The Cup of God's Fury

The apostle Paul wrote to Timothy:

"This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come." *** II Timothy 3:1

We know we are in the last days because of the perilous times we live in. The prophet Jeremiah prophesied for almost forty years before the fall of Judah, trying to get the people to repent. Judah, like her sister Israel, had forsaken God to worship idols. The same is true today. God gave Jeremiah a task:

"For thus saith the Lord God of Israel unto Me; Take the wine cup of this fury at My hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send thee, to drink it." *** Jeremiah 25:15

The cup Jeremiah was given equates to the bowls of wrath Jesus showed John on the Isle of Patmos. Jeremiah was to make all the nations God would send him to, to drink of the cup. God sent Jeremiah to Jerusalem, Judah, Egypt, the Philistines, Ashkelon, Azzah, Ekron, Ashdod, Edom, Moab, Ammon, Tyrus, Zidon, Dedan, Tema, Buz, Arabia, Zimmi, and the Medes. He sent him to all the known world in Jeremiah's time. Then he included the kings of the isles which are beyond the sea. This is the new, unknown world, Jeremiah 25:22. Then Jeremiah continues to name more:

"And all the kings of the north, far and near, one with another, and all the kingdoms of the world, which are upon the face of the earth: and the king of Sheshach shall drink after them." *** Jeremiah 25:26

The kings of the far north, and all the kingdoms of the world would drink of the cup in Jeremiah's hand. Then the king of Sheshack would be required to drink. Sheshack is another name for Babylon. Babylon is the United States:

"And it shall be, if they refuse to take the cup at thine hand to drink, then shalt thou say unto them, Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Ye shall certainly drink." *** Jeremiah 25:28

There is no escape. Every nation will drink of the cup in Jeremiah's hand. What does this cup contain:

"A noise shall come even to the ends of the earth; for the Lord hath a controversy with the nations, He will plead with all flesh; He will give them that are wicked to the sword, saith the Lord. Thus saith the Lord of hosts, Behold, evil shall go forth from nation to nation, and a great whirlwind shall be raised up from the coasts of the earth. And the slain of the Lord shall be at that day from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth: they shall not be lamented, neither gathered, nor buried; they shall be dung upon the ground." *** Jeremiah 25:31-33

The coast of the earth is the sky, or outer space. The noise that comes to the ends of the earth is nuclear explosions in outer space. Russia armed outer space with nuclear weapons in 1985. When these weapons are detonated, the noise will go around and around and around the earth. As Jeremiah proclaimed:

"At the noise of the taking of Babylon the earth is moved, and the cry is heard among the nations." *** Jeremiah 50:46

The evil that goes from nation to nation will be nuclear fallout. The great whirlwind will be windstorms of 800 to 3000 miles per hour. The slain will be from one end of the earth to the other end of the earth. Yes, this is just one more warning given to a sinful, wicked, godless people to repent. We cannot stop God's judgment, but we can keep it from our door.
