As we press toward the mark of the high calling in God in Christ Jesus, we need to know our goal. By the words of Isaiah, we know:

"And I have put My Words in thy mouth, and I have covered thee in the shadow of Mine hand, that I may plant the heavens, and lay the foundations of the earth, and say unto Zion, Thou art My people." Isaiah 51:16

By the Holy Spirit anointing, Isaiah declared that Zion is God's people. There are two renderings of the word Zion in the Bible. It is pronounced Zion in the Old Testament and as Sion in the New Testament. As we look at the references to Zion in the Bible we find Zion is called:

Zion                    Mount Zion                    The City of Zion

The Holy Hill       The Holy City

Mount Zion is in the city of Jerusalem. There are three areas in the city of Jerusalem. First, the city itself. Next is Mount Moriah where Solomon built his temple. And thirdly, the highest point is Zion which means "sunny heights." Jerusalem, Mount Moriah, and Mount Zion refer to the three areas of the Tabernacle.

Jerusalem             =          The Outer Court

Mount Moriah      =          The Holy Place

Mount Zion          =          The Holy of Holies

The Outer Court is occupied by those who follow their religious orders who live by their precepts and doctrines of men. Jesus quoted Isaiah when He related to the religious order of His day:

"This people draweth nigh unto Me with their mouth, and honoureth Me with their lips; but their heart is far from Me." Matthew 15:8

If we are to become the Zion of God and rise above the empty shouts of those who are satisfied with their Outer Court experience, we also must go beyond those who have put their faith and trust in their fancy edifices and their ceremonial religious services. As Paul related:

"I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." Philippians 3:14

Our high calling in God is Zion. If we are to become Zion, then much is to be learned so we can press toward the mark of God's high calling in our lives.

David was a man after God's own heart. David was not satisfied with capturing Jerusalem, nor did he stop at Mount Moriah. David was not satisfied until he took Mount Zion.

"Nevertheless David took the strong hold of Zion: the same is the city of David." II Samuel 5:7

David built his throne upon Mount Zion. David, the beloved King, ruled over all Israel from Mount Zion. This is important to know, but even more importantly, we need to know who sits on David's throne today:

"He shall be great, and shall be called the son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto Him the throne of his father David." Luke 1:32

The angel spoke to Mary and promised her that her offspring would be given the throne of his father, King David. Jesus is the king who rules over His people, Zion.

There are those who teach the throne of England is the throne of David. These are not aware that Jesus has never given up His throne. . .

False teachers always try to diminish the importance of the true Word of God. An unknown Psalmist prophesied:

"Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion." Psalm 2:6

Christ Jesus is the King that God set upon His holy hill to rule from Zion. As we look again at the prophecy of Isaiah we find . . .

"And I have put My words in thy mouth, and I have covered thee in the shadow of Mine hand, that I may plant the heavens, and lay the foundations of the earth, and say unto Zion, Thou art My people." Isaiah 51:16

The King who rules from Zion has put His Words in our mouths to speak life to all those who will hear. His Words are from the Book of Life, His Holy Bible. Isaiah proclaimed He has also covered us with His hand. Jesus gave us His assurance:

"My Father, which gave them Me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of My Father's hand." John 10:29

Isaiah continues to say that God does this so He can plant (establish) the heavens (the Spiritual realm of God) in His people. He also does this so He can lay the foundation in our earth (our mortal bodies). When our foundations in God is sure, then He can establish the Spiritual realm in His people, Zion. Zion is the highest order in God's realm.

What promises has God made His Holy of Holies saints?

"Awake, awake; put on thy strength, O Zion; put on thy beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city: for henceforth there shall no more come into thee the uncircumcised and the unclean." Isaiah 52:1

God has called His holy people to awake out of their Adam sleep. When God put Adam to sleep and took one of his ribs to create Eve, He did not awaken Adam out of his sleep. The Adam man has continued in this state of sleep until this time. Paul speaks of awaking out of our sleep:

"And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed." Romans 13:11

To the Ephesians Paul admonished:

"Wherefore He saith, Awake thou that sleepest, arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light." Ephesians 5:14

God has called His saints to awake from their state of death. The word death means "destitute of power." Those who are spiritually dead have put their trust in the government, doctors, and the dollar . . . all the things that hold us in bondage to this life.

". . . Awake; Put on thy strength, O Zion; put on thy beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city. . ." Isaiah 52:1a

Isaiah informed God's people to awake and put on their beautiful garments. What are the beautiful garments the Holy City, Mount Zion, the New Jerusalem is to be clothed in? Jesus revealed this mystery to John on the Isle of Patmos:

"Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to Him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and His wife hath made herself ready. And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints." Revelation 19:7-8

We live in the day when we are expecting the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. His wife needs to make herself ready. This process is accomplished by pressing toward the mark of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. We need to know who the wife of the Lamb is:

"And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come higher, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb's wife. And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the Holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God," Revelation 21:9-10

The wife of the Lamb is the great city, New Jerusalem who will descend out of the Spiritual realm of God. The wife is the true church who is making herself ready to rule and reign with Christ for one thousand years.

What are the bride's beautiful garments? She is arrayed in fine linen which is the righteousness of the saints. These are not righteous in their own eyes, but have put on the righteousness of God. These are making themselves ready. How are they doing this? It is by awakening out of their Adam sleep and seeking righteousness. What can these who have put on the righteousness of God expect from the Lord?

"And be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the Lord your God: for He hath given you the former rain moderately, and He will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month." Joel 2:23

The word children was translated "son" 2978 times. So I think we are safe to say the sons of Zion. What can the sons of Zion expect? Zion can expect the Double Portion Outpouring of the Holy Spirit in the first month of the New Day. Joel continues his revelation of the last days:

"And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out My Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out My Spirit.

And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the Lord come.

And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be delivered: for in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the Lord hath said, and in the remnant whom the Lord shall call." Joel 2:28-32

Peter quoted this almost verbatim on the Day of Pentecost. But when Peter got to the last verse, he used different words than Joel did. Peter related:

"And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved." Acts 2:21

The word saved is the Greek word SOZO and means "healed, made whole." As we search for the truth of what Joel spoke for the last days, we discover the word used for delivered. Through a diligent study of the word delivered we find the Hebrew word MATAT is translated 47 times as the word escape, 33 times as the word delivered, and 5 times as the word save. The word delivered means "to slip away, escape, deliver, save, be delivered." The word deliverance is the Hebrew word PLEYTAH and means "escape, and escaped remnant." The word remnant means "survivor, that which is left." Zion is the remnant of God who will escape the wrath of God's final judgment upon His creation man.

Peter proclaimed those who call upon the Lord will be saved. The word saved is the Greek word SOZO and means "to make whole, to heal." What Peter quoted was for his day. What Joel spoke of is God's deliverance for our day. The Psalmist writes:

"For the Lord hath chosen Zion; He hath desired it for His habitation." Psalms 132:13

To understand the prophecy of the Psalmist, we need to look at Paul's writings:

"And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols: For ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people." II Corinthians 6:16

Who is God going to dwell in and walk in? Who are going to be His habitation, His chosen people Zion? To find the answer to these questions, let's look at another Psalmist's writings:

"Remember Thy congregation, which Thou hast purchased of old; the rod of Thine inheritance, which Thou hast redeemed; this Mount Zion, wherein Thou hast dwelt. Psalm 74:2

The word congregation means "assembly or gathering." This refers to the true church. The true church is the rod of His inheritance. The rod is the symbol of authority God has put in the hands of His people.

The redeemed of the Lord are the inhabitants of Mount Zion. The word redeemed means "to pay full price for." Jesus did this when He died on the cross.

"Zion shall be redeemed with judgment, and her converts with righteousness." Isaiah 1:27

The word redeemed means "delivered, ransomed, rescued."

This is the same promise we received from the prophet Joel. By Holy Spirit inspiration we receive the same promise from the pen of Paul:

"And to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come." I Thessalonians 1:10

Zion will be redeemed with judgment. We must remember judgment begins at the house of God, I Peter 4:17. Zion, the chosen ones, will be delivered from the wrath to come.

God has made many promises to His people, Zion. But we need to ask ourselves if we fulfill the words of Jesus:

"Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man." Luke 21:36

Will we be counted worthy to escape with the remnant of Zion? Or does the way we live make us destined for the wrath of God? All those who are destined to be part of the Zion Company will be cleansed, purified, and made holy in the sight of God. Isaiah declared:

"And it shall come to pass, that he that is left in Zion, and he that remaineth in Jerusalem, shall be called holy, even every one that is written among the living in Jerusalem:

When the Lord shall have washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion, and shall have purged the blood of Jerusalem from the midst thereof by the spirit of judgment, and by the spirit of burning.

And the Lord will create upon every dwelling place of Mount Zion, and upon her assemblies, a cloud and smoke by day, and the shining of a flaming fire by night: for upon all the glory shall be a defence." Isaiah 4:3-5

All those written among the living will be called holy. Who are those who are written among the living? These are those who are written in the Book of Life.

All those who are written among the living can expect to be cleansed. How are we washed? It is by the water of the Word. All these must be purged, made clean, and made ready to inhabit the Kingdom and become rulers and reigners with Christ. Malachi recorded:

"But who may abide the day of His coming? And who shall stand when He appeareth? For He is like a refiner's fire, and like fullers' soap. And He shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and He shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness." Malachi 3:2-3

Who will be prepared to stand in the day of His coming? Isaiah spoke about the spirit of judgment and the spirit of burning. Who will be able to stand in the coming judgment and burning? We must allow the Holy Spirit cleansing fire to purge us if we are to become His Mount Zion. If we stand still for His purifying fire, then we can become part of Zion. Isaiah continued:

"And the Lord will create upon every dwelling place of Mount Zion, and upon her assemblies, a cloud and smoke by day, and the shining of a flaming fire by night: for upon all the glory shall be a defence." Isaiah 4:5

If we allow this cleansing process, now, God will protects us, and make a way of escape in the coming day of His wrath. He will protect us as He did Israel in the wilderness - - - with the cloud to keep us cool in the day and the flaming fire by night to keep us warm. We, too, can come into this dwelling place in Mount Zion with our Redeemer. Isaiah informs us:

"The sons also of them that afflicted thee shall come bending unto thee; and all they that despised thee shall bow themselves down at the soles of thy feet; and they shall call thee, The city of the Lord, the Zion of the Holy One of Israel." Isaiah 60:14

All those who hate and afflicted us, are going to bow before us and call us the City of the Lord, the Zion of God and the Holy One of Israel.

The book of Lamentations informs us of the sons of Zion also:

"The precious sons of Zion, comparable to fine gold, how are they esteemed as earthen pitchers, the work of the hands of the potter!" Lamentations 4:2

Are you willing to be worked on God's potter's wheel? Those who make up God's Holy City, Zion, are comparable to fine gold. How is gold purified? It is through the fire, where all dross is purged away. Jeremiah asks, "How are these esteemed as earthen pitchers, (vessels)?" In his Epistle to the Corinthians, Paul writes:

"For God who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us." II Corinthians 4:6-7

The light of God that came into being on the day of creation is the Holy Spirit. This light shines in our hearts. Why? It is to give us the knowledge of the glory of God that shone in the face of Jesus?

We have this treasure (the light of the Holy Spirit) in our earthen vessels. This is the power we possess, and it is not of ourselves. The prophet Isaiah declared:

"Therefore thus saith the Lord God, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste." Isaiah 28:16

The foundation stone is Jesus Christ. When we look at this same Scripture in the New Testament we learn . . .

"As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on Him shall not be ashamed." Romans 9:33

The cornerstone (Jesus Christ) has become the stone of stumbling (Christ Jesus, the risen glorified Christ, the Holy Spirit) and a rock of offence. The stumbling stone is the Holy Spirit.

When the religious system is confronted about their life and walk in the Holy Spirit, they become offended, and their general response is "I am saved." They stumble in their walk with God because they believe they are right with God because they follow the precepts and doctrines of their religious systems. In his second letter to Timothy, Paul states the religious system . . .

"Have a form of godliness, but deny the power thereof: from such turn away." II Timothy 3:5

Their form religion denys the power of God which is the Holy Spirit. Paul admonishes us to turn away. The phrase turn away means "to shun or avoid." Paul compared the religious system to ancient Israel:

"But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness. Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone;" Romans 9:31-32

The religious system refuses to be guided by the Holy Spirit because they have faith in their religion instead of faith in Christ (the Holy Spirit). An unknown Psalmist declares:

"The stone which the builders refused is become the head of the corner." Psalm 118:22

The stone these have refused has become the head of the corner. The foundation stone, Jesus Christ, has become the head stone, Christ Jesus. See "Christ Jesus" by G. Kirkpatrick

Peter also declared this:

"Unto you therefore which believe He is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner." I Peter 2:7

The Headstone is Christ Jesus, the Holy Spirit. In his letter to the Ephesians, Paul makes this very clear:

"But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into Him in all things, which is the head, even Christ." Ephesians 4:15

We are to grow up into the Headstone, Christ Jesus. This is the stone the builders of their own kingdoms have rejected.

So who is Zion and who makes up the Holy City? Paul relates:

"But ye are come unto Mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels, to the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men mad perfect, " Hebrews 12:22-23

The general assembly, the gathering of those who will make up the Holy City are the church of the firstborn, the predestined who are written in the Book of Life.

These are just men made perfect. These just men are the righteous men who have been made perfect, mature and whole, ready to enter the Holy of Holies. These are those as Paul declared have finished their course.

These will be God's innumerable company of angels who will minister during the coming day of wrath. Obadiah relates:

"But upon Mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions." Obadiah 1:17

There is going to be great deliverance coming from God's Zion company. Obadiah continues:

"And saviours shall come up on Mount Zion to judge the Mount of Esau; and the Kingdom shall be the Lord's. Obadiah 1:21

Who are the saviours who shall appear on Mount Zion? These are those who will do the greater works and minister to those who must endure the wrath.

Jesus also revealed this great Zion Company to John on the Isle of Patmos:

"And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our lord, and of His Christ; and He shall reign for ever and ever." Revelation 11:15

This great Zion Company will be those who have been prepared through the Holy Spirit's cleansing fire and have become His Christ, His anointed in the earth to do the greater works.

Again Isaiah relates:

"And I have put My words in thy mouth, and I have covered thee in the shadow of Mine hand, that I may plant the heavens, and lay the foundations of the earth, and say unto Zion, Thou art My people." Isaiah 51:16

Now is the time to allow Holy Spirit's cleansing fire to purge us so that we can become God's useable earthen vessels in the coming day of wrath. God has a holy remnant He is preparing. You can become Mount Zion, the Holy City of God.
