ISSUE ONE
The Old Testament gives us many examples of God's chosen children. Samuel
is a good example of one of God's chosen children. But the story of Samuel
tells also of Eli's sons, young men who were not ministering before the Lord
in the calling of their father.
"Wherefore the sin of the young men (Eli's sons) was very great before the
Lord: for men abhorred the offering of the Lord. But Samuel ministered before
the Lord, being a child, girded with a linen ephod." I Samuel 2:17-18
Whereas the young men in Samuel's day were abounding in the sins of Belial,
Samuel was abounding in grace. He didn't let the sins of the young men persuade
him to sin also.
"And the child Samuel grew on, and was in favor both with the Lord, and also
with men." I Samuel 2:26
Praise the Lord! Samuel was GROWING and GOING ON
"As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the Word, that may grow thereby."
I Peter 2:2
Is it your desire to become as a newborn babe in Christ?
Is it your desire to drink of the sincere milk of the Word,
Sin - cere milk is milk without sin.
The word sincere means "pure, honest, truthful, genuine, real". The
sincere milk of God's Word will show us what is pleasing to the Lord, and
what is not pleasing.
"And the child Samuel grew, and was in favour with the Lord, and also with
men."I Samuel 2:26
The New Testament tells us of Jesus our example. Jesus was also a chosen
child. Luke tells us that at the age of 12, Jesus was found in favour with
God and man.
"And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man."
Luke 2:52
The word grace means "favour; that which affords joy, reassurance, delight,
sweetness, charm, and loveliness". We live in a time where sin is abounding
all over the world. We see the sins of the young men are very great. Young
men are killing young men. The book of Genesis tells of the people in that
day:
"And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that
every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
And it repented the Lord that He had made man on the earth, and it grieved
His heart. And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from
the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and creeping thing, and the fowls
of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them". Genesis 6:5-7
All that was on the people's minds was only evil continually, never showing
joy and kindness to those around them. The Lord was grieved in His heart
because of the great evil. How much do you think God grieves when He sees
our young men killing other young men and women? But praise the Lord there
was a "Noah".
"But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord." Genesis 6:8
The Lord destroyed man in Noah's time because of all the wickedness. Judgment
is near today because the wickedness of man is great in the earth. Noah had
found favour with the Lord, just as Samuel and Jesus. We have many examples
in the Bible where men's and women's lives found favour with God. The question
is,
"Will we find favour with God when judgment comes?"
"When a man's ways please the Lord, He maketh even his enemies to be at peace
with him." Proverbs 16:7
