Spiritually
What Does It Mean To Me?By James Stengel
Spiritually is to develop a oneness with self and God, that brings us inner peace. This is not something that we reach or get to an end of --- but something we continually seek and let our self manifest in repeatedly. The more we seek our spiritual self and develop our relationship with a power greater than ourselves the more we make sin an unwelcome guest in our lives. God, the Holy Spirit, will never turn His back on us. But we turn our backs on Him when we sin and enter into darkness. The Holy Spirit cannot and will not dwell in darkness. The Holy Spirit is light --- if we choose to walk in the Spirit, He will draw near to us and us to Him.
Since our spirit is only one part of our self --- Spirit / Soul / Body --- many people deny their spiritual self and live only in the flesh. This is the way of the world --- to live for fleshly things --- money, material things, self-centeredness, etc. Consequently, we find ourselves walking in darkness and not even knowing it. When something bad happens in our lives and we cry out to God, we find no answer because there was no relationship for His communication. We have been living in darkness where the holy Spirit does not dwell. We find ourselves living in the ways of the world that seemed right at the time, but there was no light --- only darkness.
We are not to be conformed to the ways of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of the mind. We must fill our minds with God's Word. The flesh profits nothing. It is the Spirit who gives life (Light). The words that Jesus speaks to us are Spirit, and they are life if we put His Words in our hearts and live them. We renew our minds and find ourselves walking in the Spirit.
