As we come to the end of this age, we are witnessing the fulfilling of the signs that are revealed in the Word concerning the day and the hour of Jesus' return to establish His kingdom in the earth.

Yet, we hear many proclaiming that we are not to know anything about the times and seasons. Many proclaim that even Jesus did not know the time, therefore, how are we to know? But the Word reveals that we are to know, and along with our knowing, we are to watch and pray.

As we search the Scriptures concerning this subject, we look to the words of Jesus:

"But take ye heed: behold, I have foretold you all things." Mark 13:23

This was not just a telling, but a foretelling. We are foretold all things concerning these events. The Old Testament prophets not only foretold the first coming of Jesus, but they also foretold the second coming. Israel was confounded when Jesus came the first time because they could not discern between the first coming and the second coming. As we search the Scriptures for an answer to the question: "Are WE To Know?", we will discover many truths concerning this subject.

When the subject of our knowing the times and seasons arises, many will quote:

"But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but My Father only." Matthew 24:36

"And He said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in His own power." Acts 1:7

Both scriptures state that the know-ledge of the day and hour, the times and seasons are retained in the Father. If we stopped there, it would be easy to understand why people believe we are to know nothing until Jesus' return. But as we continue to read in Acts 1:8, Jesus revealed a deep spiritual truth which we need to know and understand in this last hour of time.

"But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto Me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth." Acts 1:8

We shall receive power. What power?

In Luke 24:49, Jesus told His disciples to tarry in the city of Jerusalem until they be endued with power from on high.

"But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God." John 1:12

The power that Jesus spoke of is the power from on high. The power to become the sons of God is the same power that Jesus said we will receive when the Holy Spirit comes upon us. It is in that power that the knowledge of the times and seasons are retained. When we receive the anointing, we also receive the knowledge of the times and seasons.

Others proclaim that our Lord's return is as a thief in the night. This understanding comes from II Peter 3:10, Revelation 3:3, and I Thessalonians 5:1 & 2.

"But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up." II Peter 3:10

"Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee." Revelation 3:3

"But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night." I Thessalonians 5:1-2

So the question is: "Is Jesus coming back as a thief, where no one will know the day nor the hour, the times or seasons?"

II Peter 3:10 speaks of the day when the heaven and earth will pass away with a great noise and the elements shall melt with fervent heat. Those who are in the fire, their works being destroyed by the fire, are those whom the day has come upon as a thief. But there is a group who will know that day.

Revelation 3:3 relates that that day will come as a thief to those who are not watching; those who are not holding fast to that which they have received, not remaining in a repentant place in God.

I Thessalonians 5 makes it very clear to whom Jesus will come as a thief in the night.

"But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober." I Thessalonians 5:4-6

That day is not going to overtake the children of light; those watching and holding fast that which they have received with a repentant heart. That day will only overtake those who are walking in darkness, not watching, not being sober or serious minded.

"For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ." I Thessalonians 5:9

God has not appointed the children of light to wrath. Peter wrote that the Lord will come as a thief to those who are not watching and holding fast. The Lord will come in a time when they think not. Those are the ones who will partake of the wrath of God that is coming upon the earth. Those walking in the light will not partake of God's wrath. God has made wonderful promises to those who are walking in the light of His Word.

Jesus said, "But take ye heed: behold, I have foretold you all things." Mark 13:23

Did the prophets proclaim that we would know the day and hour, times and seasons?

"Let them bring them forth, and show us what shall happen: let them show the former things, what they be, that we may consider them, and know the latter end of them; or declare us things for to come." Isaiah 41:22

Isaiah tells us to consider the former things. The former things reveal how God dealt with Israel and His entire creation from the Garden of Eden. When His creation fell into sin, then God sent judgment. Today, if man does not turn from his sin and back to God, we know the latter end. The latter end is judgment. We can declare this judgment because we can consider the former things. We know that God is a just God. He must punish sin.

"Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them." Isaiah 42:9

God promises that before He does anything new, He will declare it to His people. He made us the same promise through Amos.

"Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but He revealeth His secret unto His servants the prophets." Amos 3:7

God will always reveal to, and through, His prophets. The whole idea of God surprising His creation, without revealing Himself and His actions, is completely foreign to the Word of God.

"Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert." Isaiah 43:19

Shall we not know what God is going to do? God has always had a people that He reveals Himself through.

"Thus saith the Lord the King of Israel, and His redeemer the Lord of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside Me there is no God. And who, as I, shall call, and shall declare it, and set it in order for Me, since I appointed the ancient people? and the things that are coming, and shall come, let them show unto them.   Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? Ye are even My witnesses. Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any." Isaiah 44:6-8

Isaiah wrote under the anointing of the Holy Spirit. To whom God calls, He will declare these things, and will set them in order for Him. God appointed the ancient people and declared the things that are coming upon them; and the ancients have declared them to us.

Verse 8 tells us not to fear. There is not one word of fear in the Bible for those who are walking in the light.

"Thus saith the Lord, the Holy One of Israel, and His Maker, Ask Me of things to come concerning My sons, and concerning the work of My hands command ye Me." Isaiah 45:11

God desires that we inquire of Him about the things concerning His sons and the works of His hands.

God also proclaimed, "Command ye Me." The word command is the Hebrew word SAWA and means "charge or to seek instructions from the greater to the lesser". It is the Father's good pleasure to give us the Kingdom. It is also His good pleasure that we understand and "know".

"Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like Me. Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all My pleasure." Isaiah 46:9-10

We are to remember the former things. God has declared the end from the beginning; the things that are not yet done. What is coming upon the earth is not a surprise to God, nor should they be to His people.

"I have even from the beginning declared it to thee; before it came to pass I showed it thee: lest thou shouldest say, Mine idol hath done them, and my graven image, and my molten image, hath commanded them. Thou hast heard, see all this; and will not ye declare it? I have shown thee new things from this time, even hidden things, and thou didst not know them. They are created now, and not from the beginning; even before the day when thou heardest them not; lest thou shouldest say, Behold, I knew them." Isaiah 48:5-7

The word created means "to initiate". What God has declared from the beginning, He is initiating now, and they are coming forth as the new things because this is the day that God has chosen to bring them to light.

Matthew 24 says that there has never been a day like this before and never will be again. God reveals that if He had made them known from the beginning, then man would have given their idols the glory for this knowledge. This is why God is revealing it now, and only through His prophets.

The new thing God is creating, or initiating, is a change in His people. It is the Day of Restoration. God is restoring praise in the heart of His people.

"This shall be written for the generation to come: and the people which shall be created shall praise the Lord." Psalms 102:18

We do not know the writer of this Psalm, but we do know it was written for this generation. God is creating a people to praise Him. Many, who are still tied to their old man-made doctrines and ideas, do not recognize the day in which we live. Jesus spoke of these in Mark 4:11

"And He said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the Kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables." Mark 4:11

God is revealing the mysteries of the Kingdom to those who have come to a place in Him where they hear the Father's voice. But those who are without, or outside, who have not come into a close, intimate relationship with God, can only relate to God and what He is doing from a theological viewpoint. [See "The Father's Voice" by George Kirkpatrick]

Jesus said, "My sheep hear My voice..." John 10:27

If we do not hear His voice, then we are not His sheep.

"These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs: but the time cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall show you plainly of the Father." John 16:25

We live in the day when we are seeing the Father plainly. The veil has been lifted and the Father is revealing Himself through the Spirit.

"Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to My gos-pel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began." Romans 16:25

God is speaking His mysteries which have been hidden from the foundation of the world, that we may know the manifold wisdom of God.  God has a people who hear with their spiritual ears, and see with their spiritual eyes, those things that God has spoken and is revealing to His people.

It is God's desire that we understand His Word. There has been an accumulation of so many study helps for us who live in this age. We have concordances, dictionaries, word studies, etc.; so that we may under-stand every word, both in the Old and New Testaments. We can understand the exact meaning of what God has spoken.

"Ye are My friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of My Father I have made known unto you." John 15:14-15

When we become obedient to the voice of God, we are no longer in the servant realm, but we have become friends of God. Abraham and Moses were the only two men in the Bible who were called  "friends of God". God's promise to us is that, if we follow His commandments, we, too, can be His friend. As His friend, He will make known all things that He hears from the Father. Jesus is seated on the right hand of the Father and is making known everything that is coming upon the earth to His prophets and to His friends.

"For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape." I Thessalonians 5:3

Paul said the sudden destruction comes as travail upon a woman. The word travail relates to labor pains in child birth. When a woman is about to bring forth a child, she does not have one labor pain and the child comes forth - - - she has many. They start far apart and get closer together until the child is birthed.

We are witnessing labor pains that are getting closer together. In Matthew 24:4, Jesus stated,

"Take heed that no man deceive you." Matthew 24:4

Then He lists 7 things to watch for in Matthew 24:5-7:

1. Many will come using the name of Christ
2. Wars and rumors of wars
3. Nation against nation
4. Kingdom against kingdom
5. Famine
6. Pestilence
7. Earthquakes

These are only the beginning of sorrows. The word sorrow is OPIN and is the same word as travail in I Thessalonians 5:3; "sorrows are birth pangs."

The world is in the time of birth pangs. We witness the things spoken of by Jesus in Matthew 24, getting closer together all the time. [See "Be Not Deceived" by George Kirkpatrick]

I Thessalonians 5:3 reveals that we are to be looking forward to sudden destruction. The word sudden is AIPHMOIOS and means "to bring the end of a sentence". This process has begun and will be completed in the fullness of time.

Peter reveals that judgment must begin at the house of God I Peter 4:17. Truly judgment has begun at the house of God. When God judges His house, the judgment on the world will follow. Just as He has revealed the judgment on His house to His prophets, so will He reveal His judgment on the world to His prophets; and to those who are obedient and are watching and praying.

The Bible reveals so many signs that we can watch for.

"Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts." II Peter 3:3

The word scoffers means "mockers". There are a multitude of scoffers today, mocking God openly. They have no fear of God, nor do they respect His holiness. Paul revealed,

"Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap." Galatians 6:7

This old world is about to reap that which it has sown. Reaping is the time of harvest. This time of harvest is coming as travail upon a woman. [See "Sowing & Reaping" by George Kirkpatrick]

One final proof that God is not going to come as a thief upon His own is with Noah. Jesus gave us the example of Noah to herald His coming.

"But as the days of Noe (Noah) were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark. And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be." Matthew 24:37-39

It may look as if no one knew the flood was coming. Jesus spoke that they knew not until the flood came and took them all away. But there were eight that the flood did not take away.  God spoke to Noah and revealed,

"For yet seven days, and I will cause it to rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights." Genesis 7:4

Noah knew the exact day that the flood would come.

Those who are watching and praying will know the day of the Lord's wrath. So, when someone says to you that we are not to know anything before it happens, you can be sure that they are not watching, nor are they praying, nor do they know the Father's voice. Those who know the Father's voice will know the day and hour if they have been watching the times and seasons.

God is not coming back as a thief to those who are not appointed to wrath - - - the children of light. Those that the flood destroyed were children of darkness. They did not know until the flood took them away. But the flood was no surprise to those on the ark.
