Today those who have a heart for God are crying out,
How do I get closer to the Father?
Paul gives us insight to this process in his letter to Titus. The book of Titus was written just before Paul's death. Paul lived many years and endured many tribulations to come to the knowledge of who the Father was in his life. He shared this knowledge with Titus:
"Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;" Titus 3:5
If we are to draw near to God, it will not be by any works of righteousness we have accomplished for our God. We should do these works of righteousness because He has so mercifully saved us. The question we must ask then is,
How are we saved?
By asking God to forgive our sins, we have only taken the first step into God's complete salvation process. But as Paul informed Titus we are completely saved by "the washing of regeneration." Regeneration is an on-going process. As we begin to understand the regeneration process, we soon discover it is a washing and cleansing process every one must go through if they are to rule and reign with Christ in His Kingdom. The word regeneration is speaking of the new man created in righteousness and true holiness. It is a renewal process every one who names the name of Christ must go through. It consists of a radical change of mind for the better. To be regenerated is to be restored to man's pristine state. It is the restoration of man to his original place in God before the fall of Adam and Eve. God created man perfect, and He will not accept the return of man in to His presence in an unregenerated condition, no matter how many works of righteousness he has to his credit.
So how does moral man come into this regenerated condition?
Man can only come into this regeneration by the renewing power of the Holy Spirit, as he allows the cleansing power of the Holy Spirit to have complete pre-eminence in his life. We must lay down our lives, that we may live the life of Christ. When we totally yield to the Spirit of the living Christ, then we will be changed in a moment in the twinkling of an eye. We will become the Christs at His coming, a people full of the glory of the Lord. We have this glorious promise Jesus gave to His disciples:
"And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed Me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of His glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel." *** Matthew 19:28
When we come to this understanding, we can all shout out in victory,
Let the regeneration process begin!
