Elijah

God spoke and said there will be no more rain. This was the Word of the Lord for that hour. Elijah was on the cutting edge of what God was doing. When God spoke through Elijah to the wicked King Ahab, God put Elijah in the forefront. This was his public ministry. This public ministry lasted only a short time, and God then told Elijah to hide by the brook. Elijah was hid away in obscurity in helpless dependence of God. This is always the pattern for prophetic people. God let Elijah drink from the brook and commanded the ravens to feed him. This was part of his training. Elijah could have been in depression over his so-called lack of ministry. Satan could have whispered, "Look at all those television preachers, or pastors of great churches. Everyone knows their name. Where are you Elijah? Hiding by a brook Who knows your name?' The truth was that God knew Elijah's name and where he was. Elijah was directly in the center of God's will. In this time of supernatural provision God was getting Elijah ready for the next step in his ministry. This led to the brook drying up. What Elijah had depended on for provision (the brook) had dried up.
Are there things we depend upon that need to die in our life? If we are to go on in our prophetic walk God will allow this to happen. This resulted in Elijah moving to the widows house in Zarepath. At Zarepath God used a widow's mite to sustain them both. God was working in two areas. One was on the pride in Elijah's life. This had to die. He had to ask a widow woman to give her last bit of food to him. What crucifixion of the flesh will God ask of his prophetic people. What things will have to die in our life? The other area was obedience in the widow's heart. If each had not been willing to follow God they both would have perished. I believe the day of the big name ministry is coming to a close. God is raising up a prophetic people who will be hid in a corporate anointing. This will bring honor to God and fulfill his last day prophetic purpose. Just as these two had to work together so will the end-time ministries.
God gave Elijah the assignment to anoint Elisha to be prophet in his stead, I Kings 19:16. Elijah knew he must submit to the will of God and surrender his ministry to another. The time of his departure was at hand and he wanted to make the transition as smooth as possible. Just as John the Baptist declared, "He must increase, I must decrease". We must be willing to surrender to the transition God has for us.
