An Open Letter to the Body of Christ, The Righteousness of God

As we come to the end of the age and see what mankind has become, we ask ourselves, "How much worse can things get?" Yet we know by the Word God has warned:

"But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived." II Timothy 3:13

Evil men and seducers (deceivers) will get worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived which means being led away from the truth. Truly man's thoughts, ideas, and actions have been led away from the truths of God's Word. The prophet Isaiah stated:

"With my soul have I desired thee in the night; yea, with my spirit within me will I seek thee early: for when Thy judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness." Isaiah 26:9

What a condemnation of mankind! It will only be when God's judgments are in the earth that man will learn righteousness. Man has inhabited this earth for six thousand years. And yet he has not learned the righteousness of God. It is going to take God's final judgment before man is going to learn what righteousness is all about. What ever happened to the idea of doing something, just because it was the right thing to do. For man to act today, it must be politically correct, socially acceptable, and financially expedient.

When we speak, do we speak because it is the truth, or do we speak what people want to hear? Lying has become an art form. By the world's mentality, everyone is expected to lie. One ex-president stated bluntly, "Lying is just a part of politics." Hundreds of millions of dollars will be spent in the next eighteen months to elect the latest bunch of self-serving political liars. Past history has proven they do not intend to keep the promises they have made. When we do not keep our promises, then we are liars. If an honest man is elected and if he refuses to go along with the corruption and compromises, he is shoved in a corner, and labeled unproductive. So perhaps we need to ask ourselves as God's people, "What is righteousness?" Righteousness includes integrity, virtue, purity of life, correctness of thinking, feeling, and acting. Integrity means freedom from corrupting influences, honesty, having one's word as their bond. Virtue means strength of character. Purity of life means one has an unblemished character. Righteousness is summed up in correctness of thinking, feeling, and acting in all situations. When we obtain these traits in our life, then we have come into the righteousness of God. God's Word explains that God's judgment will be as it was in the days of Noah:

"And the Lord said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation." Genesis 7:1

Only Noah and his family were saved from the flood. Why? It was because Noah was found to be a righteous man in the sight of God. What are we to learn from this? We need to know that only those who have obtained the righteousness of God will be in God's protected place when His final judgment is poured out. In the last generation we have witnessed the justice system at every level becoming unbelievably corrupt. The prophet Isaiah saw our day clearly:

"And judgment is turned away backward, and justice standeth afar off: for truth is fallen in the street, and equity cannot enter." Isaiah 59:14

Daily, we witness those who are supposed to uphold the law being accused and found guilty of all kinds of crimes. In most cases, they are worse than those they prosecute. If the judges and lawyers were to read the Bible, they might be convicted of the words of Moses:

"And thou shalt take no gift: for the gift blindeth the wise, and perverteth the words of the righteous." Exodus 23:8

We certainly cannot lay bare the facts of what the world has become because the world is doing exactly what we expect the world and worldly people to do. But what of the church, and those who are called by God's name? Paul explains to the church at Rome:

"For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God." Romans 10:3

Peter truly warned God's people when he wrote:

"For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?" I Peter 4:17

We need to ask ourselves with all seriousness, "Has God's judgment begun?" What do you think 9-11 was all about - - - the Tsunami in Asia that killed thousands, Hurricane Katrina and other devastating hurricanes and tornadoes - - - why all the floods and fires? One-fourth of this nation is in a drought that equals the Dust Bowl era. Volcanos erupting, earthquakes in divers places, new diseases appearing, plagues that had been eradicated for generations now appearing again - - - are these not signs of God's judgment? One of the most devastating occurrences is the possible breaking of the food chain because of the problem with the honey bees. The honey bees which we depend upon for the pollination of fruits and vegetables are leaving the hives, not to return. Because of this honey and food shortage loom in the future. Brothers and sisters. Wake up! Because God's judgments are in the earth, and we had better learn righteousness because time is very short before God's final judgment will be poured out.
