Put Off Wrath
"But now ye also put off all these: anger, wrath, malice . . ." Colossians
3:8a
The first thing Paul said to put off is anger. If we don't deal with our
anger, then comes wrath. The second thing Paul said to put off is wrath.
The word wrath means "fierceness, indignation, anger, forthwith boiling up."
We need to lay aside wrath before we begin to boil. When we become heated
up, all we're going to do is hurt. We will end up hurting those that are
around us, and those we love.
"Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do
evil. For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the Lord,
they shall inherit the earth." Psalm 37:8-9
We can never justify our wrath. David calls it evil. David also said evil
doers shall be cut off. Instead, David tells us to wait upon the Lord. When
you feel yourself becoming heated up and about ready to boil, don't blow
up, WAIT!
You need to get alone, and cool down with the water of God's Word. Drink
in His water and cool your heated feelings.
"Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place to wrath: for
it is written, Vengeance is mine: I will repay, saith the Lord. Therefore
if thine enemy hunger feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in doing
so thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. Be not overcome of evil, but
overcome evil with good." Romans 12:19-21
Wait upon the Lord. Let the Lord bring forth judgment. All we can do is make
things worse. Man cannot control his wrath. We would become like Cain, and
slay our brothers and sisters. PUT OFF WRATH! from Keith Huff
Am I My Brother's
Keeper?
To be your brother's keeper you need to have a relationship with him. You
need to love your brother and respect him. Hebrews 13:1 says:
"Let brotherly love continue"
The first thing in becoming your brother's keeper is to tell him how you
feel about him and what he is doing. When we become our brother's keeper,
we are tending him and feeding him as a shepherd does his sheep. Then we
start to care for him and be a shepherd as Christ was.
Our brother is our companion and friend. We are to make a bond between us
and our brother by associating with him and showing him that we care enough
to direct him in the way he ought to go. For example, Jeremiah 9:4 says to
take heed because your brother will supplant and your neighbor will walk
with slander. We need to be careful of our brother, and try to persuade him
to turn from his evil ways so he, too, will become the Lord's servant. Only
after this can we say,
"I Am My Brother's Keeper!"
