ISSUE THIRTEEN
The Knowledge of Our Lord
"My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected
knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to Me: seeing
thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children."
Hosea 4:6
God made it plain why His people are destroyed: not because of the lack of
education, but because of the lack of knowledge of Jesus Christ our Lord.
"Ye therefore beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest
ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own
steadfastness. But grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour
Jesus Christ. To Him be glory both now and for ever. Amen." II Peter
3:17-18
Peter tells us to beware lest we be led away with the error of the wicked.
The wicked have no desire to really get to know who Christ is, because when
they get close He convicts them of the sin in their lives. We, as true Christ
ones, want God to convict us of our sins so we can get closer and grow in
our Lord.
Verse 18 tells us to grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour
Jesus Christ.
Hosea 4:6 said, " . . . because thou hast rejected knowledge. . ." God's
people reject knowing Him everyday. They reject Him in their homes, in their
places of work, in their schools, in almost everything they do. Oh, they
may go to church on Sunday, but they have no knowledge of Him the rest of
the week; and because they reject Him, he will reject them.
Part of Hosea 4:6 says, " . . . they will be no priest to Me . . ." God won't
use those who reject Him to minister --- not to Him or His people --- not
even their worship will be accepted.
Christ wants His people to seek Him out so they can know Him. If you've ever
lost something that really meant a lot to you, you search diligently until
you find it. Search out Christ the same way. Don't stop until you know Him
fully! Don't reject the knowledge of Christ Jesus our Lord.
Jesus is setting His people free. He came and died on the cross to pay for
the sins of all mankind --- ours as well as all men.
"While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of
corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.
For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge
of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and
overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. For it had
been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after
they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.
But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned
to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the
mire." II Peter 2:19-21
When we have once been set free, then we are free if we continue to go on
and know the Lord more and more, but if we become entangled again with the
sin and things we left behind, then our latter end will be worse then if
we had never known the Lord at all. It would have been better not to have
known at all. And just like a dog that throws up, then licks up its own vomit,
those who reject the Lord go back to the filth of the world. Even though
this sounds disgusting, that's what the Bible says because that is how disgusting
it is to the Lord for His people to reject Him and go back to the world.
How far have you come? Don't stop, but go all the way. Learn more about your
Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Some thoughts on a few Scriptures
"God is jealous, and the Lord revengeth; the Lord revengeth, and is furious;
the Lord will take vengeance on His adversaries, and He reserveth wrath for
His enemies. The Lord is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not
at all acquit the wicked: the Lord hath His way in the whirlwind and in the
storm, and the clouds are the dust of His feet." Nahum 1:2-3
God is very powerful. We will always want to be on His side, not just because
we are afraid, but because we have a one-on-one relationship with God. When
we have a one-on-one relationship with God, He helps us fight for what is
His.
"The appearance of them is as the appearance of horses; and as horsemen,
so shall they run. Like the noise of chariots on the tops of the mountains
shall they leap, like the noise of a flame of fire that devoureth the stubble,
as a strong people set in battle array. Before their face the people shall
be much pained: all faces shall gather blackness. They shall run like mighty
men; they shall climb the wall like men of war; and they shall march every
one on his ways, and they shall not break their ranks:" Joel 2:4-7
God will make us strong and mighty so that no one can stand against us. We
will be strong against satan. The spiritual battle is usually what we will
have to fight. This is why we need to be in God's Word daily so we can have
a spiritual come-back. God will help us fight, but when He helps us, we have
to be careful not to give credit to ourselves. We will be fast runners in
God's Word. We will climb mountains in faith. We will walk in one in the
church of God.
"Therefore My people shall know My name: therefore they shall know in
that day that I am He that doth speak: behold, it is I." Isaiah 52:6
We must know God when He call's, because in that day if we do not seek God
we shall not find Him.
