The prophet Isaiah reveals that God has "made bare" His Holy arm; and that all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God. Isaiah 52:10

The arm always signifies strength. God is revealing His strength and power unto His chosen, and He expects His chosen to set a standard. That standard is the Standard of Righteousness.

The "Standard" is spoken of in many ways throughout the Bible.

In the Old Testament, it is called the standard, the banner, an ensign and a token. In the New Testament, the Standard is proclaimed as the Token and the Light.

"Every man of the children of Israel shall pitch by his own standard, with the ensign of their father's house." Numbers 2:2

When Israel camped in the wilderness, God arranged the order in which they were to camp around the tabernacle. Every family was identified, not only by the family standard, but also by the ensign of their father's house. This was how everyone recognized which father's house "physical Israel" belonged to.

When Israel camped in the wilderness, there were 4 main standards the people were to pitch by. These were the standards of Judah, Reuben, Ephraim and Dan. Judah was the standard on the east of the tabernacle, Reuben on the south, Ephraim on the west and Dan on the north, Numbers 2:3, 10, 18 and 25. God established this order. When the tribes moved, they were to travel in this order:

First     -  THE TRIBE OF JUDAH

Judah means "He shall be praised". If we are to be the standard in the land, then we must first learn to praise.

Second - THE TRIBE OF REUBEN

Reuben's name means "see ye a son". God will choose His sons from the people who have learned to praise Him.

Third     - THE TRIBE OF EPHRAIM

Ephraim's name means "double fruitfulness" or "double portion". Those who have learned to praise and have been chosen as sons will receive the double portion outpouring of the Holy Spirit in their lives. This outpouring is not only the cloven tongues baptism of the Holy Spirit which Paul said was the "First Fruits" and the "Earnest of the Spirit", but also the baptism of the dove which Jesus received on the banks of the Jordan. Romans 8:23, II Corinthians 1:22, II Corinthians 5:5 and Ephesians 1:14

Fourth   - THE TRIBE OF DAN

Dan's name means "judgment". Peter said judgment must begin at the house of God, I Peter 4:17. God's judgment is upon the flesh in our lives.

We, as Spiritual Israel, need to set our standard by our Father's ensign. If our Father is God, then the Standard we set will bring glory to Him.

Jesus said the Pharisees were of their father the devil, John 8:44. Today, there are many "Pharisees" giving glory to their father, the devil. The devil has his standards and our God has His standards. Our lives and the standards we live by will tell which father we are glorifying.

If God is our standard, then by His standard we will live our lives. Our house will show the Father's ensign and we will bring glory to His house. But if our standards bring glory to satan, then our standard is set by satan's ensign.

We, the people of praise, are to set a Standard of Righteousness; that of Christ Jesus our Lord. Praise God! Peter related unto us:

"For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow His steps." I Peter 2:21

We are commanded to follow in His footsteps. Jesus said,

"And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto Me." John 12:32

Jesus is the standard which all men will be drawn to. But before all men can be drawn unto Him, He must be lifted up in the lives of those who are called by His name. The standard we are to live by is the standard Jesus left as an example. We must be examples of Him. When this happens, men will be drawn to Jesus through us.

In Numbers 21:8-9, Moses raised up the brass serpent as a standard in the wilderness. This was a standard of healing and life. Anyone who looked upon the fiery serpent lived.

Jesus used this in reference to Himself when He said,

"And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have eternal life." John 3:14-15

By His life, Jesus left this standard of righteousness to us. We are to raise up this standard in our lives. We must stand by the standard of the Father. We must pitch our tent by this standard; and by this standard we must live and move and have our being. Acts 17:28

The example of righteous living Jesus gave us was the standard by which we must live if we are to be pleasing in His sight.

Today, many who are called by His name have put no difference between the Holy and the profane, Ezekiel 22:26. The standard they raise up brings no glory to the Heavenly Father; but, rather, they have set their standard by their father, the devil.

When Jesus walked on the earth He proclaimed Himself to be the Light of the world, John 8:12. Jesus was that standard of Light.

Jesus spoke in Matthew 5:14 that we are to be the light of the earth, a city set on a hill that cannot be hid so all may see our light and be drawn to it. Jesus further stated that we are to

"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in heaven." Matthew 5:16

WHAT STANDARD ARE WE PORTRAYING TO THE WORLD?

Do they see by what standard we live? Can they tell the difference between the way we, who are called by His name, live, or do they see us living like they do? When they see our children, do they look like godly children; or have we allowed our children to look like the ungodly, worldly children with their punk-rock hair cuts and portraying ungodly messages on their t-shirts? Does their language glorify God, or have we allowed our children to set their standard by the world's father, satan?

We are admonished by the Word to have our children under subjection, under our control.

"One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity." I Timothy 3:4

Gravity means "dignity". Gravity is a necessary characteristic of conduct for every Christian.

We are to raise our children in the ways of the Lord, so that when they are old they will not depart from it, Proverbs 22:6. The word for old means "the age of shaving; or marrying age; the teenage years". We are admonished to raise our children from the time they are born, teaching them the ways of God.

"And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:

And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they

shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.

And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates." Deuteronomy 6:6-9

We are to teach God's ways to our children from the time they are born so that when they become teenagers, the standard that has been set in their lives, will be the standard of righteousness. We have God's promise that our children will not depart from that standard. They will draw all men unto that standard. When they establish their own homes, they will live by this same standard.

When we consider how we are to raise our children, we must look at what standards have been set in the home. Are the standards in the home set by the standards of satan or by the Heavenly Father? This is revealed in John 10:10,

"The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly."

WHAT IS THE STANDARD IN THE KITCHEN?

The part of the home where satan is the biggest thief is in the kitchen. Is satan allowed to steal our health and the health of our children? Are the meals that are being prepared nourishing and wholesome or are they quickly prepared, ill-planned, and stripped and robbed of all the vitamins and minerals they once contained? Are the meals supplying the needed nutrients; or do the meals rob the body of its health? Satan is a thief and a robber. Is the standard you set in your kitchen set by the standard of satan or Christ?

WHAT STANDARD IS PORTRAYED IN THE "LIVING" ROOM?

The "living" room is the center of the home. When friends and relatives come, what standard is raised up in the living room. Is the TV the center of attention in your living room? In many homes the TV is on most of the time as a constant interruption of quietness. God speaks to us with a still, small voice. This voice cannot be heard above the noise of the world. It is sad to say, that if God wanted to talk to some Christians today, He would have to wait for a commercial. God, forgive us!

We are told when we pray that we are to enter into our closet and shut the door, Matthew 6:6. This does not necessarily mean a physical closet; but, rather, to enter into a place of quietness, alone with God; to shut out the world that we might hear His voice.

Paul says we are to "pray without ceasing," I Thessalonians 5:17. We cannot do this with all the noise of the world that we have allowed in our homes; especially in our "living" rooms.

This not only includes the television, but the radio, tape recorders, stereos, magazines and books; and all other interruptions. We soon come to the place where we have no time left to spend in the Word or alone in quietness with the Lord.

So many use the excuse: I only listen to Christian TV or the news. But the Word says,

"I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes..." Psalm 101:3

The most wicked thing we allow in the home is the TV. Job also said,

"I have made a covenant with mine eyes..." Job 31:1

We need to make a covenant with our eyes and we need to protect them from viewing the evils of the world. Jesus said,

"The light of the body is the eye..." Matthew 6:22

So do not let your light be darkened. If the standard we set in our living room is by the Heavenly Father, then the covenant we should make with our eyes is not to set any evil thing before them.

WHEN PEOPLE COME TO OUR HOMES OR WALK BY THEM, WHAT KIND OF MUSIC IS COMING FORTH?

What do we allow our children to listen to? By what standard is it being judged?

There are 3 parts to music:
        the words
        the melody
       and the beat.

The words minister to the soul
The melody ministers to the spirit
And the beat ministers to the body.

What is being ministered to by the music that is played in the home? Whether it is rock and roll, punk rock or so called Christian rock, all minister to the flesh. Paul wrote,

"For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other." Galatians 5:17

If the music played, ministers to the flesh, it's contrary to the Spirit. The word contrary is ANTIKEIMAI. ANTI means "against" and KELMAI means "to lie". Contrary, therefore, means to lie against. That which ministers to the flesh is a lie against the Spirit. By what standard is our music set? Who receives the glory in the music that is played in our homes?

BY WHAT STANDARD DO WE SELECT OUR READING MATERIALS?

Are the newspapers and magazines we read set by the standard of the Heavenly Father; or by a standard of smut and sensuality? What are we taking into the windows of our soul? What enters the eyes affects the whole body and our walk with the Lord.

Is it necessary to hide our literature from the children, or are they hiding their literature from us? Even if the children don't find it, we cannot hide it from God.

WHAT STANDARD DO WE SET IN OUR BEDROOMS?

"Marriage is honorable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge." Hebrews 13:4

Do we have godly standards in every room of the house except the bedroom? The writer of Hebrews said, "The marriage bed is to be undefiled." The writer of Hebrews also said that God would judge the whoremonger and the adulterer. Was He speaking about the world? No! He is speaking about the godly marriage bed.

One of the 10 Commandments in the Old Testament says,

"Thou shalt not commit adultery." Exodus 20:14

For those who say that the Old Testament was for "back then"...in the New Testament, we read,

"Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:

But I say unto you (Jesus speaking), That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart." Matthew 5:27-28

Jesus meant it "back then" and He means it all the more today.

Adultery is a "violation of the marriage vows". Webster's Dictionary speaks of physical adultery as having relationships with the opposite sex other than your wife. But Webster further states that adultery can be in the mind. For example, when you, as a child of God, are engaging in the marital relationship and fantasize that you are with someone else.

"And one hath committed abomination with his neighbor's wife..." Ezekiel 22:11

Adultery is an abomination which means "the act or object of loathing (disgust; repulsion); a despicable practice".

Ladies, read Leviticus 20:10,

". . .the adulterer AND the ADULTERESS shall surely be put to death."

Whoremongers are those who have defiled the marriage bed by sexual perversion. God has ordained the proper order for the marital relationship. Anything other than that is perversion. God said He would judge this perversion. According to Webster's New Standard Dictionary, perversion means, "a turning from the true purpose, use, or meaning; corruption".

Many would say God has made us one flesh, and what we do as one flesh is OK in God's sight. We cannot, nor should we condone the acts of homosexuals and lesbians. Yet, when these acts are performed in the marriage bed, they are justified as being OK because God has made them one flesh. It is an abomination in the sight of God no matter who is involved; and especially in the marriage bed by those who are called by His Name.

"If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman (this goes for the ladies, too!) both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them." Leviticus 20:13

"He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be My son.

BUT the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, (which means "morally detestable") and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death." Revelation 21:7-8

"And there shall in no wise enter into it ("it" being the new heaven and new earth, verse 1) any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's Book of Life." Revelation 21:27

What kind of Standard is in your bedroom? Which father is lifted up in the marriage bed?

We need to know that every area of our home is set by godly standards. Christian homes should be the center of light in the community.

WHAT KIND OF LANGUAGE DO YOUR NEIGHBORS HEAR COMING FROM YOUR HOME?

Are the words spoken to each other uplifting, or does your home sound like a battlefield with the battle sergeants, mom and dad, shouting orders to the troops (the children) with the same vulgarity and harshness which is so common in the world today.

Are the children allowed to associate with other children whose standards are set by satan? If we are to raise our Father's standard, then we need to live by the standard He set, not conforming to the standards the world has set for us to live by.

There is an old saying: If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and looks like a duck, then it is a duck. If you walk in the world, talk like the world and look like the world, then you are of your father, the devil. You may claim to be a Christian, but it is going to be hard to convince anyone.

Especially God!!

"The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light." Romans 13:12

WHAT KIND OF STANDARD DO WE RAISE UP ON OUR JOBS?

Are we part of the dirty joke tellers or listeners? We are told to put filthy communication out of our mouths. Colossians 3:8

Do we call in sick because we have sick pay? When we say we are sick when we are not, it is a lie. All liars shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone. Revelation 21:8

Is the time we spend on the job profitable to our employer, or do we just put in our time? When we take money we have not earned, this is stealing.

"Whoso is partner with a thief hateth his own soul." Proverbs 29:24

When we take that which is not ours, which we have not earned, we are in partnership with satan. Satan is a thief. Are you raising up his standard? Are you a gossiper or a talebearer on the job, or do you stop the gossip and talebearing?

". . .Where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth." Proverbs 26:20

Those who have their own businesses; by what standard do you run that business? Are lying and deception acceptable in business dealings? Deceit is the lowest form of lying. For example: Does someone assume you are saying a truth, when in reality it is an untruth? Has lying and deception become acceptable in the name of good business? James tells us:

". . .Let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay." James 5:12

Our business dealings should be in truth above all things.

In everything we do, we must have our standard held high. We must set our standard by the Father we serve. Our actions will speak very loud. Those who set their standard next to the Holy Father receive many promises in God's Word.

"We will rejoice in thy salvation, and in the name of our God we will set up our banners." Psalm 20:5

BY OUR GOD, WE WILL SET OUR STANDARDS AND HE WILL FULFILL ALL OUR PETITIONS.

Jehovah Nissi - God is our banner. His banner over us is love. Song of Solomon 2:4

Isaiah tells us to lift up a banner upon the high mountain. Isaiah 13:2

Jesus said,

". . .A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid." Matthew 5:14

We are the light of the world and we know that God is light. I John 1:5

"But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another..." I John 1:7

We have been called out of darkness into His marvelous light, I Peter 2:9. We are to walk as children of light. Ephesians 5:8

". . .For what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?" II Corinthians 6:14

Paul said,

"The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness and let us put on the armor of light." Romans 13:12

God expects us to lift up His standard wherever we are; at home, on the job, in our businesses and in our every day activities. If we are to stand before Him, our light must be the standard of Light and Righteousness. Jeremiah, the prophet, wrote:

"My bowels, my bowels! I am pained at my very heart; my heart maketh a noise in me; I cannot hold my peace, because thou hast heard, O my soul, the sound of the trumpet, the alarm of war.

Destruction upon destruction is cried; for the whole land is spoiled: suddenly are my tents spoiled, and my curtains in a moment.

How long shall I see the standard, and hear the sound of the trumpet?

"For My people is foolish, they have not known Me; they are sottish children, and they have none understanding: they are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge." Jeremiah 4:19-22

God is looking for His standard in His people. If we are to be that people, we should check by what standard we are camped. We may need to change our standard to be recognized by our Heavenly Father.

HOW DO WE SET THAT STANDARD?

What do we need to do for our Heavenly Father to recognize that change?

We are told in Exodus 17 that when Israel fought with Amalek, Moses said,

". . .I will stand on top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand." Exodus 17:9

Moses went to the top of the hill with God's rod of authority in his hand. When Moses raised his hands, Israel prevailed, but when his hands were down, Israel was defeated.

There came a time when Moses could no longer raise his hands in his own strength. He needed others to stand beside him, to help him in his praise to God. Joshua and Hur were the men to hold up his hands.

Raising our hands shows our praise and worship to God. When our hands hang down, it shows our defeat; our being overcome. We know that the Spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak. Mark 14:38

Our first step is praise unto our Lord and Master. Get in our Prayer closet and seek Him each and every morning before the day begins. Ask Him to show us, daily, the things we need to change in our Standard. Then be willing to change it for the Glory of God. Do not grow weary and allow your hands to hang down. We are not defeated!! Paul wrote,

"In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us." Romans 8:37

As Paul, be willing to die daily to the flesh; to the earthly, undesirable things of satan. Hold up the banner of Christ. If you feel weak and weary, call for the "Joshuas" and "Hurs" of the church to help hold those hands high.

When Moses grew weary, Joshua and Hur got a stone for Moses to sit on, Exodus 17:12. We, as Moses, need to have our praise founded on the rock. We know that Israel prevailed that day because of one man's willingness, with good men by his side, to praise God through the battle.

We are not defeated!! We can make those changes and set a true Standard of righteousness; from the kitchen to the bedroom, from head to toe, in our lives and our children's lives. Joshua said,

"And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell;

BUT AS FOR ME AND MY HOUSE, WE WILL SERVE THE LORD." Joshua 24:15

What Father do you serve? By whose ensign have you set your tent?
