah saw himself, and cried out, "Woe is me." We will never fully realize our need until we come into the presence of His glory. Deep, true repentance will only come as we see ourselves in the reflection of His glorious presence.
Jesus always dealt with the heart. The Sermon on the Mount is the measure of the "Overcomer" who has met the Lord at the issue of the heart. The Lord is seeking out a people whom He can take into the deeper place where He might have a people prepared for a higher purpose.
In the Charismatic visitation, the Baptism in the Holy Spirit became a common denominator, everyone was speaking in tongues. But there is something more. John the Baptist said,
"And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance. But He that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoe I am not worthy to bear: He shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire. Whose fan is in His hand, and He will throughly purge His floor and gather His wheat into the garner; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire." Matthew 3:10-12
This visitation of fire is yet to come, in which the issues of the heart will be dealt with, but come they must.
Then flew one of the Seraphim unto me having a live coal in his hand which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar and laid it upon my mouth, and lo this hath touched my lips". Isaiah 6:6-7
The Charismatic visitation stopped with tongues, but we must go beyond to the "fire". It is only in His Shekinah fire that we will truly see ourselvs and open the door to the Divine Disturber, that we might be perfected for a higher purpose.
