I do not relate the following story as an actual event, but there is a lesson we can learn from it.
There was a king that loved his people very much. He called all the wise men of his kingdom together and said, "I want all the knowledge of the world accumulated and put in order so those that I rule over can read it."
The wise men worked for 20 years and came up with all the knowledge of the world compacted into 12 volumes of books. They called the king in and the king began to read it, saying, "This is wonderful! But it is too big. The people will never read it. It needs to be condensed." So the wise men worked another 10 years and they got all the knowledge of the world down into 1 volume.
The king came in and said, "This is wonderful! But it is still too big. The people will never read it". He instructed the wise men to further condense it. They labored for another 5 years, reducing all the knowledge of the world to 1 sheet of paper.
When the King read it, he determined it was still too large. So the wise men continued to work until they reduced all the knowledge of the world into one phrase. The King came to review their work and proclaimed, "Now they can read and understand." The phrase read,
"There Ain't No Free Lunch"!
All the knowledge of the world was accumulated in that one sentence. We, as God's people, need to know this knowledge; that there is nothing free.
"But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown
in the wilderness.
Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.
Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.
Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.
Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents.
Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.
Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.
Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall." Corinthians 10:5-12
Paul was writing about Israel in the wilderness at the time of the Exodus. As we witness many signs coming upon the earth before the wrath of God is poured out, we know by verse 11 that Israel was an example to those "upon whom the ends of the world are come." They are written to us for our learning and instruction.
There is a sense of expectancy in God's people that the end of all things is at hand.
I Corinthians 10:12 says to take heed, lest when we think we are standing, that we do not fall or miss what God is doing. God was not pleased with Israel in the wilderness and He overthrew many of them, I Corinthians 10:5. Paul explains why. We should not lust after evil things as the children of Israel did. This is an example to us.
Israel was also involved in idolatry and worshipping idols. Paul was not talking about bowing down to some little statue standing in the corner.
What was the idolatry in Israel? Paul said they sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play. The word play is the Greek word PAIZO and means "to sport". They rose up to sport. Israel made food, drink and idle time their gods.
Sports have become an idol to many of God's people. The Greeks were more sports minded than any people on earth until the "now generation" of people. Israel had turned to wasting their time. They were no longer engaged in profitable enterprise. They turned to eating and drinking and rising up to play; partaking in idleness, no longer redeeming the time.
Anything that has a ball with a stick, a bat, a club or any other way to get a ball from one place to another, is called sport. Sports have many participants and followers. Sports heroes in Greece were called gods. We still make gods of our sports heroes today. They are treated like God and are paid millions to perform their art.
Paul related that he was writing these as examples to us.
"Neither let us commit fornication as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand." I Corinthians 10:8
Another reason for judgment on God's people in the wilderness was fornication; having sex without marriage. Today the world is sex crazy. Many of God's people are caught up in it. Everything that we see is sex related. Sex is running rampant in this nation and all over the world.
Teenage pregnancy is at an all time high. Also, preteenager pregnancies; nine and ten year old girls. Why? Because sex education is taught in grade school. First, second and third graders are taught sex. This is another sign, or judgment. Nine and ten year old girls are babies. This is an abomination before God.
"Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted and were destroyed of serpents." I Corinthians 10:9
Was Christ in the wilderness with the children of Israel?
The answer is Yes. Christ the Holy Spirit was continually with them. He was the pillar of cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night.
How did Israel tempt Christ? Let's review why the people were destroyed by the serpents. This was given to us as an example.
"And they journeyed from Mount Hor by the way of the Red Sea, to compass the land of Edom: and the soul of the people was much discouraged because of the way." Numbers 21:4
Their journey had become tiresome. They were discouraged. They were not doing what they wanted to do.
Many Christians are walking where Israel walked. They are discouraged in their walk. They do not seem to be getting anywhere. They are not doing what they want to do. Their walk with God has become tiresome. They look back to Egypt. They look back to their old sinful ways even though their old sinful ways had enslaved them. They look back and begin to desire those old worldly things again.
Israel began to speak against God and against Moses. They asked, "Why did you bring us out of Egypt to die?" They began to complain and mumble against God's leadership. Many, today, mumble against God's leadership and where God has them walking.
They began to say that things were not so bad in the world. "Why did you bring us out of Egypt?" We live in a changing world. Everyone who reads the newspaper, watches TV or has their eyes open to what is going on around us, knows we are living in a changing world. This is not the same world we knew a few years ago. People are speaking against God. They are saying, "How could God allow little children to starve to death? How could God allow abortions? How could God allow somebody to be raped or murdered or maimed? How could God allow all these things?"
Yet, the same people who are asking these questions are the ones who have turned their back on God and rejected Him. It is not that God is allowing these things to happen. These have chosen their god. Are they reaping the reward of the god they are serving?
When people do not walk in the light, they reap the fruits of darkness. When they ask, "How could God allow it?", our answer should be, "They are reaping the seed they have sown; darkness." We, who serve God, reap the seed we have sown; light.
Ethiopia is a good example. When they were a godly nation, they exported food. Then they became a Moslem nation. Now there is starvation. This should be an example to us....but it is not. There is much effort being made to feed them, but we should let their god feed them. If their god cannot take care of them, then they should be serving the true God. Missionaries have been in Ethiopia for years and years, but they will not turn from their false gods. Because of this they are starving. They will not serve the God who is in control of the earth.
You may think that this is a hard-hearted attitude. There are over 3 billion people that go to bed hungry every day. There is no way to get food to feed 3 billion people. Only God can meet this need and He will, for those who serve Him.
"At destruction and famine thou shalt laugh: neither shalt thou be afraid of the beasts of the earth." Job 5:22
This is God's provision for His people.
The people are murmuring against God and against those who are trying to get them to follow Christ Jesus. The people murmuring against God are the same people who have heard the gospel message and have turned their faces away.
God brought Israel to the edge of the promise land. They sent in spies. When they returned, they refused to go in and possess the land. Today, when people hear the promises of God, they, too, refuse to lift one finger to obtain it. All they can do is mumble and complain about the condition the world is in.
When Israel turned their back and refused to enter in, approximately three million died in the wilderness. Today, when the gospel is preached, the people refuse to hear. They turn their back on God and fail to enter into His promises. This, we did as a nation. We are not in the shape we are in because we are not a great nation, nor is it because we are lacking anything. It is because we have turned our back upon God as did Israel, our example.
"And the people spake against God, and against Moses, Wherefore have ye brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? for there is no bread, neither is there any water; and our soul loatheth this light bread." Numbers 21:5
God raised up the best He had to lead Israel; the man, Moses. Yet the people murmured against Moses. They said, "You have brought us to this place where there is no bread and no water." This is Spiritual bread and water. The church system has taken away the Spiritual bread and water from God's people and have brought them to a Spiritual dryness that covers the nation.
The terrible famine which Amos spoke of has come upon the land.
"Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord." Amos 8:11
This Spiritual famine is already upon the people and they are crying out,
". . .Our soul loatheth this light bread."
These have been denied the strong meat of the Word. The word light means "insubstantial, lacking strength and firmness, having no foundation." What is being taught God's people today is light bread. It is insubstantial and has no firmness. "If you want to sin, go ahead, but sin with moderation. God will forgive you." There is no strength, no firmness and no foundation. In fact, there is no power or authority. When Jesus, who is the Bread of life, is taught without the power of the Holy Spirit, it becomes light bread and does not fill the hunger that God has put in man's soul for the fullness of Himself.
People are murmuring against God because they have not been taught what God expects of them. They are told, "All you need to do is get saved, get baptized and hang on." They are not taught that God has a work for each of them.
"And the Lord sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died." Numbers 21:6
Twenty three thousand died. Why?
Because they spake against God and His leadership.
Another example Paul used for God's judgment was when God destroyed Korah. Those who murmured at this time were destroyed by the plagues. When Korah rebelled in the wilderness, he was swallowed up by the earth. And because God dealt with rebellion, the people murmured.
"But on the morrow all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, saying, Ye have killed the people of the Lord." Numbers 16:41
They accused Moses and Aaron of killing the people of the Lord. It was God who destroyed those that rose up in rebellion. The earth opened up and swallowed them. There was no way Moses could have accomplished that. But the people murmured against Moses and Aaron saying, "You killed Korah."
"And it came to pass, when the congregation was gathered against Moses and against Aaron, that they looked toward the tabernacle of the congregation: and, behold, the cloud covered it, and the glory of the Lord appeared. And Moses and Aaron came before the tabernacle of the congregation. And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, Get you up from among this congregation, that I may consume them as in a moment. And they fell upon their faces." Numbers 16:42-45
God informed Moses and Aaron to get away from the congregation so that He could consume it. God was tired of their mumbling and moaning and groaning. God sent a plague. Those who died that day were 14,700.
Paul writes that this is an example to us. God's ways are not hidden. I Corinthians 10:11 reveals that all of these things are examples to us, and are written for our instruction and admonition upon whom the ends of the world are come.
God gives example after example so we may be instructed and learn. Does God judge sin and rebellion? We may not witness the ground opening up and swallowing a group of people, but how many have died because they have rebelled and sinned against God?
God is still in control. Many today have cancer because they have violated God's rules in their lives. Eighty-nine percent of the people who have contracted Aids are known homosexuals. And, yet, there are those who will stand up and say that Aids is not a judgment of God. New diseases for which there are no cures, are common place. We live in the most sanitary world that has ever been. Why all the new diseases? Because God is judging sin in people's lives. It is called "pestilence" in the Bible. God says He will pour out pestilence upon them.
"As it was in the days of Noe (Noah)..." Luke 17:26
". . .likewise also as it was in the days of Lot." Luke 17:28
. . .Two examples of God judging sin. God will and must judge sin. Israel is given us as an example that we may know the time in which we live.
It was 400 years from the end of Genesis until we opened the book of Exodus. At the close of Genesis, Joseph had died. Joseph had become the second ruler in all of Egypt. The government was in the hands of a godly man.
Israel was in Goshen. Israel possessed the best land in Egypt. They were herdsmen. Not only did they have their own flocks, but also kept the flocks of Pharaoh. They were free, independent and prosperous. They had freedom to worship their God.
At the beginning of Exodus, four hundred years later, we discover a completely different set of circumstances.
"And the children of Israel were fruitful, and increased abundantly and multiplied and waxed exceeding mighty; and the land was filled with them. Now there arose up a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph." Exodus 1:7-8
In 400 years they did not have just one change in Pharaohs, but many. History teaches that, from the close of Genesis to the beginning of Exodus, Egypt had 14 different Pharaohs.
The change in Egypt at the beginning of Exodus was in the government. The government changed their mind about God and God's people. This is the same change that has taken place in the United States government. Every time the Supreme Court or Congress meet, they legislate against God and His people.
Fear has risen up in Pharaoh's heart because God's people serve another king. Government wants to be our king. Therefore government must bring God's people under their control and power.
"Come on, let us deal wisely with them; lest they multiply, and it come to pass, that, when there falleth out any war, they join also unto our enemies, and fight against us, and so get them up out of the land." Exodus 1:10
Egypt was worried about this mighty force of people who had risen up in their midst. The excuse they used to enslave Israel was, if war came, they would join the enemy. There was no evidence that this would happen, but government needed an excuse and this is the one they chose.
Let us explore how this compares with now and the United States government. The first thing that happened was the change in the thinking of government. When Joseph brought Jacob and Israel into the land of Egypt, how was he treated?
"And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Say unto thy brethren, This do ye; lade
your beasts, and go, get you unto the land of Canaan;
And take your father and your households, and come unto me: and I will give you the good of the land of Egypt, and ye shall eat the fat of the land.
Now thou art commanded, this do ye; take you wagons out of the land of Egypt for your little ones, and for your wives, and bring your father, and come.
Also regard not your stuff; for the good of all the land of Egypt is your's." Genesis 45:17-20
They were given all the good of Egypt. Pharaoh said, "Don't even worry about taking your stuff when you come." Anything you desire in Egypt is yours. You have the best here. Godly people were in control of the government. Joseph was second in command to Pharaoh. Joseph ruled by the fear of God. God had set Joseph over Egypt.
When the United States was formed, it was formed on Christian principles. The fear of God was present. Those in control were godly people. It took 400 years between Genesis and Exodus for Egypt to change its mind about God and God's people. It took the United State less than half that time. To call the United States a Christian nation is a mockery to God and all that He stands for.
"Therefore they did set over them taskmasters to afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh treasure cities, Pithom and Raamses." Exodus 1:11
The people were completely enslaved. How and why did this happen to God's people?
We need to ask, "What were the people of Israel doing at this time?" They were serving the government. They were all working for the government. They were totally dependent on the government for their livelihood. They no longer were depending on God. The treasure cities were armories of fortified cities. The word Pithom means "mouth of a monster". The word Raamses means "thunder is the standard". These were their treasure; their fortification. Government had become a monster in Israel's life and thunder was the standard. Thunder is a loud noise with no power.
Today, government demands more power and authority in our lives. It has large tentacles reaching into every fiber of our lives. We must choose God or government. A man who trusts in God cannot be enslaved. But the person who trusts in government is already a slave. Many may not like to hear this, but this is what the Lord is speaking. God's people need to hear.
"And the Egyptians made the children of Israel to serve with rigour: And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage, in morter, and in brick, and in all manner of service in the field: all their service, wherein they made them serve, was with rigour." Exodus 1:13-14
The word rigour means "hardship". It was not only in the building of the city. Israel had sold themselves into slavery because of their dependence upon the government. It was not only in the making of the brick, but it included every aspect of their lives. In everything they did they were in total bondage to government. It did not matter what their job was, they depended on government. This becomes very clear when we look at all the government programs that are in existence today to enslave God's people.
"And the king of Egypt spake to the Hebrew midwives, of which the name of the one was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah:
And he said, When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the stools; if it be a son, then ye shall kill him: but if it be a daughter, then she shall live." Exodus 1:15-16
It was the midwife's job to deliver babies. These represent the medical profession. It was not Israel's idea to destroy their children. It was the government. The Israelites wanted their children. Children are God's inheritance.
A few years back, when the medical profession was asked to sterilize children from undesirable parents at birth, the medical profession said "No way". It was not their right to take away that which God had given them. The midwives also resisted.
Since that time, a change has taken place in our government. Those on government assistance are being told what size their family can be. In the near future, those on government assistance will be forced to be sterilized. If a pregnancy occurs, then abortion will be automatic. All this will come to pass. Government will take this action and proclaim that it is for the good of the people because of supposed food shortages and the expense on the government to raise the child.
Only the male children of Israel were to be killed. Why only the males? Males carried the bloodline of Israel. Government was trying to eliminate the bloodline. That bloodline is our inheritance in God through Jesus Christ. Not only is this happening in government, but churches are removing the blood from their services also. In the near future, those who will not follow government guidelines in the worship of God will have their churches padlocked by the government. This is already happening. You do not hear of it on the news because the news media is controlled.
There are many churches, already, that have been padlocked by the government. Churches are required to have federal I.D. numbers and without a state number, churches are no longer tax exempt. Churches who have received these numbers are already under the control of the government. Churches that are free from these numbers should remain free. Those who have accepted them should send them back.
In some areas, if there are over four people in your house, you have violated the zoning law. If you are there for a Bible study or a prayer meeting, they can enact that law. This law exists in 40 states.
The government of Egypt only wanted to kill off the bloodline which God had blessed. Today, these represent the true Christians. Government is not interested in organized churches. They know they will follow along with whatever government says. But they want to destroy the true followers of Christ, those who look to God alone and not to government.
I hear so-called Christians say, "You are not supposed to disobey the government."
"But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive." Exodus 1:17
Whenever the government interferes with the worship of God, it is better to obey God than man. These midwives were godly women. They knew the punishment they faced if they committed murder in the eyes of God.
There is no difference between killing a baby when it comes out of the womb, than in killing it in the womb. If we have other ideas, we should check with a Christian doctor and discover when life begins. Life begins at the time of conception. It is the spark of life from God that allows the seed to begin to grow.
All this happened to Israel because they had sold their freedom by having their hand out to the government. The people knew nothing about the order to kill their children. The midwives were told to strangle the child. There have been reported cases that when a baby lived that was supposed to have been aborted, the doctors strangled it. You may think a doctor wouldn't do that. The doctors contract to kill the child, and if the child lives, it is up to the doctor to kill it.
Anytime the government desires us to do something, they start a campaign to brainwash the public into thinking it is for the common good. When the government of Egypt did not receive voluntary compliance from the midwives, they enacted laws.
"And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye shall save alive." Exodus 1:22
When they could not get voluntary compliance from the medical profession, (the midwives) they mandated it by laws.
Now it is the law. The Israelites were to throw their promised seed into the Nile.
When God poured out His judgment on Egypt, He turned that river to blood and made the people drink it. God poisoned the water in Egypt. This was their punishment for making Israel cast their sons into the river. When Manasseh filled Jerusalem with innocent blood, (babies) God spoke that the He would not pardon the shedding of innocent blood. II Kings 24:4
Today, there are all kinds of government programs to enslave: welfare, work fare, ADC, WIC, SSI, GA, giving away food programs. These programs trap and enslave God's people. Egypt was only interested in destroying the bloodline. But today all the world is being entrapped and enslaved.
We must remember, "There ain't no free lunch". Everything you accept from the government, you will pay for. And not only will you pay for it, you will pay for it with interest. That interest cannot be paid with money. It will cost you your freedom.
Moses was born at the time when Pharaoh was killing the babies. Moses also was cast into the Nile. Moses was 80 years old when God sent him to deliver Israel. So, from the time of killing the young, until God delivered Israel from the hand of government was 80 years or 2 generations.
Let's review a few government controls enacted by government in the last 80 years, or since 1910, besides the one mentioned above:
Income Tax Driver's license
Social Security Marriage license
Medicare Hunting license
Fishing license Dog license
In education, children are taught evolution. Prayer and all teaching of the Word of God have been eliminated. We are told that this is our nation and that we are a free people. Yet, we cannot kill a rabbit for food without getting government permission. All these programs have been mandated to enslave and entrap people.
We cannot go to a state or national park without getting permission or paying a fee. These were built with tax money. Yet, now, it is mandated what we can and cannot do. I am writing this as a warning.
"THERE AIN'T NO FREE LUNCH"
When the government comes around with their so-called free programs, stay away from them. Our dependence is on God, not government. Those who partake of these government programs are the daughters of Esau. They have sold their birthright for a pound of butter, a piece of cheese or a jar of honey.
You cannot partake and not be a part. If you are not totally separated, then you are in the system. The loss of Israel's freedom did not come overnight. It took 14 Pharaohs to bring Israel into total slavery. Their parents, their grandparents and their great grandparents allowed, little by little, their freedom to be stripped away until we come to the book of Exodus and Israel had task masters set over them. Egypt had enslaved them totally to where they could demand Israel to throw their sons into the Nile and kill them.
You may say, "They can never do this to us. We have the Bill of Rights and the Constitution." These freedoms, guaranteed under the Bill of Rights and the Constitution, have slowly been stripped away. If we want to remain a free people, we must take a stand. The only place we can stand is on the Word of God. We must be obedient to God, no matter the consequences. It is better to obey God than man.
If we stand, God will deliver His people, just as He did in Egypt. Israel was our example. The children of Israel were fruitful and increased and multiplied abundantly and waxed exceedingly mighty. The land was filled with them. Exodus 1:7
Israel was exceedingly mighty. Was it because they had a great army and could march into Alexandria, the capital city of Egypt? No! They lifted their voices in prayer and cried unto the Lord for deliverance.
God heard the cries of His people. God will never deliver His people through the end of a rifle. There was not one trace of armament in Israel's hand; no cannons, sling shots, bows and arrows, nor one spear. Not one Israelite raised His hand against an Egyptian. There was not one battle fought against the worldly system. It was God who delivered them.
The people of this nation do not realize how far their freedom has been eroded. But we do not look to government for our freedom. We look to God. We need to stay free!
The next time government extends their hand to you with something they call free, say, "No Thank You." Do not sell the freedom you have for a morsel of bread, a little pottage, a piece of cheese or a pound of butter. The paper you sign will be used against you.
We are to pray for our daily bread. Government states that they want to help us feed our family. God does not need any help! God says, "I am able." Everything on this earth is His and man has put a price tag upon it. If you believe there is a free lunch you only deceive yourself.
As Joshua spake to Israel when they entered the promise land,
". . .Choose you this day whom ye will serve." Joshua 24:15
Today we need to choose whom we will serve, God or government. And we always need to remember:
