Sweet Release

My alabaster box belongs to You;
I have kept it intact far too long.
This container is nothing,
Not even a treasure,
But Your Life held inside is a song.

A sweet song of love awaiting release
To be blown where the wind wills
A melody so sweet of a life-giving breeze
Flowing over life's hollows and hills,

Waiting to come forth from my alabaster box
A song, sweet- smelling as a rose.
If crushed by a blow this container I am holding,
The fragrance of Your life would freely flow.

To be borne on the wind like the wings of a dove,
To the depths and heights of despair Your Spirit goes
Singing songs of release over all that are bound
Songs the angels in heaven only know.

Do I cherish my container above the treasure within?
Do I refuse the hand that would break it?
Or do I cry, "forge a way," for it's Your life that lights the way
So come sing Your sweet song of release

If released to the world what a difference He would make
Sing the song of the redeemed.
